got a fairly stock 34 took it too trackon friday. has bilsteins, FMIC, cat back, pod (no box). Ran oil top line motul oils in gearbox, engine and diff. Used 300v 10-40 in engine. Well it was 30*C that day and i couldnt keep my oil temp down. at the start of day wasnt too bad by the end of the day i could only do one lap then do a 5-10min cool down. Fairly annoying. Also massive!!!!! turbo lag, was rediculous. other than that need some help with adjusting my understeer. So questions are is this temp normal, avoidable dangerous and how can i fix it, secondly intake temp should i get a cai even if i have a FMIC? i checked oil during day i didnt burn any oil and as soon as oil hit 130 i would cool it down to 100 then go again.

a cold air box is a good idea, cold air is denser so it helps reduce the spool time as the air is "thicker" helping to make your turbo more efficiant

also the colder the air going in to your turbo the colder the air coming out of your turbo. the less work and heat your intercooler as too deal with.

i had issues with boost control on my engine with top mount turbo with no air filter or intake due to vairing intake air temps

since i made up a duct with a cold air sheild i gained approx 5-10kw due to cooler intake charge of 5-10degs (air temp sensor between intercooler and throttle body) and spool picked up 200rpm on the dyno at my work, results will vairy between setups of course.

a bell mouth on the end of the intake would help even more.

heat wrapping intercooler piping on the hotside and intake also help with keeping the heat out.

What do you mean by this?? Because I am looking at getting an oil cooler.

A melted/blocked up cat might explain the turbo lag and oil high temperatures (if the turbo is oil cooled). Also skyline water temperature clusters are really vague, the dial will indicate halfway but in reality it could be 100c+ without a consult program or a consult LCD (see ecutalk.com) to tell you what the temperature actually is. Factory oil cooler uses coolant to to cool the engine oil down (or warm it up), so keeping the water temperature down is a must (radiator guides, redline water wetter etc)

As for understeer, lots of different things you can do; play with tyre pressures front and rear, wider tyres up front, if you have coilovers, soften up the front damper setting alittle, while stiffening the rear damper setting alittle, adjustable swaybars.

Was the oil changed the day before the track day or had you already done a fair ammount of street kilometers on it?

Exposed pods are useless on the track, shielding it is necessary, stock airboxes are preferred, CAI will help, every little bit helps.

130c is a good point to backoff, temperatures are quite normal for a street car without a oil cooler.

the colder the oil is the thicker it is and the harder the pump has to work to pump it and the higher the oil pressure is, once the engine is up to operating temp the oil thins out and the pressure drops, if you have an external oil cooler that works well, on a cold night it will cool the oil too much, oil coolers are designed to cool very hot oil not average temp oil so on a cold night you cover the oil cooler to let the oil get up to normal operating temp.

Unless you are having an oil cooling problem or are going to do track days an oil cooler really isnt needed.

    • I got the hazards working! Turned out it was disconnected! Indicator stock still isn’t working. I took the steering shroud off and there seems to be a third connection missing I see two small white connectors but they don’t fit the indicator switch unless they need a short lead to convert the connector type.     • All of your suspension bushes/bolts etc, should also only ever be tightened when the car is sitting with full weight too.   IE, jack it back up, shove a heap of stuff down so you can lower the wheels onto so the car is "on the ground" but you have room to get under it.   It's why when properly done, you should be able to remove the shock and spring, but the arms won't go to 100% droop. If you don't do the above, you'll destroy your bushes.
