Hi guys,

RB25DET throttle body a good choice for the L24E? Also can anyone estimate the bhp(at the flywheel) that these mods will give an L24E?

-72 degree regrind camshaft from SW motorsport

-RB25DET throttle body

-Exhaust (2.5 inch piping i think)

-K&N panel filter

-Maybe a set of extractors

-Also thinking about using variable resistors to modify the afm(has anyone done this before?)

I'm looking for about 160hp so I have to try and gain about 30hp up from stock. I have turbo plans for the future but just looking at N/A mods for the moment.

Yeah, gonna try and install mods that will work well with the turbo as I'm planning to turbo the L24E rather than do an engine transplant............

Why?? Because there are heaps of RB20DETs around and L24ETs are a lot fewer :)

i just bought an rb20 s13 silvia and believe me mate, it's a monster of an engine! bang for your buck and parts availability are only an advantage to you man.

Hi,

FYI. This looks similar to what you're trying to do:

There's a reason for that Later technology, more power, cheaper and less hassles.

If you still want to stick with the old motor maybe try to find an old L20ET and graft the bits on

Cheers

The engine management is the main restriction mate.

Even if you do all that stuff hardly any real gain will be had unless there is an after market copgyback like a microtec MT4 or full ECU replacement.

If youre keen enough the RB30 gear can be used, from an R31 Skyline, it is re-mappable via nistune. lotsa mucking about though

another idea is the Delco 808 setup that runs the Holden Camira, dont laugh it is HEAPS better than the Bosch shit...

Requires heaps of fiddling and research mate....

cheapest bang for buck is bolt the turbo gear on, get a copgyback ecu, all can be done for under $1000

If i could start over, I would likely convert to RB30e very cheao and easy to work on, and can boost real good too.

Use the search feature a bit more too

What's everyone's opinion on the cam itself? Good move or no point(I'm installing it on Saturday)? I was told that the stock setup chokes the L24E pretty bad and the cam would fix that significantly(like about 15-20hp worth N/A); but I would REALLY notice the advantages when the motor is running boost.......

And rear R31 disk brakes. Also a good move?(they are going on in the next fortnight hopefully)

Sorry MAG86, I am an idiot I just tried a few alternative keywords in my search and found the answer to about 3 other questions I had. Sorry to make you repeat yourself. I am going to investigate remapping the delco further.........will let you know how it goes

Are you fitting new/re-ground rocker arms and the right size lash pads? If not, you're wasting your time and may destroy the cam in short order.

I suggest that you have a read of the L series 'bible' available here or here or here. And take it from there.

Cams are very different from N/A to Boosted

A Turbo cam will make youre N/A run like shit, especially if youre useing the factory ECU.

Save the money. Get the turbo first!!!

If youre careful a turbo setup can be run on low boost, with the factory ECU

That would be the way to go first, then save over time for the ECU p1ggyback. Microtech MT4 can be found for $200 or so

If youre after turbo gear, search ebay, this forum, Ozdat, wreckers, engine importers.

The L28et stuff from the 280zx turbo will bolt STRAIGHT ON

Since you guys are talking about part,

I'm after another L28ET turbo manifold, the 2 on ebay will not ship internationally.

If you after some info on a turbo L24e build, this is what I did on my 240K

I started with just a EFI transplant, then my turbo install

If you have the fuel pump, the fuse box (including the main plugs and foot or two of the wiring to it), the injector coil pack , and the engine efi wiring (will strip this down to what I need),

if the efi harness does not have the plug that goes to the coil pack, i'll need that as well, but I'm sure it does.

$300 for the turbo manifold is a bit more than I'm willing to pay (the one I got from the US was about $150 to my door), so I'll just keep an eye out for another one to show up on eBay.

From hanging out on "Hybrid Z" http://forums.hybridz.org/

I came across a post talking about a N/A cam that works very well on a turbo engine, the cams is the "A" type, look on the end of the cam for the stamp (other end from the timing sprocket).

this is what I'm running on my L24 turbo engine (mine L24 is a standard N/A engine, out of a MR30, L24e)
