all good as its a big single.

quick mockup seems it will fit nicly.

yeah the guy i bought it of said it pulled 26inhg on a well sealed motor lol.. il have to get one of those vac regulators..

ps. do ross do a balancer thats got the ps drive aswell as a oil plump drive? on there site it says it removes the ps part when using the pump drive.

Im not aware of ross doing a balancer with power steer and Oil pump mandrel. We machined up a custom mandrel and machined the balancer to suit when I was still using conventional power steering.

You could use the AC part of the pulley and re gear the PS pump to suit.

I set up a Petersen dry sump drive mandrel today on an ATI rb26 balancer with the P/S drive. No real hassle, just had to machine up a spacer to bring the drive gear past the face of the P/S pulley and machine some thrust washers for each side of the drive gear as the pump gear didn't have any. I should have taken some photos, I'll see if the guy I did it for can snap a few before it goes back in.

i have a peterson 4 stage on the side of my rb28, it came as a kit from performance wholesale and bolted strait on where the aircon was via billet ali mount 1 head 2 sump scavengethe kit came with all the spacers required to fit the ati balancer will try post up pics as its still on the stand

Is an electric power steering pump a shit idea? I think 9krpm was investigating doing it.

We and a few others racing GTR's have been using electric steering pumps for some time.

They work very well and free up the engine bay greatly.

I had a Tilton pump on my old GTR and will be using one again on the new car, it had adjustable pressure regulator and internal bypass valves.

i tried a search on electric power steering pumps for aftermarket applications and nothing comes up, only mentions of using oem pump from the mr2, etc. Tilton searches bring up no mention either.

Any chance on more details on where to buy the electric pumps and prices, work involved for a track only gtr?

we use the merc A class elec pumps, they are 2200 dollars, three wire hook up and are about 3.75" across and stand maybe 12-13" high. If you want i can get the part number for you

No idea how the boys did theirs.

There is bugger all info around as no one really does it.

Basicly I fabricated up a resiviour and feed it into the pump. From there the high pressure line runs out and into the rack. The return from the rack runs through a cooler then back into the resiviour

Nothing overly complicated about it.

Power is supplied from an ECU triggered output via a 60 amp relay. (yes they draw alot of current)

The pump can be wired to ignition or to an ECU PWN output so that the steering only turns on when the engine is running.

We mounted the pump inside the Front bumper rio where it is realativly safe and out of the way.

Tilton may not do them anymore as mine were second hand when I purchased them 12 months ago. There are a few Holdens getting around that use them now, and the porka's as well.

Price wise from memory mine were roughly $450 each second hand.

If jay the new owner of my GTR has the time perhaps he can post up some photos of the set-up. It worked faultlessly the entire time I was using it and the steering was so much nicer to use.

I found a bmw electric steering pump and tank in one unit for sale on some racing bmw parts shop....think it was about $1350 aus. I imagine they could work with anything else if wired up correctly, not just for a bmw...plus the quality looks good.

Nice job dave...looks good.

The only thing we've done, which has come about from experience is to machine up two discs that bolt through the pump drive pulley with lips that extend about 5mm more then the pulley itself to stop the belt from jumping off. Also helps if the belt is slightly misaligned...

We havent noticed any wear on the sides of the belt from running these discs with some light rubbing.

would running a thick rubber belt with teeth for the external oil pump affective sound like a mini version of running a supercharger out of the bonnet on a big block?

the sound of a blower belt is unreal!

actually i shouldn't play this game as you already know where all my sht is! lol.

it's all a pretty neat fit as it's a pretty bloody big pump! still clears engine mount fine etc. should be a winner.

no, same belt as the timing belt. but id imagine the older gilmer style (flat teeth) would make some noise.

oh wait. superchager belts have a flat tensioner wheel running over the teath side, not the back of the belt. hence the noise.

next issue is the crank trigger... not using the cas for rpm as its to unstable. just need a 7" trigger disc. btw, how many teath should it have? (counting the missing tooth.) any multiple of 6?
