Sorry to keep bothering everyone with the questions.........

I met a bloke the other day who used to to a lot of work on the early skylines/datsuns. He was saying that my 1984 MR30 skyline had probably gained ten or fifteen bhp as the previous owner replaced the exhaust meaning that the emmissions control system had been ditched which allowed for much smoother airflow because the car(in his words) 'isn't trying to eat it's own shit'

What do you guys reckon?

"eating own shit" refers to the EGR system, Exhaust Gas Recirculation

Which actually varies between different setups, but sometimes the engine can make MORE power with the EGR gear left on.

The exhaust does still contain some unburnt fuel/air mixture. enough for some turbo engines to NOT have the need for extra fuel enrichment on boost.

An interesting read:

Also have a read up on HCCI http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homogeneous_c...ession_ignition. As much as we generally 'hate' EGR, it is a fundamental part of the prototype HCCI engines being developed at present. And some of the things that they can do are pretty cool.

    • I don't know....but I can't see how they would be. Different shape chassis and bumper means it is unlikely the reo is interchangeable. Doesn't mean it would be impossible to modify it to fit of course

    • Evening fam, Pretty much what the title asks, I have looked all over and can’t find a proper answer expect one post from almost a decade ago which is vague. ive seen photos and they look pretty much identical, would an r33 GTR N1 reo work on an r32? reason I ask is they are cheaper to buy… $700 compared to 1k+ for an r32 n1 reo
    • Couldn't help myself, had to start putting it together.... It really is a solid bit of kit.  Probably stronger than i would have made it myself to be fair! 🤣🤣 Sweating like a pig after that.  Bloody hot and muggy day today, time for a swim now!
    • Yeah was thinking that. I've had the car go lower idle possibly around 650rpm every once in a long time after pouring fuel and would sound quite rough like a misfire, almost like it's shit fuel or something but who knows.
