The process can be quick and painless if you have someone do it for you or painful and slow and potentially console-destroying if you do it yourself.

Unlocking a hdd is the process whereby you get an aftermarket hdd to work with your console.

try www.1tronic.com for info

go to www.xbox-scene.com

there's modchip methods and non modchip methods (much more fun)

both ways you can put a 120gig HDD, and now there's a method which lets you put a 180gig on too. Only problem with putting a larger HDD is that it may overheat, so u gotta make sure its suitable... htey have a table on the site which u can use to see if u'rs will be compatible.

an XBOX hdd has a boot sector that's modified to let the xbox know that its a proprietory HDD, when you put a normal HDD in it will know cos it has no modified boot secotr (unlocked), so you gotta lock it by changing the bootsector with a program you can download for free after hooking up the HDD to your PC motherboard

Easy to do yourself. never soldered before and I did it. Funn thing is, there's and empty slot on the motherboard just waiting for the chip....that's great.....in the old Xbox' you had to 'solder suck' the solder out before installing the chip,..In the later version, the solder was already gone....Making it even easier to chip...thanks MSoft
