I’m a bit undecided what to do with my DR30.

I’ve built it up to be a nice street package to use in the odd classic rally etc.

I’ve entered in a 1 day classic rally just for fun and got some sponsorship for the event.

Just had a call from this companies brand manager and now they’re talking about upgrading the sponsorship.

If that happens I would need to upgrade the car a fair bit for more serious racing.

So do I strip it into a racer or go find a beat up S15 to race?

Almost seems a shame to turn this car into a racer.

Hi,

Found the pics in this thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Wt...pe-t284778.html

I agree with your conclusion.

I would do what Ghostrider has done, He has the PNV KHR30 as a showpiece/cruiser with good power to boot, and then the old DR30 he scored for under 4 grand, and done some effective mods getting it track worthy,

the thing is if he prangs the DR30 race hack, its not a massive loss.If the PNV got pranged, it would likely become a national day of mourning and countless dollars attempting to return it to its former glory...

My suggestion, look at a track only vehicle.

There is PLENTY of options out there, dont think of bulk killawasps but power to weight and a balanced chassis

the S13 Silvia can be put together for under 10 grand in a few weekends, and are cheap to fix/repair/upgrade

R32's are becoming cheaper and they also are a great package once the suspension is sorted well.

There are occasionally race only Lexus IS200 or whatever they are ,and they have some 2gtse BEAMS engine and fly along like a rocket.

an S15 is a more refined package, but as a track only setup, I would put the later model SR20det into the S13 and go mental from there...

OR

trawl the net for months on end and maybe find another DR30 to rescue from some p plater drift nut wannabe in adelaide...

hang on a sec! there is a big thread about one such thing just a month or two ago!

There are so many better base model cars to build a track car from would be both cheaper and would get better results from an S-chassis, and your car is too immaculate to do it to.

Come to think of it Datto boy's DR has been up for sale on here for a while and it is good start if you do want to make a track DR, it already has most of the basics few little bits and pieces here and there and it would be good to go

Hey I take offence to that, sounds like me, except I'm not a p-plater any more :D:(

definately don't race something nice.

buy something cheap (even if its a damaged version of the model you have) to race instead. it physically hurts to see what racing and rallying do to a car you love. and you really need to strip whatever it is first anyway, so repairs at the sametime are cheap and simple

I bought my car as a shitter 7 years ago to race, and even now it still hurts that I need to chuck the shell away and get a new one - too much damage to the chasis/body itself, bodywork, mounting points and chassis rails to stick with it for more than a couple of years more.

    • You just need a different blue slip shop (preferably one you regularly use as a mechanic), and make sure the coil overs are as close as possible to standard height
    • yeah the sugar refining companies were pushing for the same in Oz originally, all fuels were going to have 10% ethanol to make them "cheaper" (noting, that the loss in l/100 might be greater than the decrease in price). I guess they won that fight in Canadia
    • GTSboy, thank you again. i’ve been reading all the other SAU RB25 vacuum line threads and you have the utmost patience for people asking “where do my vacuum lines go”. it’s appreciated. i did also enlist a few other RB guys local to me.  i would like to run 5 to 4. turbo pressure side to wastegate actuator. i would like to run 3 to 1. power steering air valve line to intercooler outlet. (this is how it was previously). i was told 2 is the bleed port for the boost solenoid - which i’m not running - so should be capped.   anyone see any problems with that?
    • So yes. All of them. Something like 98% of all fuel in the USA has 10% ethanol: https://afdc.energy.gov/fuels/ethanol-fuel-basics It's labelled as like, AKI, 87, 91, 93 with an E10 or E5 or E15 label on the pump. At a certain point, it's not just "E10" instead of 91. It is 91, 95, 98, and all of them have 10% Ethanol in them. You can also get E85 and E30 which is why you do see some people rolling around with E30 tunes in them.
    • Thanks for the response. This is an 04 EP3 Type R. JDM spec. Fairly certain they're just basic BC racing coils. I do plan to keep as the ride quality on stock I've been told is pretty meh given Sydney roads. If I were to go down that avenue, does NSW require them to be a certain spec (close to original) etc?
