I haven't seen any pop.

In my opinion, what would most likely kill the engine is:

- Not tuned properly resulting in detonation. eg. timing not adjusted correctly, not meeting the fuel requirements, too small injectors and/or fuel pump.

- Inadequate fluid cooling, in particular on the neo's. Dori and I have both discovered how hot the oil temps run on an RB25DE+t Neo. 90 degrees after a 15minute drive to work isn't uncommon, 100degrees after driving on the motorway also not uncommon and it's not quite summer yet. A 13 row oil cooler will help in this area. I should have my kit fitted this week or next and will report back on the results.

- Too high intake temps. A good FMIC will definitely help to reduce intake temps as with 10:1 compression you want to keep things cool.

- Too much boost. Mind you I've seen the likes of WYTSKY running 15PSI through an R33 GTS4 RB25DE, but don't expect a set up like that to be long-term reliable (in my opinion anyways), it's fine if you're looking to rebuild later on. I still think that unless the engine is already in poor shape, you'll probably reach the limits of a stock factory turbo before anything else.

- The driver/owner. Like any car, if you red line it day-in-day-out, don't maintain it, don't give it time before turning off the engine, etc.. you can't expect any car to last long.

Don't skimp on a good tune, have adequate cooling where it's needed most, drive it sensibly (driving it on 7PSI on a daily and having a high boost option for 10-12 isn't going to hurt THAT much now.. ok it does hurt but you get by ok with 7PSI for just commuting to and from work), maintain and service regularly and it should be fine.

Keep in mind that there are drifter's running RB25DE+t's as well. In my opinion, if it can handle the abuse on the track, albeit combined with good cooling solutions to match, then with the above taken into consideration there shouldn't be much of an issue.

If I didn't see it that way, I wouldn't have done the conversion.

sup, top bloke.

i've got RB20de+T

been running for ummmmmmmmmmm

74+118 = ...dont know... not ven a relevant equation try again

118-74 - 44thousand klms

hasn't skipped a beat

there's no reason the engine would pop. it's a nissan, honda i can understand because they're not designed to have turbos added

nissan blocks already have the plumbing there ready to go to my knowledge, the only difference is that the compression of the head is higher. so the response is greater.

take that into consideration however. RESPONSE IS FAR GREATER.

so

response is greater.

do you NEED a massive front mount? no.

do you NEED 880cc injectors? no.

do you NEED a T88 with extenally gated boost gate manifold stainless gold HKS greddy frontpipe manifold turbo turbo kit? no.

in short - if you don't want your motor to go bang

then build the turbo with stock parts - once you've done that, and it works, THEN you can modify it... but my advice is don't go to nengun and ask for a extenally gated boost gate manifold stainless gold HKS greddy frontpipe manifold turbo turbo kit when you're not sure how the engine will handle having a extenally gated boost gate manifold stainless gold HKS greddy frontpipe manifold turbo turbo kit

ps

i was kidding about calling you a top bloke i just thoguht i'd throw it in there for shock value

but yeah

my advice is

do it right the first time, then build up modification parts... oh and DONT LOSE ANYTHING. TAKE NOTES OF EVERYTHING YOU DO. KEEP YOUR NUTS N BOLTS IN THE ONE PLACE. LABEL THEM IF YOU HAVE TO.

2 years and going strong! BIGGGG upgrade commencing in only a few days/week...

I'll show u Nathan, that all our blocks can take that PSI :/ that being said... I don't think ive touched red-line for atleast a month or more... maybe the secret i don't know....honestly i don't need to go over 5,000 on the street...

Can't wait for the new gear to be put in...:)

I'm waiting in anticipation to see what you've got coming! I still think your nuts :/ Any hints on what you've got in store?

You're right about that... since doing my conversion I don't feel the need to rev it out as much anymore for street driving.

I don't doubt that the DE blocks can take the pressure.. it's more a case of how reliable and for how long it can, but yours is living proof that they can take some pretty big boost without giving up the ghost.

good oil, service regularly & god damn good tune is the key.

adam, i am keen also to see whats coming next for ya you crazy bastard.

u still using the 3071?

its a little bigger then that :(

Im waiting on a single part that is being custom made by a machinist to suit

  • 2 weeks later...

yeah ive been eyeing their motors DaGr81 and its pretty good for that price too!

i pumped thru 14.5 psi as i was testing my EBC yesterday and boy it was quick!

no traction on 18x10" work rims on 2nd and 3rd which shocked me so i backed off immediately lol

hehehehe... and this is how mine ended up staying at 15-17psi :)

    • It's unfortunate what Tomei USA has done to Tomei's name in general. I'm very weary of ordering parts from them now. I only order direct from a Japanse source (e.g Nengun). At least their logos are different, so you end up knowing what you have.
    • Update Issues 5 (plus #4) - 10 After making a claim about issue #4's missing part, DeAgostini Japan sent a whole new issue #4 and it arrived about 2 weeks after that. That was back in early March. It took another 4 weeks to receive issues 5 - 13 though. This update is for issues 5 - 10. Ove the 5 issues the front left suspension and most of the engine have been completed. The quality of the castings and fit of the parts is quite good, it seems better than DeAgostini's BNR34 Skyline GT-R from the Fast & Furious 2 movie, which (to me anyway) doesn't seem to have as tight tolerances or quite as accurate castings.  Each issue has a lot of info about the 1989 - 1993 Skyline range and other Nissan models from that era, but the focus is on the BNR32 Skyline GT-R Nismo and the various racing it did in Japan, Europe (Spa 24hrs) and of course Australia. I've included some text translated with Google Lens in some photos and will add to them if there's anything worth including.
    • If it's for a SR20, make sure it's not the American Poncams, might as well call them Poocams. Had a set in a friend's car, all scuffed up after a few track days. Like the metallurgy Tomei USA used is junk. Went back to JDM OG Tomei Poncams, no issues till now.   Tomei USA is not the real OG Tomei.   Random rant over, fk the US of A, bunch of c u n t s.
    • Most of the industry in North America either runs on Siemens or Allen Bradley. I have two redundant S7-1500's on my desk right next to me for simulation. Siemens has been losing ground though since Stuxnet, as cybersecurity is a big thing. In my line of work that is federally regulated, you must by law have a cybersecurity management program in place and its audited and inspected every so often.  I work with Emerson PLC's daily (RX3i's) and have done large biogas/refinery projects with their DCS's. Their PLC's are somewhat OK minus the way they do PLC redundancy (You have to download on both PLC's separately every time you make a change )  As for their DCS's... you'll be limited financially first before anything else stops you. Costs are exorbiant at roughly 10x what it would cost you to do with any other system (e.g AB PAC).  1990's, those suckers are brand new haha! Kraft-Heinz (An old client when I use to work for an ESP) still runs Siemens TI505 PLC's from the mid 80's. Ohh how I don't miss working with those... you could only do a certain number of online downloads until it's "Change" buffer would be full and you would then need to go offline to do a full download. There was no warning of when this was coming up and it generally would happen when you would go in at 2am to make changes before production -_-.
