I remember a mate of mine that had a dyno shop ran tests comparing no air filter, to aftermarket panel filters and the traditional pod filters and saw next to no difference amongst all three methods.

What you will get though will be a more consistent and cooler air going into the engine especially on those hot days. Remembering though that manufacturers spend hundreds of thousands of dollars designing these air boxes to be as efficient as possible.

Those eBay power chips are an excellent way to blow your engine up haha. The official power chip was pretty decent, allowing you to adjust your ignition timing at much more accurate intervals compared to just rotating your distributor.

Even their values have been overrated

got a masssssive 5kw increase with cai lol, that was on myold 33 n/a (dyno results)

use to have just a poddy surrounded by heat shield, but had no air feed.

so went to wreckers got a vn commodore intake pipe (L-shape), drilled hole under poddy, stuck it in there with longer end running to my front bar and presto, did notice difference in throttle response, but very minimal.

better off with decent air panel filter and custom snorkle.
