that and the bang bang puter, had to of upset the bearings

no i dont think knock was only ever 30 odd at bang bang, it was definitely already damaged before then

What type/brands of oil are getting ditched at 5000Kms?

i used to use Nulon fully synthetic a lot of people go for motul

its to do with synthetic oils passing by the rings and burning out your exhaust so when people say "oh it doenst burn oil' there mislead

i used to think the same 10000 is fine with synthetic but better safe than sorry

there is also a better reason but i cant explain it as good as i was told it :P but thats the gist of it

The reason I ask is, in the time I did 10,000 Kms I didn't need to top up the oil level at all. When I drained it, it was of course dirty coloured but certainly didn't look contaminated (ODO now reads 119K and I've never had it past 5.5-6K RPM).

A few people I spoke to suggested using Motul 8100 or 300V and changing at 10,000 simply because the oil is of a much higher specification than that used in 1995 when the engine fired up for the first time in the Nissan plant. I don't really know, this is my first turbo car!

keep in mind that 2 things stuff up oil....fuel & heat.....hence why regular changes in summer are handy not to mention tired motors need the oil dumped more often cause of fuel by-passing old rings

EDIT: and as Adrian said, peeps that boost more than others need to be more regular also (because of greater fuel by-pass under boost)

One that was daily driven to work, running stock boost should though..

My 20 only lived to about 105,000 before she died. Car was pretty much stock. Sometimes they just die young :P

I use fully synthetic and change it at 10,000, is there any particular reason why RB's need changing at 5000?

I thought it was for the turbo's. Turbos aren't supposed to like contaminated oil, wears out the bearings sooner.

And here's another I heard, that all these "race quality oils" we use dont have any detergents in them and cook mega easy because they are designed only to be used for say one trackday and then be thrown away...

We need oil Mythbusters :D

Chad, I guess mine fared a little better than yours then :P
