Dean, What was the 2nd defect for?

All this crap is the reason im getting a 2nd car to drive around in, then i can then spend lots of time working on the car making it illegall and then a small amount of time driving it because i would never drive it in popular places anyway.

SKYLINED yes but not as likely, 9krpm, appologies also - at least you found someone who can tune your ECU.

Out of interest, how is your getting the car complied going? Should approach CAPA and see if they want to finish the developement for approval so they can sell the kits. I have actually been told it costs them in the vacinity of 50K to get one of their setups sorted and approved.

Thanks steve. Don't worry about the thread...it's fun to read what you guys like to share anyway :D

My car just spun the crankshaft bearing yesterday.

I will be doing a major engine upgrade soon, depending on the cost involve. My setup wont be "standard" or ideal for capa anymore. They were keen but were not that keen when I discussed this with them a while ago and it does not seems that convinience for me.

I will try to get compliance via interstate route when my car is back on the road.

You need to ask why it spun the bearing in the first place. Normally with a Honda its got a lot to do with oil surge rather than rod loading. Have this looked into very carefully before going ahead with any rebuild, or it may just happen again

Fortunately PCOTY is still alive and kicking after Mallala :) .... sorry to hear about your beast Dan - that sucks. I take it you got a new supercharger belt and then this happens .... what a damn shame.

9K, Sorry to hear about your probs, your car is a weapon

Fortunately PCOTY is still alive and kicking after Mallala  ....

Hoy hoy, mallala killed mine,. 1 burnt out turbo base gasket, 2 x front brake disks with large cracks and a cracked exhaust manifold!! half decent lap time though maybe? haha :D

Thanks for all the support guys

I think Mallala killed me too. I was contemplating on a couple of good laps with a few easy lap in between. However those porsches distracted me :)

Oil temp went up to 134 C

Drove around for a week with this oil :) because I did not have time to get the oil or change it  (Now I pay for the consequence :))

Change oil and supercharger belt on Sat. Went to Victor Harbour with the slick tyres. Close to redline in most gears. Found bearing noise when I got there :(

After I got back I found that the car was running on 3 cylinders. Compression still good. Noise from cylinder 2 bottom end.

Engine will come out this weekend for examination. Can any one give me suggestion on who is good at building Honda engines in SA? My cylinders are oval shaped though. This may be a little bit difficult in SA :( I am looking at stroker kits, forge pistons, lower compression, higher boost, bigger injectors etc etc but it looks like a lot of $$$ though :(

BTW What are the use of cylinder sleeves?

It looks like I will be short of $$$ for the AEM. I will have to use the Greddy Emanage. Is there any good tuners for the Emange in SA? Martin can you look after me with this one too ;)?

damn sorry to hear about your S15 John .... that sucks ass .... oh well at least mine survived :D ..... lucky I only did the 3 sessions though I reckon - it certainly is HELL on cars!

By the sounds of it your engine oil turned to water and thus you lost the bearing. I take it you still run the factory fuel economy 5W-30 oil, and that kind of oil will not protect your engine sufficiently once the engine oil temps rocket. You should have been using 40wt minimum! I wouldnt have even driven the car once the oil temps went past 115C!! 134C.. pwoah....

Stuff like Redline with lots of Moly in the oil may have saved your hide. Changing the oil out after mallala would have made no difference if the damage was done. Or as Munro said, you suffered oil surge. Did you check your oil level before you went to VH?

Sorry to hear bro... Good luck with the new engine. I'd hate to think of how much the repair will be....

My friend who had a top end rebuild on a B18C got his done at Formula Honda. Of the mechanics is from japan I believe. He knows what hes doing...

9krpm, dont feel too bad, your not the first to destroy an engine on the track due to oil problems, wont be the last. Expensive lesson though.

Can I suggest you give some thought to an oil cooler before your next attemp to whoop more porshces around mallala?:D

How did you go keeping up by the way?

engine cracked open today

crank bearings ok

cylinder 2's pistons was slapping around for god know reason, cylinder 2 wall badly scratched :P We also found that the spark plugs were very loose. Just hand tighted. Spark plug no 2 was shaved. Damn Honda mechanic!!!!! Mallala did not kill me, SH!T honda mechanic did!!!!!!

-10w30 mobil 1 supersyn oil. busky I had no choice mate :) the 134C was a peak temp, my oil temp was roughly averaged at around 120C. Oil usually break down at 140C

-oil cooler on the shopping list ;) thanks for the reminder steve

Time for rebuild with forged internals, decopressed pistons and more boost :) See you guys on road hopefully not tooooo long :(

Hmmm was it detonation that killed your engine then 9krpm? It seems that way, by the sounds of it. Or your plugs werent cold enough. Shucks. Such a nice engine gone to waste....

I don't think it's detonation

AF has been tuned at 12.5 at the ezhaust tip (this is fairly rich because my car cat is fairly good)

The honda cylinder/piston is ovally shaped as well so normal detonation mark is not applicable to my car (I hope :D)

I think it's the oil :D

Busky, are you back aldready?

Nightcrawler, Out Law in town is having a sale on oil cooler. I am planning to get one and custom order the pipes from Enzed in wingfield

    • from an old insurance company i was with (Budget Direct) I had someone roll back into me at the lights got them to pull over. Got a picture of thier licence with address, had a dash cam video and, thier phone number. But only had 3rd party on the shitbox i was driving. insurance did nothing, cops wouldn't do anything due to the value of the damage (under $3000) so i just had to suck it up and go to U Pull It.
    • Small Update on the Exhaust Situation A 200-cell cat was a bit too expensive for now, so I had the exhaust shop fabricate a new exhaust from the cat to the rear and an exhaust tip. I went this route to avoid cutting into the original exhaust and keep it intact. It’s essentially straight-piped, and the sound is noticeably different. The exhaust tip came with a silencer, so if it gets too loud, I can easily install it to tone things down slightly. Right now, the car bangs and pops like crazy -- which I personally love. In the future, I might add a resonator or a 200-cell cat, as niZmO_Man suggested, but for now, I’m really happy with how it turned out.
    • And that's a massive problem, because deadshits will deadshit and give you false details. At least in these days of mobile cameraphones, it is trivial to take photos of any ID they are carrying at the same time as the 300 photo extensive documentation of the state of the vehicles that I recommend even for minor incidents. And you get photos of the person's face, any visible tatoos, etc etc, while you're at it. Then you try to avoid mentioning that you're fully capable of making explosives of various power levels and will wreck their shit if you are forced to hunt them down.
    • No, I don't remember the exact reasoning (was 20 years ago!) but the cops didn't end up supplying it to us either. Actually my mother went through a similar thing recently where she was hit when stationary, flustered and didn't get address (she got plate details, name, phone and insurance company, but not address). Person who hit her blocked her number and their insurance company (naturally) would not provide any details. Her insurance company also required her to pay the at fault premium because she did not have the address, cops did not help as it is a minor civil matter (they said their only course was if the other driver had left the scene of the accident without providing any details). She only ended up getting that refunded because they happened to be insured with Suncorp and she was with APIA so same company owners. For some reason the address is critical in insurance companies recovering money from the at fault party
    • If you're driving something like an R32 through to R34, no chance of meeting Euro4. Euro4 came out in 2006, and car manufacturers back then were complaining how hard it would be to meet those regulations. Not a chance a vehicle 10 years earlier is going to be compliant.
