The last fun day for the year will be held on the 13th of December, a Sunday, so for anyone looking for some very cheap track time put this on your calendar.

This is an 80% circuit event (drive too hard or recklessly and you will be black flagged). You will be cutting laps of the track and having fun and remember this is not a race and people driving as such will be black flagged - I know from experience 0_0

I'll be there in the SlowVia for some fun and to give the missus a bit of track time, who else is going?

For those who've never been before I'll throw up a few quick points.

- There is no timing

- There are quite a few cars on the track at any one time

- There will DEFINITELY be some idiots with no idea about driving on or off the track attending this event

- There will be passenger sessions in which a roll cage is not required (I have confirmed this with Winton)

- Sessions are around 30mins and alternate between driver only and passengers

- Learners/Kids get a session over lunch where they can circulate behind a safety car

- It's crazy cheap at around $30 and there are no race licensing requirements.

- Your car will have to pass scrutineering, bringing a bomb for fun will not impress officials.

That covers some of the common questions, you can hit the FAQ's at the Winton site HERE

Hope to see you all there.

Kez... fastest reply in the west!

You didn't answer my FB query about how you did it and what it actually was etc.

Yeah, my mate who f**ked the car is on FB. Part of the deals was "I pay for it, you never mention it again". Think he's embarrassed.

The smoke coming from the hood was most definitely the clutch, what was once a nice bright pink clutch no less than 4 weeks before this incident is now pretty much black. Huge chunks of the clutch pad had been removed and it was pretty much gone.

First and second gear were a mess of mashed metal and the whole thing had been completely cooked. Dunno what temperature this gearbox reached, but they mechanic claimed they were pulling out masses of "fluff" from the clutch pad.

Mechanics theory: my mate may have been slamming the car into gear and not giving the syncos a chance to work.

It's difficult to know, because my mate claims he did nothing at all. Yet he offered straight off the bat to pay for everything, which leads me to suspect he feels guilty about something. Only thing certain is that in the 15-20min he had the car he royally f**ked it.

Wow, super gay, that's some "mate" you have there =\ At least he's willing to pay the damages.

I should be there. Gotta atleast make one day this year. I wonder if i can make it all the way to the venue before breaking something this time?

lol Go for it! Make sure you come say hey btw.

hmmm thinking about it...never been to winton

Do it!

god damn - this is really tempting me!!!!! i want to take my car to the track again!

See above

i'll be skiing up that way over that weekend so i might come and do a few laps, weather permitting.

Sif choose skiing over Motorsport... :P

How long is a piece of string? lol

Seriously though I can't answer that question and neither can Winton as you can pretty much turn up on the day and have a go.

To be honest though, these fun days are the busiest Winton track days of the year as they do not require racing licenses and are open to the general public.

As I mentioned above, there will definitely be plenty of people and some of those will not be as aware as others when on the track as it can be a daunting experience especially for first timers.

As with any form of motorsport there are risks to yourself and the car and you will be hard up to get any insurance to cover you while on the track so keep that in mind.

Now, having said all that... You can do a lot to avoid any incidents by driving safely, being alert and treating every other car on the track like it's loaded with plastic explosives, works for me :D

    • I did not go to GTR Festival. It's quite a long drive and the car wasn't dialed in yet. I also wanted to see how the racing portion went before going. From what I can tell the classes were not heads up, index, or bracket - just whoever has the quickest ET wins. Never heard of that sort of thing before and maybe some people like it but it's not my cup of tea. I don't suspect I'll go if that is how the racing is done. I did get the car out three times and had issues each time. Some were my error - haven't raced the car in over two years - and others were parts. Had trouble getting the clutch to slip correctly and remembering how it was set up in the Haltech. Broke some drivetrain parts as well that couldn't be fixed in a couple days to get back out. Season definitely didn't end the way I wanted but at least the bearings are still fine! Not a fleck of material in the filter. Really hoping next year is the year I can actually test this car properly.
    • find it funny everyone claims different fuel chains, do different things with their fuel blah blah blah. We don't have that many fuel terminals in Australia. The fuel tanker trucks drive into the terminal, fill up, and drive directly to the service station and dump out. The majority of fuel you get, is coming out of the same terminals. The variation is actually at the individual service stations and how good their tanks are, as well as how much turn over they actually have. Older fuel stations, that haven't had their tanks replaced are going to end up with the worst fuel. Also a lot of older stations have shit design, and shit maintenance, and end up with more water absorption into the tank. This is when you then get a bad batch of fuel. Other shit things happen, like tanker drivers have a f**k up, and starting to unload the wrong compartment on their truck into the wrong tank.
    • Yeah go with that one
    • This one?? In other news: I cannot tell the difference between my red MX5 with the silver grey hard top......... and the Ferrari 599XX EVO, they might as well be twins, well.......apart from the big wang hanging off the back of the Ferrari...🤔🤣, without the wing they are identical
