Hello all,

For anyone who is thinking about modding their car, I would seriously consider engine management before you start. Last night I learned just how valuable a good ECU can be.

J-Spec Imports got me a standard ECU that has been chipped by Access in Japan. The mods on the car it came out of were almost identical to mine, bar FMIC, so I decided to give it a shot. I could not believe the difference. Boost comes on stronger, redline is achieved quicker, any misfire problems I had are now gone, and even the exhaust note sounds better! "Snapping" 2nd gear now allows the car to go major sideways as well, something I could only previously do in the wet! :aroused: It is by far the best mod I've done!

Get Engine Management People!!!

Yeah I forgot to mention the best part.... $150!

Mods this chip is for:

*Full 3" zorst

*FMIC (I've got the stocker)

*Pod Filter (I've got a panel in stock box)

*Bleed valve @ 12psi (I'm running about 10-11psi)

The only major difference is the FMIC. Even so, my car now feels HEAPS stronger/quicker.

do you reckon it would matter if i ran it with a stock intercoller and only at stock boost witha 3" zorst and a pod?

what about the fuel differences does that have any effect do ya reckon?... i would have thought that if it was tuned to jap fuel then i would be running to rich etc.... ??? i honestly have no idea though so fill me in :)

DJ984: With my VERY brief experience I would say you'd be OK provided its a stock ECU.... but best ask a tuner who knows what their taking about.

Drivebai: I was in the right place at the right time. Its not just a chip, its a whole replacement stock ECU that has previously been chipped. I got it through the guys at J-Spec Imports. One of their clients upgraded to a PFC (I think) and wanted to get rid of the old one cheap so I snapped it up :)

better get everything checked on the dyno coz jap ecu's are tuned for better fuel than u can find in australia. Even the base tune that comes with the power fc is danderious to run with proper tune

The guy who had it before me used it here in oz so I should be right. I'm going to BMT on satdi anyway :(

Just in case anyone is still interested I had the car on the dyno on the weekend and made 153rwkw@13psi. Thats up from 140@11psi.

The fuel map is pretty rich, only marginally leaner than stock, however the ignition timing is HEAPS better hence the increase in responsivness and mid range acceleration. The ignition timing has allowed me to run more boost which is sweet coz before anything over 11psi would cause severe misfire.

Better fuel economy as well. I got 460km to this tank, and I was punchin it :) I usually get around 400-430km if givin it a beating.
