Hey guys not really sure how to explain or ask this but here goes;

The car SOMETIMES im not sure how to make the car do it again but it will randomly every now and then some drives it wont some drives it will.. in tiptronic mode going from 2nd gear to 3rd gear when i shift it will have a massive squeak noise i believe to come from the back.. i hav argued with mates taht its back right but some say back left - either way its from the back we can agree on this -

The sound started off as a little squeak... its really high pitched and now its getting louder to the point where over my exhaust, sound system and general conversation i can hear it and it gets alot of disgusted loooks from others on the sidewalk etc when and if it does it..

The car will also do it sometimes when im in high rev's in 2nd and coming to a stop at lights as the rev's creep down it will give a sligh jolt and hey presto theres the high pitchd squeak again..

one day i was at lights and decided to stick her in neutral and give it a little rev.. and it did the high pitch squeak again..

as i said it randomly does it some days it wont do it at all some days it just wont stop... and i dont know how to make it do it.. i hope this is making some sense does anyone know what it could be its really bugging meeee!!!!

:happy::):):down::down:

are you sure its not a belt slipping? i cant think of anything in the bac that might make such a noise, and sometimes its easy for noises to sound like they are coming from places they arent, one time i was sure that my ac compressor had threw its bearings, cos of a loud scraping noise (also got some disgusted looks!) but turned out to be a rear brake pad stuck on and wearing thru the pad

i recently had a car with a slipping drive belt and it would squeal in almost the exact same situations u have mentioned

i suggest you try a can of that sticky belt spray stuff just to quickly and cheaply eliminate or target the problem of a slipping belt

and if it squeals when reved while sitting still in neutral i dont see how any squealing noise can come from the rear of the car, has anyone had a listen while outside the car??

nah mate no one has listened from outside the car because i dont know how to make it do it again lol :happy:

for example today i was driving with mates it did 3 massive ones in a row and kept squeaking away a few more times... stopped parked the car for a bit had some lunch and a chat and drove it again all arvo and it did it once again only so its pretty inconsistent..

and yeah u may be right its probably not from the back but it surely does seem like it.. as it gives a slight jolt and the squeak when going from 2nd to 3rd as i said.. i dunno but yeah man thanks ill check out what you said and hopefully that shed's some light

cheers

yeah man...im not to familiar with the tiptronic, mines a manual...and my other car that had the slipping belt was a manual, and would squeal often when changing gears up or down due to the changing loads and speeds of the motor versus the rest of the car

...but usually with the belts its pretty clear that its coming from the front, i just cant think of anything else it could be, does the 'jolt' pull the car foraward or let it slow backward?? cos i would attribute the 'jolt' to be the belt catching and griping and thus puling the car forward again or slipping and letting it backward

like i said i dont know anything about the tiptronic but i cant think of any parts of it that would squeal or squeak, after all, isnt it just gears controled by electrical signals from the paddel shiters?

and yeah its definatley coming from under the rear wheels around the suspension area

ok so ive put it down to when i have my climate control on (aircon or heater etc) then the squeak is very loud even if i just rev it in neutral or park also when im driving... when i have climate control off it hasnt done it lately??

Have you changed your timing belt n idler tensioner pulleys before it happened? When I done mine I got a high pitch screech sound in higher revs n even when revving in neutral, but only when I had climate control on. I took it back n they just adjusted a couple of belts n problem gone. Just when you mentioned climate control it sounded similar to the issue I had.

i get this thing here and there to o.o exactly what you said Nathan. higher pitch squealing sound when the revs goes up, especially above 4rpm... but i also noticed it usually only happens to me at night time? and i never use the climate control... is my thing related or.... lol

well i tested the theory out tonight with mates.. and its definatley only happening when i hav the air con fan switched on.. with it off it doesnt do the squeak but when its on i can sit ther rev it up and at about 4500 - 5000 rpm it will squeak from teh front...

It's the belt slipping as the aircon compressor kicks in. Mine used to do it at higher revs but it can still happen at lower revs- you just may not hear it. Ask a mechanic to tighten the belt if required and it should all be sweet. Alternatively the belt may be old and need to be replaced.

    • Does that price include the rack time to straighten the frame and body and replacement of parts and paint, as well as the noise and emmisions testing  The last engineering certificate I had done, albeit about 15 years ago, was around $1000 for a few inspections and the certificate
    • 😂 thanks guys. The diagram i had did not have the breather on it at all. Much appreciated.
    • Geez, engineers fees have definitely gone up. Mine back 2007 cost me all of $300. Mind you, I had to go back to him a few times to get him to write the correct things on the report after he'd inspected it. Things like wrong exhaust size, wrong wheel sizes, etc etc.
    • Can we see a scan of the original quote? The problem with engineers (and by this, I mean, all engineers across all engineering industries) is that there are "engineers" and there are "engineers" (you'll have to imagine the two different vocal emphases on those two versions of the same word. Engineering is a mindset - your farm kid who spent his life rebuilding the tractor will likely make a good engineer. The farm kid who spent his life taking photos of butterflies.. perhaps not. But on top of that mindset, the modern engineer has to learn how to write so that there is absolutely no way of being misunderstood. Proposals/budget estimates/quotations are one place where this is absolutely vital. You have to delineate your scope of supply with extremely hard boundaries, and anywhere where there is any possibility of not being able to have such a hard boundary, you need to write language that will cover you from scope creep, cost overruns, the inevitable interference of the client or their "engineer", etc etc. Now, if your clients are the BHPs and the Rio Tintos of the world, and similar, then you get good at this. If you are an automotive engineer, pitching work to the great unwashed masses, your skills in this area might not be well developed, because you're only dealing with knuckle draggers trying to get a big block legal in a Torana. And when I say "might not"....I'd suggest there's a better than even chance that any such skills might be completely absent. So, we might be able to look at your quote and see what the opportunities are for rebuttal.
