Hey guys, wondering if anyone here has any experience having their car valued?

I've just finished a big Z32 rebuild and am shopping for insurance. Even Shannons fall around $15k short of what I'm after....

I have receipts for well in excess of the agreed value I'm chasing, and LSV say they will insure it to my price if I can provide a valuation from a certified valuer. A licensed dealer won't cut it, got to be a valuer.

Has anyone gone through this before? Must be some guys on here with in excess of six figures spend on their cars, what do you do for insurance?

only experience i know of is my dads merc but it was with AAMI, He got insurance valued at $170k, but with all the custom work from the factory the delivery cost was above $200k, AAMI gave a valuation at $170k on the spot, but now he has to take it to an AAMI valuation centre to get the agreed level up to cover everything on the car. We havent done it yet but they garantee to give the price to cover everything aslong as its a traceable extra/modification. Meaning it was installed by the factory and there is a paper trail, or you have reciepts for the work thats been done to it.

Are you including labour in the agreed value your after because i dont think they cover labour cost in an insurance valuation.

i'll let you know when i find out more

... Hi ... try Famous Car Insurance on 1300886029 ... they have a special division for modded imports ... if you can substaniate the

cars replacement value with receipts & photos they will most likely insure it at an "agreed" value ... just bear in mind the more you

go for the higher your premium & excess may be ... hope this helps ... :P ...

Thanks for replies so far guys.

Nar, I'm going for a very conservative figure.... probably the cost of parts for the rebuild rather than a "start over" price.

VALUATION CERTIFICATE

I hereby certify this shining example of a Nissan 300ZX with the rebuilt VG30DETT engine with lots of fruit as having a value of

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm $93,264 give or take 8 grand (depending on whether there's still white powder in the running boards).

The owner Robert Sidaway has no priors or outstanding warrants; nor has he had his licence suspended.

This certificate has the genuine authenticity of a real fake.

Disclaimer: Despite being a Justice of The Peace, I have no formal qualifications to justify such a valuation.

Objectivity has no bearing on the above valuation. It just looks good & it goes like the clappers.

Hi have you had any luck finding a certified valuer, as I would like to have my car valued.

BTW - I've been insured with LSV for 4 years and they have been nothing but excellent.

Thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

So I got the valuation back, VIP did a great job and came back with a "replacement value" figure that was very realistic, and a "market value" that was in line with the $50k I want to insure for.

I forwarded this to LSV who have unfortunately recanted on their offer to insure for the appraised figure, and have now come back with an offer of $25k agreed value??? What a joke.

So in summary

VIP= fantastic service and thoroughly recommended

Lumley Special Vehicles= Complete dickheads

Back to square one for me....

Man that sux, I thought they'd already agreed on about 75% (without valuation) of what you were after, now you've got the valuation their offering about 50%? doesn't make sense.

Looks like it would be a waste for me to get a valuation, as long as I'm with LSV.

Yeah...

Basically I got a quote emailed to me at $50k agreed value, and the fine print says that the maximum payout will be at market value until I provide pictures etc so that they can confirm $50k agreed value. I sent pictures etc to the rep via email and he phones me to say the most they will agree to pay is $35k, but will go to the $50k if I can get a certified valuation that puts the vehicle at $50k.

VIP wrote me up a nice valuation putting market value at $48500 to $50500, and replacement value in excess of $70k.

I emailed this valuation to LSV last night, and they called me this morning to say that the manager had gone over everything and that he "knows alot about imports" and the very most the will agree to insure for is $25k. So in short 1)the manager is a complete idiot and 2)I have been royally f**ked around by LSV. They certianly won't be getting any business from me and I will be warning others to stay away.

TBH no matter what you spend on a car..

1. you'll never get it back

2. you'll never insure a car for what you have spent.

3. imports arent worth much anyway no matter what you have spent.

example - my r33, I bought for 15k 4 years ago STOCK. I spent close to 15k on it. After insurance inspection it was insured for 17k.

I sold it May this year for 12k.

Hate to say it but the guy at LSV is prob right by saying a 300xz heavily modified is 25k tops.

Sorry Rob..

For all of the coin i have thrown at my car, i could only get it insured for the replacement value of $17500.

Which is a bit of a joke, but atleast im covered if i crash into a Ferrari which throws me into a house lol

I hear what you're saying, but I have a valuation from a certified, licensed, practising valuer that puts market value at $48,500 to $50,500... so the guy on the phone is talking out his arse. Also very hard for anyone to put a value on this kind of car as they are so rarely traded.

The last comparable car that I know of being traded was this one that sold for $35k and yes mine is a huge step up.

At the $50k figure I'm after it's a lonoooooooong way from what I've spent!

But regardless my frustration with LSV is not that they won't insure for $50k but that I have a written quote with a $50k agreed value that they have renegged on after I have spent the time and money meeting their conditions.
