Hey Guys,

My self being a Supra owner I need some advice regarding the R33 GTS-T. My wife is looking at buying a 93 R33 GTS 5 speed. The car`s appearance is spotless. Has 19 inch rims, new intercooler & a fairly good stereo & exhaust. The car is just about to reach the 150,000 Kilometres. This is a few Ks I know. But what are the R33 engines generally like? Is this way to many Ks for these motors? How strong are these motors? How many Ks on general can you get out of these motors before you have to start spending coin to keep em running another 150,000ks? Any information would be a grate help. the asking price is $11,500.00

Cheers guys

it depends on the service and abuse history. If it has been looked after (not hammered against the limiter every weekend, serviced every 5,000k's) then it should be good to go. Get it leak and compression tested, the compression test will give you an insight to the engines health.

how many is too many threads :P lol

as damo said depends on how its been treated n such. i bought my gtr sitting on 127ish and now got 168ish and it hasnt caused me any real drama's.

sounds like a fair price for the car to me but i havnt really been watching r33's on the tradingpost, too busy with old zeds :P get the compression test for sure though

Price is a bit high for the amount of K's I think...

But I've heard of RB25's lasting way past 200,000k's. They just need proper care, regular services, etc.

Maybe check the service history of the car, too? That'd give a good indication to what condition it's in.

^^ yeah hammering is fine but oil changes MUST be every 5000km's, MUST, emphasis on the must

Mine got to around 205000 before spinning a bearing due to not changing oil every 5000 so if previous owner says it had regular oil changes actually ask how many km's apart

Wow! And here I am worried about just hitting the 80k mark on my GTR! Ha!

Not an RB25, but a RB20, I have service history from BRAND NEW, its now got 165k and the motor is going in the bin. I do think this is abnormal though because as said Ive heard of them going way past 200k. A fresher motor is usually only $1000 away though..

Definately get a compression test first.

yeah quit being so soft :P every car ive owned has been over 100k's

be nice to your car and it shall do the same inkind to you :) although engine rebuilds are a good time for mods i hear :P

Can't really say it's abnormal. You can't garuntee that every single RB20 ever made will last past 200,000k's... it all depends on it's life, service history, driver of the car, etc.

A RB20 running on 20psi doing skids all day every day and bouncing off the limiter will barely make it to 200,000k's...

One that was daily driven to work, running stock boost should though..

Totally agree with the top line.

Hey Guys,

Thanks a load for your advice. I am having troubles replying. The page keeps asking me if i want to set a poll up. Must be the settings on theis dam work computer. I will get a full car inspection done by the RAA hear. it`s only 215 clams.

Watch out for the RAA inspection. They sometimes put a red light against cars with a modded exhaust, intercooler, etc.

Most of the time they have no idea what half the parts are on the car, so they just write it off with a red light.

Just look at the notes they put down.

I have as RB30 engine with over 475,000k on it, unopened except waterpump, timing belt, pulleys and rocker gasket and it runs smoother then my RB25DET

aways used synth oil both once broken in.

RB25DET is like a glass engine compared to a 2J

its not miles that kill it its , overrev, lack of maint, too much boost. a NA car would last for a long long time

run a turbo car lean, kaboom

dont change the oil, kaboom, or turbo melt down

but RB25 are cheap as chips these days so if the price is right go for it ???? plus we have so many sources for parts now, not a drama

dont fark with RAA , get a compression test, and a body shop to look it over for big damages and shonky repairs.

worn bushings are a big one for high K cars too...

My r33 has over 170K and i still never misses a beat, it's a N/A tho. Oil always changed at 5,000km, and used as a daily. Never had any problems with the engine (have owned the car for nearly 2 years), a crack in the gearbox from previous owner over tightening the plug, but thats it.

Yeah mine was daily driven boosted hard on factory turbo and boosted hard on high flow

i think im testement to rb25 being pretty strong and if i hadn't nearly run it out of oil on 2 occasions then it would still be going Luke can vouch for this 1 oil change we pulled out 1.5lt of oil :P

skylines are meant to be driven hard not hardly driven

as with any imports you can never be 100% sure (unless it has cronic log books)

its a pretty easy task to replace the odo or wind it back

take each car on its merits, how well its been looked after, lack of rust, general wear etc etc

that and the bang bang puter, had to of upset the bearings
