I rarely post q's on this forum, but thought there might be some useful bits of information to come from you members about baffle design.. since i know a few of you have track cars, etc..

first thing to note, this is for my BMW, so the sump is a REAR bowl type arrangement, not mid/front like the rb26. The 3d render is suited to the RB26 block while allowing for the position of the oil pickup.

note the downward slope of the 'wings' on the baffle, this allows oil to flow quickly back into the reservior, and assist with keeping oil down during braking/corner/accel

any thoughts welcome... i'm still in the planning stages while the sump ring gets back from the laser cutter

Cheers,

Chris.

with rb26's make it as deep as possible and make sure it holds a minimum of 6 litres. Pickup should sit about 4mm from the sump bottom NO CLOSER. the pickup should also be in a box section so that oil cant run away from it (run hinges on each side to let oil in but not out)

ok trent thanks for the tip.. with regards to the use of the 4 'wings' on the pan.. any thoughts? does it makes sense to have these to stop the oil flowing out with those forces in cornering and accel/braking..?

i've seen the use of hinges around a box section could i get away with some box section with some holes cut into it..? is the idea to stop the splashing of the oil and stop the pickup from drawing on pockets of air momentarily?

have been thinking about this for ages (months) but still feel like a noob..!

any more thoughts my design anybody? sump ring is back from the laser cutter today so wanted to get this sorted.. i think setting the pickup nice and low and in the centre of the bowl, plus having these angled wings should keep oil down
