what gearbox do you plan to use?

i would jump on nissansilvia forums (when it works), create an account. go into member rides and looking for a rb25 s14. similar, car, considering it was sr20 at the start as well.

Put an sr20 in it, best thing for it. Done all manner of rb conversions into 180sx's up to S15's and honestly the SR20 is the best option. We have a 430rwkw RB26 in our s13 and i wish it was a 2.3l SR20..... RB's and S-series chassis means POOR weight distribution and all manner of other issues.

thanks trent, but has i am wrecking my r33, i thought i could just use the running gear from it and put it into a 180sx, it will just be a daily driver, so it will be kept fairly stock once the conversion is done

you need to use the lower cross member, (i prefer to use r32 x-member and r32 engine mounts) and matching mounts, massage the firewall / tunnel to fit the box in, section the front rad support to be able to fit clutch fan (most reliable way) Front facing plenum makes the bonnet shut and allow a strut brace. the rest is pretty simple other than wiring as the R33 sources power from inside the car whereas the s13 power supply is behind the lh headlight. Its not a wiring job for a novice but its fairly easy if you understand the circuits. We used to combine both rb25det and s13 harnesses to make it a full plug in operation, but now i don't do any conversions as its too time consuming.

I have a rb25det conversion dvd that was sent to me as a sample many years ago, ive never seen it but your more than welcome to drop in with a blank dvd and ill burn a copy.

omg that would help me out heaps, i will drop by this week

i actually spoke to cat about getting everything done by you, but you guys are too busy, which is fully understandable

could you give a rough idea on how much it would cost just for labour drive in drive out?

Weight distribution can be dealt with aswell as the cooling issues... I say go for it power to wieght FTW!

I'm helping my mate get a 25 into silvia in the next couple of weeks when he has finished getting parts

Handling can definatley dealt with but not fixed, having 3/4'sof the engine in front of the front axle centreline is probably the WORST mod imaginable... :)

For the cost of a RB25 conversion one could build a SR23 that will exceed both torque and power of a rb25..

In this case he already has both cars so it wont be as expensive.

    • I definitely agree with you there - I never click on content for cars I would never ever be able to get or compete with/against/be seen next to. Seeing a MX5 compete with a FD RX7 will make people upset though, for sure. Even in 2.5L Turbo form which is pretty grass roots. (or at least as grass roots as classic cars can be) Yes we're all classic car owners now.
    • Wonder what the cause is, but here's hoping it's nothing too serious.
    • People don't always want builds that are overly expensive, or have engineering/registration/insurance issues and head aches that come with them Whilst big dollar builds, and complicated stuff is interesting to watch, there is only a tiny % of people who would actually use this information, or have the spare finances to drop on said builds, whereas the buy a cheap(ish) cool car, and make it better, with a average budget, that the average Joe or Jane could achieve will always be a winner in my opinion
    • Bit of a thread revival, you mentioned wanting a bit more top end before, do you regret not going with the 1.01?
    • It's kind of interesting - They definitely do builds that split the difference between what they like and what will generate views and engagement. The NC Platform always surprises everyone in a good way, in an uncomfortably good way some may say. They could throw a LS in there and arguably have the best (and best performing) car of the entire stable. But that isn't necessarily what draws views, because people viewing don't want to accept the vegetables of a LS NC MX5 being a superior vehicle in every way (including fun) than a RB26 240Z. This is also why there's not a lot of content about the GR Yaris (on the web in general). They're too good, yet 'only a Yaris' The community doesn't want certain cars to be as good as they are - to beat their hero cars, and I believe the NC MX5 is absolutely one of those cars.
