Hi All,

I have a 1997 skyline GTSt with a bit of a shudder. The shudder occurs at low speed on full lock, ie: when I am reversing out of a car park (and turning at the same time) or doing a Uturn.

I dont have an "A-LSD" light on my dash, so I assume that I don't have an Active LSD which was an option on GTSts.

I have read that LSDs can give shuddering if there is the wrong kind of fluid in them, although I think that this diagnosis applies to mechnical LSDs.

From my internet research I wasnt very successful in finding a problem description which related to Viscous LSDs specifically.

It is highly likely that my car has not had the usual maintenance done on it. However, since the Viscous LSD unit is sealed, what would my diagnostic / maintenance steps be?

Would it help to replace the diff oil in this case, or am I up for a job to replace the LSD altogether.. or are there other explanations other than the LSD being at fault ?

Thanks in advance for the advice..

sounds like you could have a mechanical LSD..its not hard to remove the whole diff if you want to check.

or its easy enough to change out the oil and put a thicker oil in with some additives to try and stop the noise.

worked for me.!

Old topic but I've been busting my brains trying to figure why my car does this too!! Have just realized that full locks, reverse parallel parking etc is fine whenthe car is cold, but after driving for a while tight turns are hard and sounds like the rear wheels re dragging across the road. Could the rear diff have the wrong oil ?? Any info onthis would be great as I wAnt to fix it asap!
