just picked my car from the mechanic and he tells me that i have a cracked piston and rings, the car has been playing up for a little while. I was pretty sure it was on it's way out. now I know.

the question now is do i rebuild it (what cost are rebuilds worth), or get a second hand motor.

i am not trying to get the most powerful car out just want a car the has a bit of go there when i want it, Any advice would be great on this.

just a stock rebuild then.

1k motor in/out, then 2k for the rest. New pistons all round, bearings, whatever machining might be required, gaskets etc etc.

You also didnt mention what injectors or ecu you are using, if they are standard upgrade both and with a tune you might see closer to 250 depending on the turbo you have.

Im not up with how strong the auto's are but at that level you also be pushing the limit of the standard auto i assume.

Pushing that much power with an auto I would be looking at picking up a shift kit and after market converter... My stock gearbox lasted a couple of days even with a shift kit running 240rwkw. I put another standard box in thinking the previous one may have been a bit tired, and this one died a day later also lol. Killed drive and reverse which apparently work off the same clutches.

If you are keen on getting this gear, let me know. I pretty much have a brand new converter (3000rpm) and shift kit I would let you have rediculously cheap just to get it out of my house haha. If not keen on second hand gear, speak to Mike at MV automatics.
