Hi all.

Just completed an engine conversion on a RWD cedric using a 4WD Cedric RB25DET half cut.

I've converted the transmission to RWD by pulling the front driveshaft and blocking up the high pressure line that would normally run to the actuators above the diff. As the half cut did not come with any actuators, ecu, rear end wiring loom or the res for the atessa system, i would have thought the ECU should cope with out it. Now the ABS light is on constantly.

Does anyone know what needs to be shorted/looped or removed in order to have ABS working but ATESSA not? Keep in mind that the original body loom has remained intact and only the engine harness has been replaced.

Another issue is that I have wired up the automatic plugs to the appropriate wires in the vehicle loom according to the half cuts loom. The POWER mode light now flashes occasionally.

The auto box changes from Park - Reverse - Neutral - Drive and all the lights work on the dash, but it does not change gear at all. Put it in Drive and it will act like its stuck in one gear.

Any help would be appreciated. Apart from these 2 issues my conversion is complete and im very happy with its progress.

the abs ecu is the attessa ecu aswell...

the solution is in the plug, it has a stitch in it that is closed when unplugged.

so your original car had abs? im not familiar with the cedric and how it is wired..

yes my original car had ABS and all the chassis and ABS loom has not changed. I have simply added the engine, transmission, ECU and loom and adapted the 2 automatic plugs into the chassis loom for the automatic to work properly. The cedric has a VDU like the Series 2 stagea's so when it powers up, the ABS error comes up on the screen as well as the light on the dash.

If the ATESSA ECU is the ABS ECU and i am missing the ATESSA ECU, maybe ABS is actually working but the ATESSA is obviously not causing the error to come up on the screen.

Strange issue and i think i might be the 1st to ever encounter it. ;)

Abs ecu will need signals from engine ecu - tacho & speed.

Engine loom should have wires spliced already if abs was fitted in half cut.

Simply match up wires to body loom.

Abs relays (above abs pump) also play up esp if playing in that area.

Also check LH front abs sensor is plugged in - sometimes wires run in engine loom.

    • I found the same with Subaru’s.  I own and love the SG9 Forester, after that model 2008+, Subaru threw the ugly stick at all their line up and somehow managed to make them look worse with every succeeding year.  lol
    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility   
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
