Getting A Compression & Leak Down Test.need A Heads Up?

Recommended Posts

Guys,

My car is starting to blow smoke under acceleration (oil) and am about to get the compression checked but i need to know what is & should the compression (psi)be, so I dont get shafted by the mechanic?

What colour is the smoke? Oil is white. To much fuel is black. Compression really depends on the quality of the test gauge being used as I can bet nobody has ever calibrated one. If all cylinders on the tester are within 5-10 psi of each other it shouldn't be to bad for an older motor. If you can change plugs in your car you can do the test yourself its easy.

Well guys,

I have had the compression test and its about 160psi +/- 5 PSI within each cylinder and all appears well with the motor. Now does this mean its the turbo that is making the smoke? is there some sort of seal inside the turbo?

So where abouts is the best place in Melb to get this done, Preferably in the south eastern suburbs and any idea what sort of cost would be involved?
