Hey

Long story short I got a GReddy Copy forward facing plenum for basically nothing and am getting to the stage where I can put it on. Before anyone says anything im not putting it on for an extra 2000kw or anything, I just like the fact that it will clean up the engine bay and make a few things much easier to do. The plenum has been checked out and it looks all good.

Anyway.. Basically just after advice on a few things. I've looked through the thread about installing one and its pretty helpful.

- Cooler pipes - I have cheapish chinese cooler pipes that came with my cooler so I've decided I'm just gonna get new stainless ones made for it. I was going to run it through the hole where my current cooler pipe runs (sorta underneath the washer bottle on the side of the guard, the usual spot) but I think i might just run it straight through where the washer bottle currently is. Does anyone have any suggestions for this and if anyone is willing to tell me how much they paid for coole pipes to a FMIC then to the turbo with front facing plenum, keeping in mind i will have to have a pipe for the aac valve and BOV off the main cooler pipes.

- Washer Bottle - Ill be getting rid of my washer bottle for the cooler pipes probably (if i dont go through the current hole). Where is a good place to get a replacement with the two outlets for both washer motors? Have a mate with the same plenum and similar setup to what i want to run but he claims his washer bottle is out of a series 2 R33 (mine being a series 1) but Im not sure if thats where its from, his is mounted between the bumper and front part of chassis just before the radiator

- Just any other general advice or suggestions would be appreciated... I have a basic idea of costs and stuff and think I have thought of everything (have got plenty of boost line, got the kit with the plenum with all the adapters bolts etc and will be getting new intake manifold gaskets etc from nissan) so just any friendly advice that anyone has for me would be much appreciated

Thaks Guys

Hey dude,

I recently put on one of the vulture motorsport plenums. If you have done a bit of work on cars before you should have no big problems. It is a fiddly job, some of the bolts are in a f**ked spot and a few clips and stuff gave me a bit of curry but in the end it wasn't to bad.

I re-used the manifold gasket that came off the old plenum. Just put gasket goo on it and it's sweet as. Wouldn't hurt to fit a new gasket though.

With the plenum I have it has an adaptor to run the stock throttle body. I did this. With the adaptor the throttle body sits way forward, so I could only run a 90 degree silicone bend straight off the throttle body. I pulled the washer bottle out and cut a hole through where it used to sit. I wanted to keep the bottle in for legal reasons so I took it the the plastic welders. Got it cut in half, keeping the half that has the motors and got the side closed up. It now sits back in the stock position with hardly any f**king around

There are alot of dodgy cheap ones out there but some aren't to bad for the price. I paid $550? from memory and it came with a throttle body adaptor and everything you need to do the swap. Bolted on nicely and had no problems

Thanks for the tips guys.

The plenum itself is pretty good, its not a cheap ebay one, its from autobarn. And i know its still not genuine but ive had it checked by more then one person and the facing for the runners to bolt onto the head is nice and flat and the injector holes are nice and flat for a good seal. Ive seen alot worse anyway.... And the only reason im putting it on is basically i got it plus cash for the rims that came off my car. I want to neaten up the engine bay, not make 700hp so im not to concerned about performance gains

M3ld: Thanks for that pic mate thats pretty much exactally the setup I have ready with the stock TB adapter. Never though about geting the stock washer bottle altered but doesnt look to bad, Thanks mate

wlspn: Dont think we have Bursons around here.... never heard of it so not quite sure, might try repco or somewhere, but i think im only after one gasket so if i have to get it from nissan i dont mind forking out a couple of bucks.

PM-R33: Ive seen your setup around, its nice, Think steven has told me about your car once or twice to, Im quite a fan of it

So thanks guys, I've done a fair bit of work on cars so im not to bad with everything. Dad's decided he's going to buy a tig welder so between the two of us i think we are just going to make the cooler pipes here, save having to get it somewhere to get it done and should save a couple of bucks to

Any more tips, I'm more then happy to hear them

Thanks again

dont listen to some of the ppl who are saying stay away from cheaper products, they either havent even tried before or just going off wat other idiots say on here..

im running same plenum have now for 50,000kms 350rwhp 20psi daily.. never had a drama. so good luck with it..

yeh man, im not worried, got a mate with a 25 powered r32 with 300rwkw+ with the same plenum as mine. Any future plans of mine will be at the most jus touching that power, but probably a bit under. I Love genuine Greddys and pazmaman's, but Id probably have never got one. Was just lucky that this one kinda fell in my lap lol

i have tried and i am slowing getting rid of every cheap shit part on my car...

horses for courses i guess... i just dont want cheap shit anymore....you do things two too many times.

its all about personal standrads too...some people dont appreciate fine food...and well thats fine too. but i like quality...thats all.

best of luck with the plenum install...

u do know that the standard plenum can hold like a f**k load of power right???

i personally wouldnt buy cheap shit for my car i made the mistake once by buying a saber cooler kit and it was a big mistake

Easy to access spark plugs

dropped intake temps from 75degrees at TB to 35degrees at TB

shorter cooler piping.

from what i could tell if anything it gained a bit of lagg due to the plenum being bigger then stock.

over all looks 10x better then the horrible factory inlet manifold.

just say when i install one of these, what sort of intercooler would i need? like which type would i tell them? because the pipes come diffrent.. or would it have to be customed made?

yeh you have to get the pipe on the plenum side custom made.

    • I think you're really missing the point. The spec is just the minimum spec that the fuel has to meet. The additive packages can, and do, go above that minimum if the fuel brand feels they need/want to. And so you get BP Ultimate or Shell Ultra (or whatever they call it) making promises to clean your engine better than the standard stuff....simply because they do actually put better additive packages in there. They do not waste special sauce on the plebian fuel if they can avoid it. I didn't say "energy density". I just said "density". That's right, the specific gravity (if you want to use a really shit old imperial description for mass per unit volume). The density being higher indicates a number of things, from reduces oxygen content, to increased numbers of double bonds or cyclic components. That then just happens to flow on to the calorific value on a volume basis being correspondingly higher. The calorific value on a mass basis barely changes, because almost all hydrocarbon materials have a very similar CV per kg. But whatever - the end result is that you do get a bit more energy per litre, which helps to offset some of the sting of the massive price bump over 91. I can go you one better than "I used to work at a fuel station". I had uni lecturers who worked at the Pt Stanvac refinery (at the time they were lecturing, as industry specialist lecturers) who were quite candid about the business. And granted, that was 30+ years ago, and you might note that I have stated above that I think the industry has since collected together near the bottom (quite like ISPs, when you think about it). Oh, did I mention that I am quite literally a combustion engineer? I'm designing (well, actually, trying to avoid designing and trying to make the junior engineer do it) a heavy fuel oil firing system for a cement plant in fricking Iraq, this week. Last week it was natural gas fired this-that. The week before it was LPG fired anode furnaces for a copper smelter (well, the burners for them, not the actual furnaces, which are just big dumb steel). I'm kinda all over fuels.
    • Well my freshly rebuilt RB25DET Neo went bang 1000kms in, completely fried big end bearing in cylinder 1 so bad my engine seized. No knocking or oil pressure issue prior to this happening, all happened within less than a second. Had Nitto oil pump, 8L baffled sump, head drain, oil restrictors, the lot put in to prevent me spinning a bearing like i did to need the rebuild. Mechanic that looked after the works has no idea what caused it. Reckoned it may have been bearing clearance wrong in cylinder 1 we have no idea. Machinist who did the work reckoned it was something on the mechanic. Anyway thats between them, i had no part in it, just paid the money Curiosity question, does the oil system on RB’s go sump > oil pump > filter > around engine? If so, if you had a leak on an oil filter relocation plate, say sump > oil pump > filter > LEAK > around engine would this cause a low oil pressure reading if the sensors was before the filter?   TIA
