Hey everyone. I had a search on the forums. Found a couple topics sort of on the same brain wave but no exactly what I'm after. So forgive me if this has been coveren n just past me a link to where the topic is

ok...

My car has serious "power delivery" issues. Down low, as boost begins to come in the car will hesitate n stutter like mad (has better and worse moments. sometimes won't happen = rare though) and the car feels realy "bogged down" and hesitant. Not the smooth kind of "I'm running a bit rich" hesitant that creates flat spots either. Once the revs start climbing the initial "rapid/harsh" kind of stutter dissapears and is usually replace with a more minor stutter (still 100% noticeable) right through to redline.

The low rpm initial symptom happens practicaly always and can only be avoided if I let the revs wind up a bit (bout 3-3.5k) before putting the boot in (to which I will get one short sudden stutter before revs climb nicely) to which I'm then greeted with the next stuttering feelinG at higher rpms probably every 2 out of 3 times I attempt to let the revs climb for longer then about a second or 2 after the initial stuttering. (following so far? Lol)

I've tried to monitor the boost as this happens and it appears to be climbing steadily. And the boost doesn't seem to cut when the stuttering starts.

Ok my setup. Nothing fancy.

It's a r33 gtst s2 manual.

Pod.

hks cat back (or just rear muffler not sure, looks like a catback, although pipes seem a bit small)

Gizzmo digital boost controller (10psi)

Splitfire coils

Ngk iridium plugs pre gapped to .8. Heat rating 6.

Rest is stock. Now the coils n plugs I did last week to try rectify this problem as my mechanic took a quick spin n suggested it feels like a coil or a plug. Having replaced a coil earlier on I thought screw it I'll get the whole thing replaced.

Obviously to no avail which is why I'm here.

Before I waste any money taking it to my mechanic/tuner has anyone got any thoughts. Unfortunately this is ruining my enjoyment of my line :)

Thanx in advance.

Tys

If you're running a POD, it could have a film of oil on the AFM. Try taking the AFM out and spraying the thin wire thoroughly with CO contact cleaner.

ok mate will do. Thanx for the suggestion.

Is it likely to be that dirty as I'm running a dry pod setup?

Thanx again

Tys

How long has this been going on for?

since I had my boost contoller put in.

When it's set at 10psi preset I feel it the most. When I put it on 7psi preset I feel It less, or much less severe I should say, still as frequent. Howeever as increasing boost increases

fuel and changes a bunch of engine aspects, and as the boost appears to be holding consistantly I seem to think it's not a boost issue.

having said that it may have been happening before my controller was put it, and I may not have noticed. As I seethe boost higher higher (7,8,9,10 I have four presets) the symptoms get worse.

turn the car on and then tap the AFM or play with the plug leading into the AFM, if you experience the same stuttering probs normally means its a lose solenoid in the AFM...my car was experiencing the same problems and it was an AFM issue, had it replaced and shes running smooth now.

ok thanx I'll give both things a try. Ur suggestion and the other of checking to make sure AFM wire is clean. N I'll report back. Was ur problem mainly under load? Cos this is. Idle is fine.

Cheers

Cheers :(

Okm started it up, and tried messing with the AFM, tapping it, fiddling with the loom, the clip, giving it quite a bit of shake, more than id hope would be going on under normal driving onditions, n not so much of a hiccup.

i took off the pod n tried to have a look at the state of the wire, could only look through the mesh, and wasnt sure what a clean AFM wire should look like.. im in the process of trying to find an image on here showing the difference between a clean n dirty AFM wire...

any help on what a clean wire should look like.. as i couldnt see clearly and it looked like there was a bit of a buldge in the middle of the wire, is that grime, or a little sensor??? lol

Annddd any other suggestions to the cause of this problem... many thanks in advance...

Tys :)

Also need to mention... when i slowly ease on the throttle, it pulls nice n smooth.. the further down i have the throttle the more it starts to hiccup etc... esspecialy at low rpm under load.... thanx again

edit: i did mention it already in the first post :smackhead:

Don't worry abuot looking to see if it's clean.

Unbolt and clean it.

so completely unbolt and drown in CO contact cleaner?

any special precautions? (allow to dry? dont spray directly on wire, etc etc?)

thanks

Take it out completely filter and all piping off...

Spray the wire as much as possible. That's the sensor, you want it clean.

Let it dry, will only take a few mins to be 100% dry.

Only precaution, keep the stuff off your hands/skin. It's not bad bad to get it on, but your hands will get cold (And I believe it is carcinogenic too, but meh)

yup.

ahh ok. Lol. Went in a few times n spoke to him. Then he left n spoke to ummmm I duno mark I think his name was. N he gave me a card for status tuning. N I noticed it in ur sig lol
