OK, I've inhereted these and they are a little on the harsh side for my family orientated GTR. Current ride quality makes the wife feel queezy. I'm not up for spending big money on this car so looking for a cheap fix. I've also got some KYB 'coilovers' from my other car which could be used as an alternative but they will need some work as they were harsh too. I don't want to entirely ruin the handling either.

I guess I can get new softer springs and or the damping can be played with (possibly with the SS.....?)

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Damper can be played with, and it will take some harshness from the ride up. If that's not enough though then it's new springs and revalving.

From memory adjustment is clockwise - higher, anti - lower.

damper adjust on the ss certainly makes a difference.

take it up to full hard (clockwise till it stops), and then count backwards (anti-clockwise) from there. there is 16 levels of adjustment. even though it goes further, dont go past 16.

also, it looks like your height adjust collars are as low as they'll go. that might not be helping your cause. mine have a good inch or 2 of thread remaining on the front, and rear, on r33.

Yep, I've just done that and I'll see how it goes on the way home. Fronts are nice and accessible, but the rears less so. Do you know if the adjustment is there for the rears and it is done the same way? Yeah, the car is pretty low and I'm actually thinking of raising it up a bit as driveways (well mine actually) are a drama. Looks cool though.....

Feel a bit silly I didn't clock the adjustment on them, but great to know the 16 click bit of info.

yes rears adjust the same as fronts. in the r33, you need to remove the back seat > parcel shelf to get to them. real pain in the ass. lol

r32 can be accessed thru the boot? i think.

Yeah, I can get to them through the boot. Good to hear the adjustment is the same. Real easy. Just a thumb and fore-finger required! God bless the opposing thumb.

But it rides like crap and handles even worse. Did you buy it to look at it or drive it? It's OK to say "look at it", that's a perfectly acceptable answer. But the truth you can't say both, in a GTR you just can't have super low ride height at the same time as decent ride and good handling.

Yep, agreed, I've got all of that. It's just the way it came and I'm slowly setting it up to how I like it.

go full clock wise then count back 12clicks. that is Tein's reccomended starting spot for SS from a translated manual.

Dont go past the 16 clicks even though there are 32 clicks, not good for the shock.

go stiffer at the front for the extra weight

so maybe 12-14 clicks back from full clockwise at the rear. and 8 clicks back for the fronts. play around with it till you're happy.

I'll leave the rear at 16 (CBF taking out the boot lining again) and set the front to 10 and see how it goes. My drive to work is not going to yield many opportunities to see how she handles, but plenty of railway lines and pot holes....

I found the best way to setup the tein or any coilovers. its to start by turning the coilovers to full soft both the f & r. take the car for a drive and see how this feels. if its a daily this should be good enough. if it still seems to bumpy/harsh work out your spring rate. if it is high drop it to something like 4/5

Wel I can tell you that full soft is very comfortable but also very crap in the handling stakes. I picked a couple of choice corners this morning and the tyres were howling and the body roll was terrible, so much so that it induced oversteer at relatively modest speeds. I'll have to find a sweet spot than this! Time to start fiddling.

Thread revival. Just wondering on these puppies if the shock top adjustment controls both bump and rebound, or just bump, or just rebound? My assumption was that it was only rebound that was controlled but I could be wrong. I guess thinking about it, if the ride gets softer with anticlockwise adjustment then perhaps it does bump, or both.

If this can be confirmed that'd be great.
