does anybody know if, you put a custom intake pipe from your throttle to under the chassis and have a pod filter outside of the chassis but still under the car ,is illegal even if the intake system is secured tightly onto your chassis?

So i got a box as suggested(thanks for that) , from high octane was 85$. And fitted it (with some difficulty/adjustments) and all was good, went to mechanic to get it all ticked off, thinking it would only take 15 mins. 3 hours later he comes back with a nice list of other things i need to get fixxed because the cop ordered a full inspection not just a part inspection so things such as handbreak not staying up ( missing a spring and when i had a look turns out its a silvia handbreak not a skyline one?) I need a light for rear number plate, kinda new that one :( and power sterring fluid leaking :(

But the main killer is the exhaust, he couldnt test it but said that he thought it was too loud so id have to go get it tested somewhere else. So my old man has the equipment to test it, so figured we would just to get a ballpark figure of where it was at, tested it at 3200rpm because that was what was suggested in the adr guidelines here http://www.ntc.gov.au/filemedia/Reports/Na...estSept2006.pdf for a pre 1995 6 cylinder engine. When tested it was hitting bout the 105db area :P (90db is limit )and now i need to fix all this before december 5 or the car gets de-registered. Any thoughts? im looking for pretty much the easiest way to pass the test? Id rather not have to buy a new muffler get that installed etc, i like having a loud exhaust, it sounds beautiful :)

Easiest way go to awrecker tell em you'll pay them $80 to borrow a stock exhaust, provided they put it on for you as well.

Or borrow a stock one from someone you know from here.

When I had to do a blue slip that's what I did, the guy didn't check handbrake or fluids tho... Maybe try sum1 else with a stock exhaust

yes it is.. its got to do with the exposed airfilter sucking in more air than the car was designed to.. changing the emissions.. nothing about where or how its mounted.

like i said.. they are trying to make it hard for you.. wait till you have a highly modded turbo skyline, try getting it passed a blueslip when full inspection is ticked.. unless you know someone who knows someone.. its a major hassle and one that made me sell my car when it was done.

how does your handbrake not stay up?? how do you use your handbrake?? and 105 db seems pretty loud man... my atmo r31 was 110db and it was unbearable... my r33 gtst was 95db on the dot and it was just perfect.. at 105db youd be rattling peoples foundations as you drive past.. dont believe me?? there is a mongrel vn commodore that drives past my house everyday.. it makes the most horrible noise and shakes the entire house..

^ what he said + make friends with guys who own wreckers they usualy get alot of their imports past blue slips because they know someone so it's easier when they bring in modified imports or put cars together with a mix of parts and chuck em on the roads

Also you don't want a filter that low so when you drive in the rain it'll suck in water or worse when you get flash flooding and get water all in your engine..

i had the filter that low on my bugeye wrx.. it sat behind the fog light hole... but i just made up an aluminium box to surround it except for the opening at the front.. it worked pretty good and pretty hidden away. i just made up a second box where the pod would normally sit and that housed the boost control solenoid and the hks bov on the cooler pipe.

if you can find an importer or wrecker that does blueshlips... like the one at tamworth... import engines 4 u... they are pretty leanient as they know imports... rta cracks down on them pretty hard though as they know importers.

^^ did you ever have problems in flooded roads? I remember last year driving home from the city (Sydney) went past bankstown and it was flooded like shit, water as high as the sill plates on your doors, people with hazzard lights stuck in the middle of the roads, I flew past them all because I wasn't worries got home though and my imobiliser was soaked and screwed up due to the floods and water being so high. Wouldn't a filter that low on your subie have caused a problem?

my rex wasnt a daily.. i rarely drove it when it was raining heavily. and i dont live in a flood area or an over populated built up town/suburb with poor drainage.. my house is on top of a hill... so no... flooded roads werent a problem for me personally.

The spring that pushes the catch thing to grip into the teeth as you pull up is missing/broken, its not hard to fix i just lift the leather boot and push the latch into the teeth and its fine, then release as normal.

Got a new muffler for 200$ and had it installed, sitting at 89dB now

i checked the sound at 3200rpm as that was the only figure i could find online, turns out rb25de's are tested at 4800rpm so i was fair bit off, but at 3200rpm we measured it at 103dB, so im guessing its even louder at the 4800rpm. Yes its really loud, if you sit in the back seats for any period of time you will probably go deaf :) . Spent 2thousand on my subs/speakers to overpower it though lol.

simple .... theyre in an unsafe position of loosing revenue!!! , never got that one, bit like the old winsheild bottle not at least 10% full

wow, i didn't know pod filters have to be enclosed :D that's kinds silly isnt it? like whats going to happen thats "unsafe" in the eyes of the law with an un-enclosed pod filter?

must admit MOST of the CC copaz are pretty layed back compared to the rest of the east coast ( been booked then had a 20min car yak with one bloke), however therez always one or 2 exceptions

been given a warning 4 do'n 190 in an 80 (foot slipped), but got my a$$ reamed there one day cause my back left wheel touched the white line on the outside of the road while go'n round a left bend

end of the day I thingk the best prevention of defeacts is to know ya $h|t (regs, whats std, whats affected by each mod and so on) and don't be 2 much of a smart a$$, attitude can go a long way. Take ya time , theres no need to rush, some cops will try this in an attempt to 'keep you on the back foot' as well as a distraction technique. I found after the first dozen encounters they get to know who ya are, and tend 2 leave you alone. but go a bit wild and theyl definatley get to know ya.... trust me I've seen a photo of my car hangn in the local pork pen ( may years ago, I'm a good boy now, honest osifer)

also get to know what they are is trained in, it can be used to ones advantage ... I mean there tought how to read body language, limited psycology etc etc .....I think everyone knows where I'm goin here or am I just devious

WTF that is like 110 km/hr over the limit! :D

You would get jail and a public flogging here in WA for that. lol

its not so much "un safe" for our cars even tho they can say it till the sky falls down... its more the fact that its pointless not having it enclosed with CAI, as all its doin is sucking hot as engine air into the intake thus lowering performance... in nsw they must also be fully mounted, lol which means no cable ties! :)

big +1 to the cops being more laid back on the CC! lol

they must have had their monthly quoter raised by the government tho as they r getting abit more harsh lol, but as long as ur not doin the wrong thing or driving a car with a cop magnet in it they generally dun even take a second look at u

    • My take on gg2 48mm, 54mm, 58mm, and 62mm compressor map for same size compressor vs gg1 : All gg2 only outflow gg1 above 20 psi. As all g gen 2 surge line at lower left of comp map move to the right, all gg2 sacrifice spool vs same size gg1, surge line move to the right worst for 54mm gg2. So for same size compressor if you want best response, use gg1, if you want max hp at >20psi use gg2 but you will be laggier vs same size gg1. Max compressor efficiency drops to max 75% on all gg2 vs max 76%-80% of same size gg1. Iirc lower efficiency means hotter iat less dense air so lower hp at same operating point of comp map. Also curious why gg2 is mapped to lower max rpm vs same size gg1 (only 48mm size both gg1 gg2 mapped to same rpm) : 54mm gg1 165,000 rpm  vs  gg2 160,000 rpm. 58mm gg1 150,000 rpm vs gg2 140,000rpm. 62mm gg1 145,000 rpm vs gg2 140,000 rpm. If gg2 can safely spin to gg1 rpm then they can flow a bit more than as mapped. Good thing that all gg 2 interchange compressor and turbine housings with same size gg 1. So gg1 owners can buy gg2 chra only if planning to boost >20psi.
    • My stuff is all with Shannon's, granted, I don't really have imports I'm driving on the road, however, I've had multiple cars at the same time with them. Presently we have the Landcruiser on laid up cover, Sarah's Kluger on full cover, and the house insured. About 18 months ago Sarah wrote her Subaru Liberty GTB off, insured with Shannon's, and the payout, and buy back of the wreck was super quick. In 2020 we had the VF Commodore totalled in a major hailstorm. Storm was on the Saturday, I called on the Sunday and lodged it, vehicle was towed on Tuesday night, assessment team called on Wednesday to say it was a total loss and get payout details, money was in the bank on Thursday morning. Have had a few other claims both at fault, and not at fault, over the years, and never had an issue with them.   Funnily enough, they're also the cheapest insurer I find for things like Sarah's Kluger.   I will say I'm less impressed dealing with them lately around "the experience", as a lot of their staff that you deal with aren't car enthusiasts. Shannon's has a much more main stream feel ever since they decided to become "big corporate", laid a heap of staff off, and then hired a bunch of non enthusiasts. At the same time they've been making a push to be less "call us and we'll personally have someone who cares help" to "hey, this computer can do stuff for you" and are trying to get more square pegs to fit round holes. (That's just the vibe I get from them). Again, have had no issues with claims with them, but get a bit of a "less personal" feel from them.
    • A thing I wasn’t happy with with enthusiast was during the initial phone call they told me they’d insure it for 130k but needed photos.   I then sent them photos and they told me $80k as there were other cars either similar modifications available for around that price, I told them to send me the links to said cars so that I can buy them. i then sent the modification list with prices of the parts (no labor) and the price then came to 115k, which is still shy of the 130 that was agreed in the initial phone call
    • Ask me a bit later this week before payday
    • I agree that delayed payment probably isn't the most suitable solution. It seems a solid complete transaction would be best. As I wouldn't be using this sale as a line of credit that would typically earn interest, we can probably arrange a much cleaner single transaction deal. I can do $92.52 today. Would you prefer EFT, or Cash on Pickup?  😛
