a chassis dent? my ****ing son of rajab. VB-VP commodores left the factory with chassis dents!

How does this make the car defectable!? maybe your tyres will wear unevenly by a minute amount?

how big a dent are we talking here?

I have a mate who bought his car in QLD and was using it on the remaining QLD reg in SA, and he got DEFECTED!

Its absolutely shocking, im seriously afraid to take my car out after spending every cent i have on it just to be taken off the road. Id rather have it undefected and locked in the garage not using it!

The idea by 4door is awesome! whenever you get done, just a trip to the shed to return to std and away you go!

N/A you are so right about the give and take. Over hear in Syd i see cars on their bellys all the time, but they dont seem to get done unless they are acting up. Thats how it should be.

man if thats the case dean .. i think u should sue regengy .. i mean they inspect all cars that are complianced right?? and then if you bought ur car and they didn't find it the first time and now they find it ... dont' they have some sort of duty of care to find it the first time?? that pisses me off ... but good luck anyways ... i know your car is in good shape and running well ... there is nothing wrong with it ... besides both ur side mirrors with its lack of red paint :D

hiep, Regency dont have any duty of care that can be legally upheld, and they cannot be sued (well they can but you will never win a class act against them) due to a little cause in the road traffic act 1961, its para 163K that states:

Limitation of liability

163K. No person who does any act in pursuance or purported pursuance of this Part, or omits to exercise any power conferred under this Part, is under any civil or criminal liability in respect of that act or omission if the person acted, or omitted to act, in good faith and with reasonable care.

The 'Part' reffered to above is Part 4, which deals with defect notices, vehicle inspections and the 'inspection authority' or regency.

by the way Hiep, there is a Nismo square type R33 grill second hand at D1 if you are still chasing one, and its silver:)

The problem is is that even thou the damage is definately from japan, i cannot prove this, as they assume i must of hit somethin which i havent. Anyway if they detected this the first time i would be speakin to geoff and tellin him how unhappy i am about this.

Anyway it sucks big time. I agree on what sly said that we should only get pulled over if we are definately doin somethin wrong, which in this case i was innocent. Thats why its really annoyed me this time. Now im paranoid the same shit will happen again. Im gonna put a silencer on the exhaust and keep it high, but the cops can still defect me even thou my car will be street legal. So basically im goin to make all precautions so that cops cant get me, but the truth is they can basically do what they like.

Man that really really sucks Dean.. i know how you feel... PM me.. we got a whole shed full of stock bits for R33 (gtrs).. what else do you need to get through?

And I know this is really really dodgey.. but when i went to regency about my exhaust i didn't want to take it off cos it was so beautifully welded.. so i shoved a tonne of steel wool in there.. loved it.. they let is pass...

I borrowed a cat from diggy... also..

He is open mon, tue, wed AFAIK, then shut at least through to monday the next week, but not certain.

Dean, the answer is buy a shit box VN commodore with a fully sik V8, dont do any suspension work, just cane the living hell out of it cos they are sooooo much safer than those bloody rice burner skylines - you'll never get defected, even if you get done for dangerous driving or doing 160 in a 60 zone. Surely you should know by now how much safer aussie built V8s are?

  • 3 weeks later...

If you dont want to buy a V8, then how about, obeying the road rules, removing ugly stickers, deleting noisy blow off valve, and fitting sensible exhaust tip. That would be a good start...as its encases all the things the cops look for...and would improve the general look and perception of these cars on the road no end.

Or just move to Qld, where they have rules that allow cars to be modified, or NSW, or just about anywhere else.

And leave the narrow mindedness that plagues SA.

Someone I know, as posted in another thread, when through a defect station with no emissions gear, 2 holes in the exhaust, engine and power steering fluid leaks (which were obvious) and a loose rear vision mirror.

After looking under the bonnet the cop told her to fix the mirror, and have a nice evening. She noted around 10 imports pulled over at the same time, most she could see were receiving defect notices.

Why did she get away - 22 year old commodore.

My wife was told by a cop that my car is a target, he also explained (when questioned) that he would always pull over any imports because he knew he could get a defect.

I really do believe that you have no idea how bad the situation is, or you just couldnt be bothered doing anything about it.

I note you talk of legal action, and representing the magazine means you have to be careful.

This didnt stop Brandy B Rhuba writing a scathing report on the new RAWS scheme, published in issue number 38 of HPI - why is it so hard to just do a comparison of different state regulations? And maybe point out discrepencies between federal and state laws?

that would be alot more helpful than just saying remove the stickers (how many stickers do you have dean?) or remove the bov (something that is quite legal in other states), and as for exhaust tip? How exactly does a large exhaust tip make a car illegal?

My problem (and dare I say it most modified car owners) is that it seems owning a modifying a car is severly frowned upon, with laws in place that make it almost impossibe to do legally - This is a bloody joke, last time I checked this was supposed to be a free country, where you could do what you wanted as long as it didnt adversely effect anyone else. Most other states seem to recognise this, but not the beaurocracy that is calling the shots with Tpt SA and SAPOL.

SAPOL wont even investigate if your car is broken into, and stereo stolen, money etc, they wont bother taking the time to investigate house breakins, but they have all the resources in the world to set up defect stations and then target modified cars, and spend all the time in the world 'randomly' (yeah right) pulling cars over to inspect them.

If you own a modified car it appears you are a bigger threat to the community than theives and vandals FFS - and your answer is 'remove the stickers' - there is something very very wrong here.

Another thing is, how does such restrictive laws encourage people to make sure mods are carried out safely and legally? they dont, all they do is piss people off. At the end of the day, it just means people are going to do what they want, and not even try an comply with rules that cannot be complied with. This is a huge service to the community isnt it?

But then again, bovs scare old people - far more than say, the average harley davidson's exhaust would - yeah right.

Sorry for the long post, but as most people here would realise by now, regency and the rules here in SA really, really piss me off.

Steve, I see your passion for this subject. Dont get me wrong Im not saying exhaust tips or stickers are illegal. Not at all. They do however catch the coppers attention, and turn their heads. It gives their otherwise simple minds something to focus on.

To blatantly state that Commodores dont attract defects? Well, thats probably being a little bit too emotional about the subject. They get them as well. Maybe not in the same numbers, BUT per capita, you will find there are more stock 'Dores out there vs GTS-ts.

I agree with your statement on freedoms, and our constitutional rights, but try telling that to the family I saw cut out of their car and hospitalised last week, in a horrific accident, where a pin dick in a 'Dorifto 180' lost the thing and head-on whopped these poor bastards.

Sure there are Commodores and Falcons that are involved in horror accidents, but the import thing, its a new enemy to the coppers, with a whole bunch of kids now trying to 'drift' on public roads. It was something that didnt occur a couple of years ago, which is one reason the Police are being so vigilant now. While there is a whole subculture supporting and encouraging this activity, including shops, press, etc. dont expect the situation to change any time soon.

As for SAPOL? Their policies regarding break ins and attendance have been bordering on a joke for a long time now. Theres not much revenue in that type of activity, and unfortunately the SAPD is an accountable, profit generating concern, with quotas and budgets to fill.

To fill you in on the topic of legal action Steve - Writing about RAWS or SEVS is fine. In fact writing on just about anything is fine, until you involve, or even mention, the Police Force. They have a bunch of government empowered Nazis known as the Police Media Unit which have far reaching powers. They can force a journalist to divulge their sources, charge them with contempt, all sorts of things. I have no wish to tangle with them anytime soon.

Thats seriously farked up. I think you guys win the award for most farked regulations in the country, and i thought Adelaide was a *relaxed* place. Its just stupid, everything! it sounds.

While VIC was fairly strict, people got away with it, and generally if you acted nice to cop and weren't too over the top they let you go. I only ever got one defect notice (and it was my ex-gf p-plater driving!), even though the cops did note a few things on other times - they let me go because i wasn't acting like a dick, in a typical "laps" street, or doing anything wrong. Which is the way it should be.

Glad to hear your car is finally outta jail EnricoPalazzo, after regency having burned a big hole in your pocket!!

Perhaps you can get a mid muffler (not resonator) installed between your cat and rear cannon. I have one. It really does help with the noise compared to cars with just a cat n cannon.

either way martin skyline drivers still cops shit because of a small minority. and id just like to add because people r young dosent mean theyre drift heads im too scared to take my car out these days because of the stereotyping that is going on in this puny lil state.

The facts are the cops in all the other states have got bigger issues on there hands eg ganglands, drug rings, shootings and have more important things to worrie about than import drivers.

But get dont take me wrong cops shouldnt tolerate dickeds in rice trying to drift in peak hour traffic, if people r that dumb they deserve to have there cars taken from them, but when cops follow people home from movies and pull them over to look for a bov (which is in no way performance enhancing or a danger to other road users) and defects them and it takes them a month to get outa regency and big $$$, its not really fair.

all it balls down too guys is that weve just got to keep on driving responsibly and getting stung due to others idiotic choices!

Is the defect/import situation really THAT bad relative to other states?? I have heard lots of horror story for NSW, Vic and WA guys.

Steve comments like "And leave the narrow mindedness that plagues SA..." really pisses me off!
