Import Duty On Passenger Vehicles To Drop

Hi Guys,

great news for all you fellas looking to import a car next year - from the 01/01/2010 import duty on passenger vehicles is dropping from 10% to 5%

I'm seeking clarification on whether this applies from the date the car is shipped or the date the car arrives, as currently the dutiable value is based on the exchange rate on the date the car shipped and I have a sneaky suspicion they'll make this the rule for applying the new duty too.

But anyway, I'm stoked with the new rule as it can save hundreds, even thousands of dollars on the cost of importing a car because not only the duty drops, but also the GST will be lower as you are charged GST on the import duty too (yes, a tax on a tax - ridiculous I know!)
