Yeh, I loved that R33! Even before Russ bought it I used to pine over its build up that was on the net. Then when i saw it in the classified I used to again pine over it. Was working in Indonesia at the time and kep thinking, "how many months do i need to work in a fark hole to be able to afford it?" LOL, its the same thing 8 years later but now i am in India :)

Cheaper then the R32 sounds encouraging :)

well... if superlap did anything for motorsport in aus... its inspired everyone to get cracking on their cars... which can only make it bigger and bigger...

Yeh, but thats like when you post up about a track day 8 weeks before the event. 6 weeks before the event you have 30 people coming. On the day you end up with 10 people. So this pumping people up to build/finish their cars. Odds are they would have been finished if they had the time and cash. LOL, you suck if you have both of those already but not the motivation

yeh true... but are those people pulling out because the cars they entered are their road cars and daily drivers??

what is wrong with people?? i cant wait to get to some track days!!! im all excited just thinking about getting out there... and my cars not even hit the 50% completion mark yet...

why do people pull out?? surely there couldnt be anything more fun or important to do.. important stuff is best left for nerds.

Don't sell the 33 Russ, finish and enter it for me to drive in Targa next year as an "RGM I've got more grunt than you so suck my bawlls" limited edition?

News coverage gauranteed, excellent for sponsors! Nothing better than a car flying through the trees backwards at a specatator point. On fire.

thats a classic mate! i can just see you setting a farmers crop on fire too!!

the coverage would be a sure thing!

in that vid of the r33 chasing down the porsche, thats an 800 odd horespower gt2 than Buce Hibbard owns and drives , awsome car & crazy man!!

I was wondering how the hell the 33 wasn't pulling past it on the straights... it gobbled the GT3 and 35 like they were on a warm up lap but couldn't quite get the GT2... 800hp would explain it!

bit of a late post from me I've been out of action for a week.

firstly, well done to Ian and the guys. great event and like Russ said every bit as good as the Hyper Rev events in Japan. maybe even better?

A huge thankyou to all the international guys that came. it's a huge effort for the guys from the states and from japan to come and compete in a foreign country and they did themselves proud.

Congrats to Cyber Evo, Sierra Sierra and Tomei/Cusco on grabbing the top 3 outright places. their times were just amazing.

Well done to everyone who competed everyone I saw was well behaved and did our country proud.

I'm of course very proud of Mark and Russ and all the RGM/Hi Octane/Advan guys. We had so many dramas and spent days getting parts and rebuilding stuff and it was a miricale we got to Saturday with 2 workings cars and even more amazing that both ran Personal best times and we got the target time of 1:34 in the 34. Great work. Russ in the 32 kicked ass too in a car that was using my borrowed suspension, no aero and having just suffered a big crash and engine failure in the weeks leading up to the event. well done mate.

a couple of points to clear up:

Both less than 470hp atw.

the tomei cusco car is around that, the cyber evo makes a fair whack more.

Well fact is Cyber made 475 awhp on Friday night at 1.2 bar. They ran it at 1.6 on Saturday to set that time. So 600 would be closer?

Interestingly we compared a bit of data with some other teams and one fun fact was Berry's car was 20klm/h up on Sierra car at the end of the straight. Shows how

much downforce/drag that SS car has!

Cyber car weighs 1125, and creates 1250lg of dowforce. Yes, you read that right. They said under that car is really something special!

:-))

a few small corrections (you are forgiven as you are probably still hungover!).

I helped cyber evo with tuning their car on friday night (put the car on the trailer for them and translated between their tuner and the dyno operator). like you said the track is huge! when I was putting it onto mark's black trailer I was shocked at how much wider it is than either the 32 or the 34. it took us about 6 goes to get it on and there was half a bees dick each side...

the car make 475hp at all 4 wheels on 2 bar boost (not 1.2) and they usually run anything up to 2.7 bar on HKS Drag Fuel (they were running elf which was limiting how much boost they could run). on saturday they wound it up to 2.4 bar. I've no idea what it makes at 2.4bar but I'd say at least 550hp at all 4. they said on the dynapack hub dyno they use in japan it makes "over 600ps" at all 4 hubs at 2.7bar boost.

the downforce thing is pretty right. talking to their engineer (akaike) he told me that at Fuji Speedway the car hits 290km/h. Voltex (who make the aero) have measured the downforce and at 290km/h it produces more downforce than the cars weight (weight is 1140kg) over 1200kg of downforce so like he said you could drive it upside down if you wanted. pretty cool.

that's incorrect the head did have larger valves and was provided by notars racing and the car actually made more power than it ever has just an FYI

as above I'm not sure where you got that info from. I was there when the car was tuned and run on the dyno and spoke to the tuner and engineer of the Cyber Evo team and it was making over 115hp less than usual at that point but no one was suggesting it was due to the head. they seemed to think that for the boost it was running the power was about on par with before. obviously it was way down on usual power mainly due to the fuel type and the boost level they ran.

It was a bit of a pissoff that they didnt have time to do the one lap shoot out.

I would have preferred the drift puppys lose their spot rather than the shoot out.

100% agree with that. My main criticism of the event was not enough on track time for pro-class. the thing is people come to see the pro cars run and they invest the most money to be there they deserve more track time. especially since the nature of the cars and the tyres mean they can only do 1 or 2 hot laps per 15min session. I would have liked to see the drift time cut way down and have at least 1 or 2 more pro class sessions on the saturday. maybe 1 more session and 1 'shoot-out'.

Looks good with the Advan signage! Was thinking about the brake dramas you were having. Perhaps you need to run drum brakes. :( So no more PPG?

Which remings me, it looks like the Cyber Evo runs std Mitsu Brembos! If thats the case, I am gutted. :( Whats the point of having an uber car if you dnt have 20k worth of braking hardware off an Indycar or something... :/

russ has a good handle on the brakes now and a few tips learnt on trying to eliminate the pad knock off problems that GTRs with big brakes are notorious for. and yeah the PPG is gone, the 32 now has sequential hollinger same as the 34. and yes you are right, the Cyber Evo runs standard mitsubishi EVO brembo calipers! pretty amazing. it also runs a standard radiator and it has a H pattern PPG box...

keen to understand a bit more about the tips that the japanese advan guy gave any teams about getting the best out of the A050.

Tyre pressures?

Seeing a lot of teams scrubed them in and then came in again and re-adjusted the pressures.

not so much pressures, more on how to manage the 'grip window' that the super soft tyres offer and making the most of it to get that quick lap.

for those wondering how cyber evo and the like are so fast like a few guys have mentioned it's mainly in the aero. they have beautiful voltex made aero which gives them masses of downforce which gives that car amazing corner speed.

I made some good friends in the cyber team and they were very open with info. amazingly their car is a fair whack slower in terminal speed than mark's R34 down the straight but has much higher apex speed at turn 1.

comparing the two cars it's easy to see where the time is. the weight difference is not huge, though the 34 is heavier. the 34 has more power but the evo has some very trick aero and of course has been developed over many years. they are the two areas. aero and development time. the 34 is still a very new car and really only ironing out teething problems up to this point. from now the real development can begin! the evo also has much wider track than the 34 (not for long though!!!).

don't worry though Russ and I have already talked about options for serious aero development for the 34. like he said though it's super costly but at this point everything is!

I am still shocked by how fast the Cyber car ended up going. 1:30 is crazy fast at eastern creek. a big credit to their team. :)

Its a bit of a double edged sword in many ways.

Whilst its fantastic to see these cars in action it also brings home the reality that without mega budgets and access to knowledge the average Joe can never aspire to the dizzy heights we witnessed last weekend.

yeah. I do think we need more time for pro class cars though. they are what the crowd want to see and having just 3 short session on the saturday means really only 3 hot laps per car. if you fark one then you are really under the gun. you need a bit more running to fine tune things etc.

here is why the cyber car is so fast.....

one day I'd love to have a pic like that with berry's 34 in it.... :)

Do the pro guys want more time though Baron. there were several sessions when there were no cars or only 1 or 2 at best during the pro sessions.

yeah all the pro guys I spoke to would have liked more sessions available to them. if the cars are running they will have them on the track. I promise any time a pro car missed a session it was due to problems, not just waiting it out or sandbagging etc. with the big gap on saturday from session 2 to session 3 it made it hard to get the car really dialled in for that last gasp attempt. 1 more session would have been nice. it's a pretty minor criticism though and one that's easily fixed if need be. apart from that the event was awesome. :)

Werent they there for 2 days prior doing their dialling in ?

    • He obviously had his reason for flipping you off. I wonder what it was...
    • Thats why I stay far, far away from Eastwood. only go there if I wanna eat Korean food
    • I have to agree like, yesterday, I was driving down the warringah freeway towards the bridge when this jackass driving a beaten up Honda civic cut me off so suddenly it made me almost yank the wheel to avoid him hitting my car. Honestly and he had the NERVE to flip me off (or some other gesture Idk). Im a calm guy, but really some people just dont deserve to have a license, let alone be allowed to drive on densely populated roads/highways. If youre gonna cut through lanes at least use the damn turn signal
    • HPA do an interesting video on tuning, and Adrian shows on the dyno, moving from 10:1 to 12:1 (And I think even 13:1) and the power moves SFA. However, a couple of degrees of timing has a HUGE impact. Exhaust side of things will more be the length of the exhaust and how many bends and turns you have. The straighter you can keep it, the better. By a lot. Oh, and getting the diameter right. Bigger isn't always better. Going to big can actually lose you power.
    • I have to say, most people I see on the road fit the bill of atrocious drivers. Whether they be cowboys in their dual cabs, bogans in the Commodores, or the soccer mums. Pretty much most people on the road put zero freaking thought into driving. Barely look further up the road then the end of their bonnet, and have never even thought about how catastrophically wrong shit can go, by doing what they all deem as normal driving. Especially their late braking, racing to stopped lights, and sitting half a foot off the bumper of the car in front at 110km/h. Wanna know what's even better? By the time their kids get to be old enough to learn to drive, they've already got in the back of their brain what is normal driving, how annoyed you're allowed to get at people etc, and then their parents who actually have zero freaking skill at driving (Even though they constantly say "I've been driving for 20 years and never had an accident!") teach the little twerps how to drive, or should I say, how to make a car move. Literally watched a parent teach their L Plater, on a 4 lane freeway, that you just slam the brakes on, and push your way over, even with a B Double bearing down on you, and that's how you should drive, rather then, just keep going to the next exit. Same shit happens all the time for side streets etc, watching numpties pull dumb shit turns pushing across 3 lanes of traffic, rather than just go up the road another 30 seconds, and take the next turn that'll get you to the same location... Oh, and the damn right lane bandits. Or the retards driving along with their headphones in, and can't hear the ambulance or fire truck right up their ass about to run them over...   Pretty much, people drive on the road, like ego centric f**ks, and don't actually think how dumb shit their driving is, how it could easily kill them or someone else in a split second, or at the very least, how they're driving is contributing to all the shit they're bitching about on the road, like shitty congestion!
