Hi guys,

I grabbed a set of Shiang-I adjustable caster rods for my R32 GTR. They look ok quality with a rubber boot over the rose joint, which I was happy about.

But after talking to a couple of wanna-be drift kings they tell me that some of these after market arms break! How likely is this given it's only street driven?

Last thing I want is to be repairing the firewall after the caster rod snaps. I've seen it with stock rods when people just gutters and the like.

Your thoughts most appreciated.

My guess is that they're more likely to break under shock loading, because there's no part capable of dissipating energy like the bush in the standard setup. Also the bush means that the shock will be dissipated over a longer period of time which lessens the magnitude (because it deforms). That said, most people find they wear out..... Another potential concern is legality....

Yeah, I assume they aren't legal....Got boxes full of stock stuff here...........and at my parents LOL.

I've seen plenty of cars with these after market arms on, and no-name brands too. But I don't know of anyone who has had one simply break. Thats my main concern.

i've seen s13 toe arms snap during normal usage (though it was on a car that does see track work). Not one arm, but 2 on the same car and both during daily driving.

I've also seen a few pics of camber arms with cracked welds though don't know about the usage or back story there.

installed a pair i got from just jap on my 33 gtst today. seem solid. my standard ones rubbers had pretty much exploded. going for an alignment tomorrow at wholesale suspension so ill let you all know what they think about them.

nah i just said to give it a road alignment. so i think everythin is pretty straight. for them to align front and rear with adjustable rear camber and front castor, $120. all done with laser alignment.

why go and put cheap shit on your car???

you got a decent car save $50 more and go buy a pair of quality jap ones that are made for the conditions your car goes under, and i have only ever seen cheap crap snap, never ever seen a cucso, kts, slik road, jic, ikeya snap

i hit a gutter a while ago at a fair speed and it only put my alignment out, no damage at all to the adjustable arms, that proves quality counts

for a pair of front cusco castor rods last time i saw they were around the 450+ mark. so i got both of mine for pretty much the price of 1 cusco one. im not richy rich. im a student. i dont thrash the shit out of my car or drive it on tracks so theres no real reason for it to snap.

not really...it just proves you should not drive faster than your ability on the street :)

lots of people using chinese arms on their cars, as stated above the main issue is the cheap rod ends flog out pretty quick and you end up with a noisey clunky rear end that moves around randomly. still you could buy 5 sets of just jap arms before it became more expensive than cusco or similar

Hi Duncan what are your thoughts on just japs front castor, rear traction arms, and hicas lock bar for a r32 gtr have you had any experience using these products or heard of any info that you could give i am deciding whether to use there gear, which is affordable unless there is some good advice to be given not to. Any info is greatly appreciated.

sorry for the slow response - I haven't used them but I have recently bought a set to put under the new race car. I'll keep an eye on the welds and wear on the rod ends but I am not particularly concerned - Just Jap have sold hundreds of those arms.

Having said that, I would stay away from arms with rod ends instead of bushes on road cars, there is a reason no manufacturers put rod ends in their road cars.

I bit the bullet and purchased the Cusco castor arms as per usual they look the goods I asked around alot of performence shops all said great things about the product more expensive yes but I just wanted the peace of mind of the quality will post how I go with them.
