Rb25 Variable Cam Timing - How Does It Work?

Seeing as there is no general tech section I thought I would put it in here, as you guys would get the most use out of it...

I want to know how the variable cam timing system on the RB25's works. Ie is it switched or continuously variable? If it is continuously variable, does it have a position sensor (Like EGR systems do) or does the computer just guess as to where it is? And is it pulse-width modulated or does it use a stepper motor?

If I know how these things work, I can probably make them user adjustable for mere cents...

VVT is operated via the solenoid in the front of the head, intake side. The ECU switches it ON at around 1500 rpm, and OFF again at around 4500 rpm.

So it's not infinitely variable then. That kind of sucks. The NEO system must be variable though...

can you feel it? like i got a power fc in mine, how do i know if its activated or not?

Standard RB25 is on/off, neo if variable.

you can adjust when it comes on and off with a power FC or other aftermarket computers if it supports it

Are you sure the neo is variable? Where is the cam angle sensor?
