Hey all,

Been thinking about this one long and hard.

Originally bought the car for a daily nice cruiser with a bit of poke. Then did some mods to it to make it more performance oriented. Now i've got some junker old beater for a daily and saving up for a better daily..the V is only a weekender and hardly at that. I hardly drive it and almost never the way i want to drive it (e.g. only going to visit olds or get some maccas on the weekend/nights).

I am very happy with the way the V is atm and there wouldn't be much left that i would want to do to make it perfect for me. But with it not being driven much now, i can afford to have something less luxurious/more sporty stashed in the garage.. and i've always wanted to own a gtr (who doesn't lol).

So do i sell now.. it seems manual V prices are commanding around the 30k mark. Or do i keep it.

If i were to sell, i'd either save up a bit more and get a 34 gtr or get a 33gtr when the right one comes along and put a bit of money into maintenance/preventative mods.

Lastly, anyone willing to give a roughish figure on what i should advertise it for if i do wanna sell it ?

It's an 03 coupe 350gt 6spd, white, 59xxxkms, serviced meticulously, factory sunroof, premium, front lip+splash guards, aero kit (spoiler, zero lift), factory navi system/tv, brembos + lsd

Mods are roughly kakimoto exhaust, filter, z tube, plenum spacer, ecu flashed, new hks plugs, nismo thermostat, whiteline f+r swaybars, 350z 35th anniversary springs+shocks, trw lucas pads, rays gramlights 57s f8.5 245, r9.5 275 both +22 and rays long wheel/locknuts. 182rwkw (same power as stocko gtrs on my mechs dyno, the v does pull nicely).

Opinion/feedback welcomed obviously lol.

Note: i can sell as complete stock (except exhaust) or with all existing mods. So the price with all mods i would rather reflect this. I understand mods generally don't do jack squat, but there is always someone out there willing to pay the right price for something set up ok imho. Also if i were to sell, in no rush so i'm not gonna advertise it at market bottom price or lower.

Cheers.

I've thought about this a few times. I'm in the same situation as you with having a daily train station car and only getting the V out for 1 or 2 days a week during the weekend.

The thing that's stopped me is that I REALLY like my V. Obviously you're going to keep any GTR you buy for the same purpose (weekend super fun car) so why not put some extra cash into your V and put some Forced Induction into it? It will still be cheaper than a R34.

I would advertise your car for 40k with the mods, but you would realistically be looking at 35k or so I would think.

Mate, i'm going through exactly the same thing. Funnily enough we both own very similar cars and what i'm looking for is an R32 GTR. Ideally I would like to keep the V35 as a daily, but dont know if its gonna happen.

$35 would be a fair deal IMO. It would probably hurt for you to accept any less..

Offtopic - but do you have more info on the ECU reflash please? Would you happen to know what software they used and if it requires any hardware modfiications to the ECU? Or is it just a straight OBD2 connection like the evo and wrx?

Cheers and good luck.

Thanks for the replies and thoughts guys! $35K was what i had in mind as well, though i'm not sure i can advertise it anywhere near 40k lol.

Scorp,

I know what you mean. The V hasn't been the daily for quite some time now. Only reason i still have it is because i absolutely love the damn thing lol. I did toy with the idea of FI but supercharger instead... but with that amount of torque, i'll be wanting awd hence the gtr. Like Scathing said as well..it just doesn't compare lol. (have always liked n/a best as well..so another reason).

Xscape,

I'd love to keep the V as a daily lol but can't afford to anytime soon. Mortgage and need to start thinking about another place for the missus and myself.

ECU flash involved removing ecu from car, soaking it in a solution for 2 hour to open, then a further 2 hour soak to remove a glued eprom chip, which is then replaced with a new unit. Then new data is written to it using software. AFR, ignition, speed limiter and rev limiter are all changed. Pretty sure thats how it goes. From what i know, the american solutions work too which are obdII based.

Scathing,

Yes i know.. lol.

I think i will do it.. only live once!

I'm pretty sure my ECU reflash didn't require the ECU be pulled apart.

My flash only adjusted the rev limiter, not AFR or timing, but the software will allow it if someone learns how to find out what codes correspond to what settings.

And, do it!

Thanks blokes for the comments re ECU flash. I already have the IMPUL ecu meaning that the limiters are gone. I was hoping to find somebody who may be able to tune the thing, i suspect it would be the same as reflashing the standard ECU but im not going to bother if it requires a new EPROM chip.

I guess the VQ tuning community does not have enough IT nerds.

Scathing,

Currently chatting an R33 gtr owner about possible trade lol..i'm trying!

xscape,

Having the impul ecu is more reason to flash it imho. The impul thing would be tuned for japanese 100 or maybe even 104 octane fuel..meaning it's most likely pinging with aussie 98octane fuel. One particular ex v owner i know of had the impul ecu too and got it flashed. While he got pretty much no power gain, it also completely removed his pinging problem. If you had a factory ecu..could've used the american uprev/osiris system if you didn't want to remove eprom chips etc but not sure if it will work on the impul ecu. GL
