Just a quick question, i know others are keen to find out about this also..

Ive got an R32 Drift Car, its not heavily modded or anything but it has a few aftermarket parts etc.. its covered in sponsorship graphics and has the interior 3/4 the way stripped

It IS still licenced for the road but i was wondering if id be able to get a permit to drive it to get work done on it, to avoid trouble with the police, yellow sticker etc etc..

Could i tell the licencing center its un registered to obtain a permit? or would they be able to give me one even tho the car remains licenced?

Anyone know anything about this let me know, bcoz i need work done on friday and im unable to tow the car, and its not a heck of a drive either.. i really wanna keep my car rego'd!!

lol! what your asking doesn't make sense.

if the car is rego you can drive it, but then run the risk of getting a yellow.

other option is to hand in your plates. apply for B-Rego which is a race class rego that allows you to drive to and from events and workshops BUT the car can not be driven anytime and if your caught driving you lose your b-rego

i'm not 100% sure but i think permits, b-rego will be class as the normal 3rd party for personally injury. with regards to property, i would say you would need to look a specialize insurer that does race cars

Hey, if your car is still registered then you can drive it anywhere. Its only when the cops pull u over or you don't pay rego on it that its illegal o drive it on road.

So just drive it nicely on the road to the events or workshops and it will be fine. Then once u have yellow/no-rego then inquire about the permits

Dont risk it with no plates - super dumb idea.

B-Class if you still can, some guys on DriftWA use temporary movement permits (you can argue there is a workshop right next to Barbagallo, but I'm sure cops will argue the misuse of those permits), or just fork out and tow it - motor sport isnt cheap.

No point having a track car registered, it'll get stickered either way.

this is not 100% correct.

my mate has a track spec ae86 full cage, strip out inside fix back seats. no front indicators.

he was pulled over coming back from the drift practice cop ask him about his car explain it was his track car just keeps the rego as its easier to move it events etc and has a daily. cop could see he was being honest and said no problem just take it straight home then. and he was on his way.

why have a track car rego, because its cheaper to drive to events then tow the car

Why do you not just get modification permits for everything you've done?

If borneos freaking mad-dog ceffy could still be driven around happily, why can't yours?

It's not hard to comply with regulations dude. the stuff you can't comply with - legal with mod permits. suspension, engine mods, body mods, all that shit.

all well and good for your mate. not necessarily gonna happen in the same manner as this dude.

Yeah, with enough money, anything can be legally registered.

Borneo did have rego on his 31, but it was never on the road because it copped soo much attention. So even with nothing to worry about, you're still going to be pulling over frequently, so just buy a crumpledore with a towball and a trailer.

all well and good for your mate. not necessarily gonna happen in the same manner as this dude.

don't drive like a tool, only use the car to go to events or workshop and you limit the risk. why waste money making the car street legal if you only use it at the track waste of time and money, just take the risk and if/when the day comes that you do get a yellow hand in the plates, buy a trailer or look at b-rego

also my point about my mate was just because you drive it on the street doesn't mean you will get yellow etc

    • yeah first and reverse is where you will find clutch release issues (whether hydraulic or mechanical) because the difference in revs required is the highest there; particularly changing down from 2nd to 1st when still moving. To be clearer though, it is possible that the clutch release bearing is the wrong height. This is less likely than a hydraulic issue but it is not unheard of when you are mixing and matching

    • Hi all, Restoring r33 series 1 rb25det. All the heater hoses were on their way out, have replaced them and put it all back together. After testing I noticed a small leak from behind the head on the actual metal water line to the turbo when cars warm. I tried running a longer hose over it but it kept leaking...   I am about to take the (stock) manifold off again馃様 to change the water line does any one have any lines they recommend? I was looking at Aeroflow Turbo Oil & Water Line Set but not sure what everyone else recommends. Car is completely stock but want to upgrade turbo eventually. it looks like ill have to disconnect a lot just to replace these lines so if there's anything else recommended to do please let me know. Thank you in advance!
    • From memory, on the R33 GTSt at least, while everyone says "It's not adjustable", I found when I changed clutches in mine, it just needed a small adjustment on the rod length. But be very wary here, as you could end up trying to push the pushrod in the master too far, or blowing out the slave.   Most likely though, if the master/slave isn't bypassing internally or leaking out, then the throw out is the wrong height compared to the fingers on the clutch, so when it moves to disengage the clutch, it isn't 100% disengaged. You can check part of this out too by jacking the car up, having the engine running, put your foot on the clutch and try to engage 1st gear. If it goes in pretty easy (Compared to the ground) and/or the wheels start turning a fair bit and it takes a bit too much brake pedal to bring them back to a stop, this is likely the issue.  I'm not sure if you can adjust the height of the forks etc in these though, it's been that long since I've touched any RB gearbox.
