Don't get caught out by buzz words and flashy marketing.. The PE belts do have Kavlar in them but look at where it is. To start with Kevlar is also known as Aramid. The main component of a timing belt that prevents stretch is the tensile cords. They are glass fiber like the majority of belts on the market, not Kevlar. The Kevlar in the PE timing belts is in the tooth jacket, that's it. I can't see any great differences to the Gates Racing ones or any other 'up market' belt.

As for the Micro-V belts again, the Kevlar is just actually fibers mixed into the EPDM undercord compound. Companies have been doing this for years and it is nothing new. The tensile cords are polyester just like the majority of belts out there.

Just to put this into a bit of perspective PE look to have been around since the late 1990's. Gates have been making belts since the early 1900's and are the largest non-tyre manufacturer in the world. They are also the largest automotive original equipment supplier.

LOL flashy marketing is where GATES fit in...............................................and we're not talking Timing Belts.

Your last comment may also be pointless as it is likely the Gates & PE belts come from the one manufacturer, so one of them is re-branding.

I've also cancelled my order, not because I don't believe them to be superior but coloured belts tend to look very ordinary after a few months.

I should point out that I don't recieve an benefits from selling or promoting Gates Auto products so please don't think that I am rubbishing the PE products to promote Gates or anything similar. I haven't actually used or seen the PE products before. I know that Gates would not be purchasing a auto belt from an external company, it would always be the other way around.

I know it wasn't about timing belts but they were mentioned on the same page as the Micro-V belst so figured it was worth pointing out a few things. I meant to be more educational than picking on a particular brand etc.

i always found gates belts to be ok , they do promote their stuff heavily , i also would like to point out their finish is sometimes just average

also sometimes they will list same parts numbers as Nissan in length but they are not so its mix and match all time

that's why i recommended Nissan oem

Fair point, if there is a wrong number then let whoever you bought it off or Gates know as they won't know unless they get feedback. You can imagine how many aftermarket parts there are to take care of over the number of makes, models and years of vehicles out there. Imports also make it that little more difficult to get the info on as they won't have as much local knowledge to fall back on.

i did and gates have not been much help either.

they pretty much said that's what we have listed and they can sell me next size up or down which is too big or to small

do you work for gates?

its not that hard the jap belts have all pk numbers like gates but its that gates dont have right sizes

i know there's heaps of numbers but they just dont have the right sizes for our cars that's why i have advised to go Nissan get right stuff and be happy

just went to nissan at liverpool today said they can provide both belts at $124 but they will not fit them to V's nor will they touch the car because there to afraid of something going wrong since its an import

and just wanting to make sure the belt sizes im looking at are 6PK1175 & 4PK940 correct?? and they will fit the V's 100% correctly and without any problems?

I'm not surprised by that price. Here's what I suggest, get in touch with your local Auto One or Auto Pro and buy the belts from them instead of Nissan.

According to the Bando USA site for the Infiniti G35 (2003 model) the belt sizes are 6PK1185 and alternator and 4PK930 but they don't specify the engine model to be 100% sure that we're talking about the same motor (and hence, same accessories).

If the belt sizes you've quoted came from the Nissan dealership, then order those ones from your local auto parts shop. My personal recommendation though is that in terms of brands, you should only go Bando or Gates. I remember going through 2 alternator belts in 3 months from some rubbish brand called Roband (Danish made) which I bought from Robbos and will never buy again. Once I replaced the belt with a Bando, it was absolutely reliable. I should've stuck to Bando and Gates since that's all I used for over a decade anyway. I just went to Robbos because it was late on a Saturday on both occasions.

+1 for Bando or Gates.

OEM belt sizes are 6PK1175 & 4PK945. You can +/- 5mm but 6PK1185 (+10mm) might be out of the adjustment range of the tensioner.

I agree with Mark, 6PK1175 & 4PK945 are OEM sizes, as am in middle of oil & filter change right now and just looked up to belts and both numbers were facing me conveniently. Looking at my adjusters I would not recommend going more than 5mm under/over those sizes. My belts have done 53000km and while not badly cracked are just starting to show signs so will replace soon.

my Nissan dealer will definitely fit it onto my car if I ever need one.

I mean c'mon they're all VQ35DE engine same as 350z.

whereabouts you live, sounds like your local Nissan dealer dunno nothing about cars unless they're tiida/pulsar.

For everyones information, just to let people know, there is a way of getting the gates racing belts for our cars.

The a/c belt (4PK945R) is no problem available from any Super Cheap store as a special order in product. Cost me $44.99 last week in Brisbane and took about three days. Coincidentally it also fits TR,TS Magnas with 3.0Litre v6 motor.

The power steering belt (6PK1175R) was more problematic. After a number of calls and emails to Gates in Melbourne I managed to find out (as many of you would already know from earlier in this thread) that you cant buy this belt directly in Aust. However if you contact a Gates distributer/retailer such as Repco or CBC and describe the belt by its US part number K060465RB they can order you one through Gates Australia. I was quoted $AUS59 plus $AUS16.50 freight. Unfortunately this will take about 12-14 weeks as this delivery charge only gets you ship transport. I found one for $US48 online from tothelimitmotorsportz.com plus a USPS Priority mail International shipping cost of$US37.20. All up about $AUS94 and delivery in 6-10 days according to the USPS site.

Be warned if contemplating an order that Repco told me there is a shortage of these p/s belts in the US at the moment so stock may be very limited.

If you want OEM, don't use 4PK945R & 6PK1175R

These are belt numbers and don't come up on Nissan dealership's part list.

You need to use:

4PK945R - use Nissan part# AY14N-4092E for '01-Jan'03 V35 350GT, or use AY14N-4094E for all 250GT, 300GT, and Jan'03 onwards 350GT

6PK1175R - use Nissan part# AY140-61175 for all

anyone know the part number for the idler/tensioner pulley's for the V35? ..is it generally a good idea to replace these when doing the belts?

There's quite a few pulleys and tensioners.

Which one is it among the diagram below?

wow didnt realise there were that many tensioners to replace

guess it'll be just a matter of taking out the belts and then spinning the tensioners to see if they need replacing.

just thought it would be a good idea to do them all at once with the belts to save labour cost.

    • Thanks again, really helpful chap from alpha omega wanted to speak to me, little concerned if this is meant to he aero alloy/ airospace quality and car sitting on drive has caused this.  Airplane are subject to much more changing temp and conditions than road salts! My caliper, many other components much older have surface rust but never eating part of the metal   Had I not seen it , could have been a disaster! specifically on rear part of bracket coming off like biscuit will update on what they say, helpful people so far

    • The MX5 has had some annoying rattles in both front doors over bumps So I installed fancy pants door bushings, which stopped all of the rattles with the windows up, but........with the windows down there was still rattles, so after some googling,  and a chat with MX5 Mania, I got some new door to glass weather seals, all the rattles, windows up, or down, are gone now Shout out to MX5 Mania, the weather seals were on sale, and when I head to Dural to pick the up they even fitted them for me for free I did see a "really" nice Blue NA sitting out front   and this Black NC PRHT that looked like it has sat in the sun for its whole life and never had a wash, the clear coat was non-existent, an it looked horrible, really horrible, but, it had a nice turbo kit with over 200kw, the thing went like a cut snake, bagging the rears through the gears and dosing like a champ 😍 But, as I've always stated, I am keeping my NC na, I'm happy with the current power the car makes In other news: MX5 Mania do a drive in drive out turbo kit, the only minor additional part recommended for boosting my car, as it sits now, is a oil cooler, and that bonnet vents are definitely required for track use Aftermarket version look a bit to "racecar" spec I wonder how Focus RS bonnet vents would look?????
    • Paint is only structural when applied to the outside of Chinese and Indian cars. Otherwise it should never be present between mechanical joints that were intended to be metal to metal. Pain slips, slides, cracks, compresses, and add thickness that wasn't intended to be there. It comes firmly under the category of "just no".
