Given how a commonly cited 'required' mod for tracked RBs is an oil cooler I'm wondering what are the commonly chosen options?

Given our dollar, a Japanese or even American unit would be reasonable I imagine?

The trust setup comes with a BNR32 arrangement: http://www.nengun.com/trust-greddy/oil-coo...andard-location

Or perhaps the PWR core with some custom lines: http://www.horsepowerinabox.com/HPIAB2/category82_1.htm

im a brand junkie but to be honest the SABER gear is spot on we use one on the track car and it is as good as the jap gear that was on it. The blue versions are best as the material transfers heat better. www.bbmmotorsports.com.au

Personally im looking at getting a PWR core, my own lines and fittings to my sizes i need and a sandwhich plate with thermostat setup. Should work out cheaper than most kits, allows me to have the correct length of lines that i want, dont need to remount my filter (f**k all room for it personally) and will be a decent core.

i run a jjr silver kit (they have the blue kit as well). on track i havent seen the oil over 100 yet.

adapter plate and fittings seal well, with some teflon tape.

the kit has been in two difference chassis now as well. works well for the price, would recommend.

"Cooling Pro"/ JJR kits, yes or no?

yah but get the blue type the heat transfer and flow is better, i tested the two back to back as originally we ran two grey JJR then two blue and the difference was about 10c.

Serck speed core. The JJR one looks very similar and may have similar results; but is not guaranteed to a certain pressure the way the Serck Speed one is.

The B&M core I had was in no way up to the task.

Which size is recommended?

Is a thermostat required? and I have heard their are different methods of filter relo, is there one that is recommended too?

if youre getting pwr get jjr. both need shit cleaned out of them prior to fitment.

hks one is good. ive got the remote filter one with some sereck 25 row coolers, but they need alot of ducting to work properly.

the jap ones/jjr have a much wider fin spacing so there placement isnt as critical and they dont need as much ducting.

dont put infront of the radiator coz oil will be down and water up..

placing them in the brake duct area of the front bar is best..

to get the most out of them you need to remove the factory oil filter/cooler asembly on the block and relace that with a non oil cooler filter block aka rb20 or na rb25 etc etc.

Wowzers, 11 responses with about 11 different recommendations :). That does go somewhat toward explaining why I have seen so little mention of actual setups.

Incidently I have a 26 and access to the oil filter is pretty simple, is a relocation really worth the extra fittings?

This is the setup we use it still has the jjr remote mount but the spin on to the block is GREDDY (nicer, cleaner fit)

Genuine speedflow fittings (the crimp ones are shite) saber core and decent hose (soon to be replaced with kevlar wound gear)

EDIT: just recognised the engine bay :) if you need a cooler dave i have a few laying around

I use a trust/greddy set up with the in built thermostat.

Helped to keep a highly stressed origional bottom end together.

The thermostat was a must for me... Tassie is too damn cold most of the time, (great for making hp in turbo cars... not so good for warming oil to working temp). If your going to drive it on the street, get a thermostat... otherwise it's a real pain warming the car up for so long everytime you want to go for a drive.

You shouldnt need to use teflon tape on an oil cooler at all. If you buy the cheap crap then yeah it might leak.

But seriously the decent aeroquip or Mocal fittings are ideal. They wont leak, and Mocal even say not to touch their fittings with tape.

I pieced my own together from a US site, ended up with a Mocal setup with Aeroquip re-useable fittings.

I didnt get the thermostat version as i opted for a smaller 13 row core. I dont track the car regularly. And my oil temps are just fine on the street and track with it full flow. If it gets a little warmer than is ideal i can always upgrade the core size easily.

The setup cost me around $350USD. and i got 8 feet of hose. So at the current exchange, its a pretty good price.

Yes i know they got a little munched  But theyre not easy to get to! Plus you dont see them. )

Expect to make a custom spanner for those! Haha.

And personally i dont think an RB25 is hard to change the filter, so decided relocation was a waste of $ for the extra 4 fittings etc that i would need.

No leaks, no fuss. Unlike some mates that got the kits that come with gold fittings etc. They leaked alot and needed tape. And i think mine ended up costing a little less too. And as you can see i did have to change one fitting. At the time of purchase i was in the USA and had to guess from photos about what angles id need.

Since the install a good 80% of the hose has been covered in that black plastic loom cover stuff. Just incase it rubs on anything, as the stainless braid is actually pretty weak if its touching anything metal. just the important parts are uncovered :)

my advice, the jap brands (basically HKS or trust) are excellent. and whilst expensive are actually not bad value for money when you add together what you actually get. in a trust GTR kit you get:

good quality oil cooler (no swarf inside it like the cheap chinese ones are full of, good design and manufacture and the fittings are well brazed and wont snap off).

quality earls lines (all cut to the right length and with fittings assembled) chinese ones have generic length lines which are always way too long and have crimped on fittings, the trust ones have proper early fittings (again try pricing up all those, and the time needed to cut the hoses and assemble the fittings properly)

they come with GTR specific ducting so you can fit it nicely in the passenger side brake duct and have it properly ducted so it will actually get good airflow (sitting one behind the intercooler and in front of the radiator is a bad idea, it will be getting bugger all clean, cool air). all you need to do is vent the inner guard that's behind it so the air can escape into the wheel well are (so air flows THROUGH the core, not just onto the face and then around it like a brick wall.

they come with high quality adapter for the engine block which has fittings for temp and pressure sensors.

they comes with high quality remote filter mount which also has more space for temp and pressure sensors (i mounted my defi oil pres and oil temp sensors here) and it has a built in thermostat so on the street oil will still get up to temp quickly.

when you look at all the kits side by side the price of the trust or HKS kits quickly becomes justified to me. especially on a GTR. they need a good one, and need it mounted/installed properly.

if you can't afford new then consider a used trust kit just try to ensure it's not from a car that died of an engine failure (as it's likely full of bearing material etc that can wreck your car).

I've got my Earl's 19 oil cooler in the passenger side there, but having trouble finding a vent for my inner guard to vent the hot air. I understand the GTS-T passenger inner guards have the rear vent for the sidemount intercoolers, will I be able to use the inner guard on my R32 GTR, or will I have to cut the vent out and rivet it to my stock inner guard?
