Its like what Jeremy Clarkson says: "You buy these cars not with your head, but with your heart."

If I were to buy a car with my head, then there's very little doubt that I'll end up with a Collora or Camry, like what my parents is doing for their next car.

Yep,

And did he not also say, "You'll never understand what passion is all about unless you own an Alfa?"

...which in essence is what Mr Eps & DOOF are alluding to?

Like...

1) Understanding the nuances of every characteristic about your 'Line

2) Perseverence through all the sickness and health that your 'Line suffers

3) Comfort in times of distress by not just rectifying an issue or glitch, but giving the 'Line a polish afterwards so that she's even better than before

4) Giving the 'Line honour and respect

5) Thankfulness to the 'Line after she gives you that exhilaration after a texi or cruise and then bringing you home

Yep, sorta like a marriage really!

Tony?

:happy::blink:

ever since i was in secondary school, i always wanted an r31. my cousin had a white s3 sillo rb30et, inspiration if you will.. i then learnt about the different series (both aus and jpn), and fell in love with series 3 ti. ive always been into my fords (my fav is the xe fairmont ghia, 351 clevo of course ), but the skyline has since then, been in the back of my mind. to date, ive owned 4 r31s, and more recently my r33, and still have my first series 3 ti. i dont think ill ever get rid of it!

I find my car love extends to more than just one car... all of different types, sizes, makes and continents...

my first audi was of course my first car, unreliable, slow... but it was red, loud and had a big system... thought nothing was better.....

after always loving R32s i finally bought one.. stock pretty much... over 3+years modified it in every way possible... every minute every cent was thrown at it... loved it to bits... it was the perfect car.. although becoming unreliable, old, and getting bored with it i sold it... i felt that it was limiting my movements, didnt want to drive it long distances incase something broke (and the fuel pump died on the way back from newy once)

thought id step back into an audi.. so the S4 was next... so happy with this car in stock form i only exhausted and tinted it... it was fast.. had traction, cup holders, leather recaros.. twin turbos.. this was the best car ive owned and almost the best car ive ever driven... i LOVE this car.. and thought id never sell it... although being once a week used and spending so much time on the Gixxer it wasnt worth keeping anymore...

the bike has remained interesting for me so far.. i can always improve my riding skills, its fast, loud and fun.. ive got friends with turbo quattro A3s that i can borrow when i have an urge for some audi time

my point being, yeah you might love your ceffy... but there are better, nicer, as unique cars out there... that you can move onto and spread your love to aswell...

dont get tied up in one car... experience as many as you can

I've owned an driven many cars, but to date am struggling to find something i "Enjoy" more than Skyline's.

It all started with a 33 GTS25T back when people police where stopping me to actually check out the car, and a Ford fan nearly died of a heart attack when he saw the "GT" badges on the side and thought he was the first to see the new falcon GT :-).. Yep it happened.

Had that for a few years and sold it. Sadly went to a Commodore SS, btu that only lasted a few months.

From there, I actually bought a 1978 C210. Not a single person new why i loved that car. It was old, beaten up but had more characted than the SS ever could.

Recentl I've gone through 2 V35's and now the 32 GTR. As the V35's where quite rare here i was on the US forums a fair bit, and it absolutely floored me how amazed some of them where when i sold my 2005 V for a 92 GTR. They couldn't get past the fact that its 15yo. And all commented on the "dated" interior.

Of course its dated, its 15 years old!!!

Anyway, I've lost my point by now, but all i can say is that everyday, i get home stop and take a look at the GT-R, go inside, and then comeback for another look.

I love the fact that the battery dies every other week, cause i don't drive it.

I love the fact that everyone else thinks its to loud, to bumpy to uncomfortable.

I love the fact that I detail bits of it every week and still find new areas of 15 year old build up to clean!!

well wouldn't you stuff a manual in there like a well endowed black man stuffing his 'thang' into a cringing white girl?

I like import cars because they are different to the norm and generally have huge technical advancements over anything locally delivered. I've only been in a few but even a mates MZ20 Soarer which had sat under a tree for a year still drove and rode like a decent car, not a pos.

I'd part with mine for the right amount, but I'd get another import for sure.

I hope you are looking after my 32 brah.

In any case the tread starter wants to buy a Honduh Jizz.

Nuff said.

w00t - I saved you from your own stupidity...except now its not for sale...I was having idea's for a second there to be honest.

Good write up man.

Nasty habbit having a HPV, pooring soo much money into them, if nothing else, the fun of driving it is well worth it. I'm not phased that I've spent $5'000+ on my build, and only half way to having her barely back on the road, or that its in a billion pieces, its still my baby and I'd take a bullet for it and shoot back at the f**kers...well...realistically I'd use it as cover, but I still love it..dunno why.

Methinks I am a prime candidate for this obsession :(

I haven't even driven my skyline ONCE and I've owned it for a year and a half! In that time I've painted it......five times (myself) because each time I wasn't happy with the shade/colour/tone etc. So each time I stripped her back down and redid the job! I'm settled on the colour now....almost......I think?!

Would I do this for another car? No. I do it for my car because to me the R32 is the perfect picture of what Japanese cars should be. It's only a GTS-T, not even a GTR but it brings a smile to my face every time I sit in the empty shell that it still is. I'll drive it oneday.....I hope :D

Spoken like a true tragic :(

Inside your shell, can't you hear the roar of the enigine?

Inside your shell, can you smell the racing fuel?

Inside your shell, can you see the intensity of your pit crew raising sweat to get you back on the track within 20 sec?

And inside your shell, you can taste the fear thru the visors of your competitors' helmets can you not?

:D

Heh! I can pretend I can hear the roar of the engine!! In about five, maybe ten years I shall be roaming the streets....in the meantime, fear the shell!

    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
