R35 Did You Know?

hi all, just thougt i'd post a "did you know" section on the R35. Alot of silly facts that people dont know about really "raise the eyebrow"....

1- the R-35 GTR is simply called the Nissan GT-R. unlike any other model, it doesnt come in GTS or GTS-T model

2- the R35 GT-R isn't actually called a "Skyline"

3- After a track day, in order to keep the warranty, the owner MUST REPLACE the engine oil, gearbox AND diff fluids, which isnt cheap (a few $thousand)

4- if you turn off the "traction control" option on your GT-R, it is automatically logged at Nissan HQ in Japan, and your warranty is automatically void.

5- it DOESNT feature the "retarded" HICAS system like previous models

6- the new model code is actually CBA-R35

7- a damaged transmission, out of warranty, costs almost $20,000US

8- the designers of "Gran Turismo" designed the HUD on the GT-R's Dashboard

9- the 180km/h speed limiter is only released when entering a Nissan certified racetrack

Schooools out for Summer

Schools out for Ever

Probably a good idea to check if your audience is a bunch of window lickers without access to the internet before you come onto a forum assuming you are the one and only source of knowledge on there....

I'll help you out with the facts that are just plain wrong because you aren't the only person that believes everything they read on the internet.

3- After a track day, in order to keep the warranty, the owner MUST REPLACE the engine oil, gearbox AND diff fluids, which isnt cheap (a few $thousand)

This is not exactly true. The only reason you have to replace fluids is if they have gone above 140 degs C - or if the total number of temperature logs of the cars fluids is above 120 degs for more than 5% of the fluids life. If neither of those happen you don't have to change anything.

4- if you turn off the "traction control" option on your GT-R, it is automatically logged at Nissan HQ in Japan, and your warranty is automatically void.

This is rubbish. Turning the VDC off voids warranty for the time that it is off but thats it and there is no magic secret squirrel signal sent to Nissan HQ. It's just logged in the cars "black box" which can be downloaded at a Nissan dealership.

9- the 180km/h speed limiter is only released when entering a Nissan certified racetrack

This is only true in Japan. The rest of the world doesn't have this feature and here in Oz they can run over 180km/hr whenever they feel like it. (Police may argue from time to time however)

The rest looks ok but I'm suprised you didn't mention anything about the LC. Surely you have some amazingly acurate LC facts?

Come on guys give the lad a break....I actually got a laugh out of it. I felt like we were just transported back to 2008 when everyone speculated about everything from transmission durability through to the "Fact" that this new GTR was "Untunable" due to Nissan Japan locking the car down so much.

I could add to these "facts" with little gems like:

Did you know that Nissan Australia is so tight that:

1) ADM Cars did not get GPS

2) We had to wait months to finally get the floor mats

3) We did not get the card input for our Bose Sound Systems

4) We did not get voice activation for anything

These little facts are ones that you would really have to search for.

Cheers

And hoping for everyone that responded to "die a terrible terrible death" for "belittling" you, puts you on a much better boat doesn't it ?

Heres a thought, next time before posting how about doing a search, Also alot of more experienced members would find your original post "belittling."

You forgot to add:

5) We did not get any iPod/MP3 input options

6) We did not get auto lights or auto wipers

7) The Audio HD will only accept original audio files - you can't upload MP3's at all (so basically can only upload original CD's - because like anyone actually buys them anymore...)

8) You can not get a Premium model delivered with the Dunlop tyres that come with the base model.

9) Pulling the down-shift lever quickly 3 times will not drop you down 3 gears. You have to space out the shifts.

10) They should have been designed with a straight mid-pipe from factory!

Turbo31 - you are new to these forums, have just purchased an R31 and I'm guessing are under 20.

I checked your profile and in 4 posts you have started 3 topics and the 4th post insulted other members who have been here far longer and contributed much more - and said " i hope you all die a terrible terrible death". Poor form mate. Pull your head in.

To help you survive these forums, have fun, get some answers to your questions and learn about the joys and agony of owning a Skyline I'll give some advice/direction:

You should have started here Newbie Introductions

You should use this whenever you have a question Search Function

And you should read these SAU Guidelines

I can understand your enthusiasm in owning a new Skyline and you may find that you know more about these brilliant cars than most people you hang around with. However there are many people on SAU that have decades of experience in owning, building, racing, drifting, driving, displaying and destroying them. You will gain the most by reading their posts and learning from their experiences. SAU is a brilliant forum that I visit daily and in 5 years on here have only been insulted once. You've managed that in less than a week. Think about it.

Enjoy and take some consolation that this thread - whilst unnecessary and inaccurate for most on SAU has also provided the opportunity for those members who own an R35 GTR to quash some commonly held myths.

I have been tempted a few times to suggest the R35 discussion forum be changed to the

"R35 OWNERS discussion forum" but I suppose after all this is the "internerd" & we cant discriminate.

I agree with the above posts. Have a look around on the forum & show some respect before

posting in this section.

It is a great forum. I have been on here for over 7 years.

Lets use it properly.

Jesus, that'd be a little aristocratic wouldn't it?

I don't own one, nor do I wish to, but I've spent lots of time working on, being involved with, and actually racing one. Your suggestion would block me out. Although I understand your frustration re the original poster and all the associated drivel.

    • Much less twat-tastic. CF wheels are too garish for civilised use.
    • From there, as the manual says....assembly is the reverse of disassembly, no tricks worth mentioning Much better (for me)
    • In my case, the standard wheel I had was in good condition but the buttons had more wear, so I swapped them across from the original wheel from the car. The plastic rear cover is held on by 4 tabs, and once the wiring is removed you can get access to 2 screws on each side the hold the buttons in From there I just swapped the wiring over. What was interesting is the standard style wheel is 2.0kg but the carbon fibre one is 50% heavier at 2.9kg. It even has a weight inside the wheel at the top to make up for some sort of imbalance in the design. weird
    • Once the airbag is off, to remove the steering wheel.... Undo the 2 plugs into the clock spring, and the horn connector from it's clip. Hit the 19mm nut with a rattle gun (preferably) or if you don't' have one, you probably want an assistant to hold the wheel in place while you use a breaker bar to undo the nut Then, screw the nut back on 3 turns, and pull the wheel sharply towards you. If that doesn't work hit it medium force with a rubber mallet on either side, or possible behind if you can get there. If that all fails (it shouldn't!) you might need a steering wheel puller
    • So, to next task....the carbon fibre steering wheel was either an expensive factory option or a chinesium special. Either way, I don't like either the flat bottom or thick ring style, so it had to go So...to remove the steering wheel.... First, disconnect battery negative and stomp on the brake pedal for a few seconds. Then, remove the small circular covers on each side of the wheel's rear surround to uncover the airbag clips. You need to push something like a flat bladed screw driver through, to push the steel clip inwards and pull the side of the airbag forward. Once you've done the easy side, same on the centre console side. You can see the tab you are shooting for circled in red Then, disconnect the horn spade connector and for the yellow airbag plug you need to get something small under the black locking tab to pop it out, then the connector releases......airbag is off
