well i agree with you. but 25k for a gtst is TO much.

when i bought my R33 GTR there was another GTR in the paper for 45,000.

i checked it out. test drove it , didnt like it , had about 60k On the clock. the user said its lagit clock since he showed me papers of serivces and dates etc . but then i i test drove my gtr, had less km's engine was more smooth and newer.

it had about 26k on the clock which was lagit i had papers showing from japan etc etc. and that saved me well ... 15 grand lets say. but you couldve got a r32 gtr for your 25K .thats my best bet.

but anyway. i payed 31k for a gtr. you payed 25 for a gtst. big differnce bro.

What state your in also matters. Remember Sydney and Melb are bigger markets.

But guys this thread is not about degrading skylines.

Its about putting some common sense into the deal.

If someone advertises there car for too high or low a figure, it impacts on all of us because it devalues our cars.

And remember value is determined by what an able buyer is prepared to pay a willing seller.

Not what a tight arse is prepared to pay a Fool.

In the last 2 years or so I have sold 6 or 7 R32 GTR's ranging from excellent condition ( Simmo's and Micko's ) , both on this forum to let's say average cond ( GT500 ) , also on this forum.

You get what you pay for and there is no such thing as a one little lady owner , only 2K per year GTR in Japan for $10,000.

The average price ( without giving too much away ) has been around the $29K mark with the rougher ones about $25K.

What I mean by rough is Grade 3.5 or minor RA or the engine is breathing( which a LOT do but most owners won't face the reality of it).

The amount of guys who blindly believe these * only 30K on the clock* 10-12 or more years old cars for super low prices direct from Japan are dreaming.

If the car was that good , the domestic market will buy it.

The best bargains are to be found here in Aust when guys are trying to unload a vehicle they no longer want/can afford.

And mines-datsun , you have the full service history , including the Jap books , the auction sheet for this GTR to prove it's 26K validity??

Logic would tell you that a vehicle of that mileage , if it has the corresponding grade 4 upwards sheet would have fetched a premium in Japan so some one is copping a BIG loss or maybe not giving the full story...

ATM I have a 93 GTR for sale with an engine that breathes ( I run catch cans on them) here in the West for $24,500 and have interest but no one with finance/insurance.

There is usually always a reason why people will be prepared to sell the car for under the market price easily. Sometimes it's legit ( divorce, major financial trauma , death ) but usually it's because they have discovered why the vehicle was cheap when THEY bought it...

Cheers

Ken

Like RedlineGTR said "You get what you pay for" its a simple theory.

Basically why would someone sell their car for 31k when the market value is around the 40+.

so either the car is smashed and repaired or something is dodegy.

Or the seller maybe stuck for cash and wants to sell for any price

:bs!:

Seriously - you have NO idea what skylines are worth do you.

As has been said, you get what you pay for. Anyone who believes that an R33 GTR should be commonly had for low 30's even for a 1995 model is misguided. I have seen them all before. You only need to look at the price the cars cost from japan, an absolute shit heap R33 GTR with over 100k on the clock at low to mid $30's straight out of Japan is regarded as a bargain.

Im not denying that you see some GTR's particularly in Melbourne being sold stupidly cheap, but there is ALWAYS a reason. Granted some buyers pickup bargains due to vehicle owners being desperate to sell - thats the luck of the draw.

And as for your statement about anything over $25k for a GTST being "TO" much - what complete garbage.

To All,

I must agree you do get what you pay for,you can have two skylines identical parked beside ea other and they are varstly different to drive and a discerning look at all the nooks and cranies(NOT JUST THE SHINY BITS !) will usually give a fair indication of the cars condition. But lets face it a car is only worth what the next person is willing to pay,(and it doesnt matter what you and i think but the person making the purchase!!!)

If you think some of these others payed too much try this: x-mass 1998 we payed $47,000 for a 1996 s2 GTS-T with only K20 on the clock,so you can our dismay at watching the used prices fall! But hey thats the price you pay for being one of the first to own one of these great cars(and ive heard of a few more being sold just after we purchased ours that went for in excess of$50+.

Its all relative i suppose, because our car when my new motor goes in, in the new year will owe us about $100k (incl purchase price)--- and you all say i could have bought a gtr-v spec for that money, but why have something that others can have when i can have our car that no one else can!!!

regards,

SKYLINE...

I cant agree more with Ken... the cheaper the car, nine times out of ten, theres a reason for it. I picked up my car at the start of September for $29k (1992 R32 GTR with a few mods, Apexi FC, AVC-R, Z32 AFM's, rare Enkei wheels etc) which most would consider to be a rip off now (since GTR's are selling for $25k). But the thing that made me pay the extra cash for this car is I went to the trouble to have it checked over, and for an 11 year old car, it was near immaculate. Compression was at 160 across all cylinders, I could not find one burn mark on the interior, and it had just been professionally tuned. I actually believe the $29K I payed for mine was cheap, considering the condition it was in.

But at the end of the day, a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. And theres a great saying I love, you pay peanuts and you get monkeys... meaning, you pay nothing for a car, then theres going to be something wrong with it.

You definately get what you pay for. I paid $23k for my gtst over two years ago now and after getting it people were telling me I could have gotten one much cheaper than that, you were ripped. But after parking mine beside theirs, and getting inside theirs, they are two vastly different cars. Those cheaper cars have definately had a hard life, and while they have been constantly in and out of the mechanics, I have only had one problem with mine and that was a leaking crank case seal. Not bad for over 2yrs, 55000km, incl, willowbank, Queensland Raceway and the skidpan days. Definately worth every cent. I just hope my next purchase is as good.

Just on this, when I was in Canberra about a month ago, I saw a '94 GTR with 41000km on it for $25,000 @ Evo..didn't ask to look under the bonnet but exterior looked fairly clean..

And I picked up a '96 GTST from Japan for Y920,000 FOB - bit on the high side but I wanted a nice one. Gonna see my baby for the first time tomorrow, soo excited!

Not this year, but I bought my 97 GTST for 44,000 in 2000. Assuming a 40% depreciation in 3 years, its current value should be around 26,000 now. Seems about right to me.

Now, 2 other things for those who think they have bought super cheap bargains:

1) You cannot trust klm on cars from Japan. There is no way a car has done 26000klm in 8 years (3000klm per year) and then is sold at a bargain price. Do you think you are smarter than all the professional auction buyers in japan?

2) Under the old compliance scheme there were *heaps* of dodgy cars bought in. Badly damaged, written off, cut n shut, you name it. In particular damaged cars are cheap at auction due to comparably higher panel beating labour prices in jp.

It would seem everyone is in the market for R33s, noone rates the R32.

I am one of the minority that if possible would prefer to buy a well modified example. My R31 GTSX i bought modified, my R32 GTSt i bought std and after 3 years of ownership is it now as modified/fast as my old R31, and owes me a whole lot more money.

Funny thing is i thought with the import laws being what they are today, it would make selling my R32 easier, in that you can no longer bring in modded examples, especially as modded as mine, or find anyone able to compliance them.

If you shop around without the rose coloured glasses you will quickly see why cars even of the same year model vary so much in price. Not meaning to offend any owners, but nothing looks sadder then a R32/R33 with faded interior plastics/trim, worn/cracking rubbers, faded paint sitting at std ride height with 200SX rims. My experience is thats what you get in the lower price range.

You get what you pay for, be mindful you dont pay for what you end up getting!

If you know enough about the car your buying and are a good judge of character then its often good to look at private sales.

Often people need money and want to sell their car to get back some of what they've payed, not a dealership adding their amount onto it.

Other benefit of private sales is the previous owner; if a true skyline liker, will have fixed all the little things that often come with a dealership bought car, saving you money anyway.

I beleive warranties are all Bullshit, theres so much fineprint and had so many friends with warranties that didnt do what there supposed to.

Like i said, if you know the car your looking at well, and can get it checked out, then go private sale.

I did, saved heaps :) No problems that havent been caused by me eheh :)

Knore i totally agree with you, IF it was seriously up to me, i would import one from japan myself instead of paying extra to a dealer, but like i said there are other factors that made me buy from a dealer e.g. My parents don't like the idea of paying for something they cannot see at first, and since most of it is there money, why would i want to go against that?

AND MINES_DATSUN, yes your right i could have afforded a R32 GTR, but the thing is, i personally like the R33 look more then the R32. Yes the GTR would rip my car apart in pieces, but because my car is newer then the R32, and because of my own personal preference, i rather buy a GtS-t R33 for $25k then an GTr R32 for that price.

Its all up to personal preference, and there may be many people here who may have bought the R32 GTr instead of the GTS-t, but like many of the people who have stated here, the market value of a 2nd hand car is what the buyer is willing and able to pay for a car, and what the seller is willing and able to sell for a car.

Oh one last thing, Many people keep telling me that i could have bought a heavily modified skyline for my $25k that i bought for my near stock skyline, but i myself wanted to buy a stock skyline was because i wanted the pleasure of slowly modifying my car my OWN way. So please don't go around judging the price of what other people paid for their cars, coz you were wrong, THERE IS a reason although unknown to you why people purchase a car for that particular price

When i first bought it i had the thought in mind that i paid a bit too much, but after driving it, i think all the hard work i do to earn $$ and putting it on the car, its all worth it once i sit in the drivers seat and take it for a spin. I'm sure many other people here feel the same.

Sorry for the long post once again

cheers

Guilty

Please dont think i was having a shot, not at all. Like i said im part of the minority.

If you plan on doing a few mods then i think you are way ahead buying a 25k GTST then a 25K GTR. Running costs are much cheaper, and doing club days they are very durable, and thankfully cheaper if something does go astray.

GTRs may offer better performance on paper, but i cant recall too many std or GTRs with light mods similar to my GTST gapping me at tracks. So the gap to a GTST isnt that wide, typically it will still come down to drivers as the GTR doesnt offer that much more performance.

Either way drive the wheels off the thing and enjoy it.

Oh one more thing, when i was looking for my skyline a month ago, it seemed that generally the skylines interstate were more cheaper then the ones in Sydney.?

Ive read that freight/port costs are lower when going to Brisbane or Melbourne, could be part of the reason....bloody Bob Carr.
