Congrats man, looks like a great car. I just got back to Bris from a 6000 km trip to Sydney, melb (yes, I did the Great Ocean road - I have NEVER had so much fun!!!) and back via the snowy mountains. I have driven a lot of cars, and the V-Spec GTR IS the best thing I have ever driven!!!

About the parts, it is not the complinacers that have the drama, they are being terrorised by DOTARS and inspected monthly to ensure they are following the overly excessive requirements to be met as a RAW. If they step over the line by a bee's dick, they have their RAWS approval suspended until further review. Considering the costs to get the approval (wrecking a perfectly good car, paying huge fee's etc, repaeating the process for each model) they have a lot to loose.

DOTARs require the car to "be in a condition as when purchased from the dealer" which means EVERYTHING needs to be stock. Eventhough most after market parts exceed the performance of the stock ones. The car needs to be in stock trim in every possible way when it reaches the RAW - including original wheels, BOV, exhaust, seats, Air filter & box, brakes, pads, suspension... EVERYTHING!!!

I have some original parts from mine if you need them, so drop me an email if you need ([email protected]) as I import a few cars a year. I have two R33 GTRs here as well as a GTST. Not a dealer, but I lived in Japan and worked in the industry for a while - so I have some good contacts, and thus get cars at the right price and are inspected in Japan.

So, if you are going to have a shot at anyone, give the government a REALLY hard time as they are being nazi's about grey imports. They have actually told some of the RAWs that I know, that eventually, they want to completely stop grey imports!!! hence, the value of our beloved skylines are increasing. My GTR's cost about $6500 to comply, so add this to the cost of the car...

Oh, and for the 15 year rule that some of you may have heard of - it will most likely be increased to 20 years in the future (so I have heard from a few good sources...) Who wants a 20 year old car??? Not many people.

If anyone has any questions about the import process, drop me an email.

Hope this helps!!! :(

Cheers mate, I had almost forgotten I was getting a new car, it seems to be taking sooo long. It gets loaded onto the ship in 4 days so it getting closer. I know what you mean about compliance it so tuff now on being completely standard. Luckily mine only has a cat-back exhaust and different steering wheel and gear knob, all pretty easy to change. All the compliance workshops in Brisbane and Gold Coast quoted between $6000 and $7500 to comply the GTR (plus tyres). The only thing I really don't want to do is the standard tyres on the standard rims. I just picked up a set of 18"x9.5" BBS rims and I want to use them for road and keep the standard rims for track work, so I don't want to put new road tyres on them, know any way around this? I don't want to buy the R-spec tyres just yet either as I am starting to creep over budjet as it is. Can I use someone elses tyres or do they have to be new? Haven't asked the compliancers this yet.

no probs.

Unfortunately, they have to be brand new, aust .... (wank wank) tyres. DOTARs make the rules... Totally shit, but the RAW needs to have a receipt for new parts WHEN (not if) they are audited.

Tell me that you already have your Import approval!!! If you don't have it, you may be in for some troubles... Officially you need to have import approval thru the RAW before the car leaves Japan, other with you risk it being either destroyed or re exported at your cost. If you are lucky, you will be able to store it for up to 10 days before being exported at a cost of about $60 per day.

Also, if you have parts in the car (inner cargo) don't expect it to be there when it gets here as the last 3 cars I imported have had parts stolen (the last one had a HKS GT2535 stolen !! aarrgghh!!! cost me $2500!!! Now it is gone and not likely to be insured... Next time I will use a full container. More expensive, but worth the security.

Anyway, good luck and I know how you feel!! The next 2 weeks will feel like an eternity!!!

PS, more than likely that your complier will have serious delays - you will be lucky to get it within 4 weeks from when you take it to the workshop... Sorry for that, but better I tell you than you get really pissed off...

GL :(

Yeah, I have already got import approval, not bringing anything else in with the car (that I am aware of). Everything is currently getting stockpiled in my room. Looks very cool!

Looking forward to another 4 week extension!!!! Do you have any good/positive news?

looks like the next time i wave at ya along coro drv, you will be in the GTRRrrrrr eh ....

You's drive along corro drive often? I drive it every day, around 7:50 in the morning and around 5:05 - 5:15 in the afternoons..

Not long now jl. You've got more patience than me :(

Yeah, I live about 10min walk from the RE so I do frequent Corro Drv quite abit. During work hours you are more likely to see me cruising in the big yellow Gemini Van. I have past a few SAU members in the Gem and they never seem to recognise me, I wonder why??

Patience is wearing very thin. I want it now!!!

i live in indooroopilly so whenever i'm going down to the city or hitting the highway, coro drv is the only way to go... and the occasional milton road....

sounds like you are competing with the peak hours traffic eh, Erin.

btw, we met briefly before... i was in the black r32 when you pull up next to me at the traffic lights just outside Roma station last thursday... think you were with your bf... we greeted each other.

Well, the wait continues. My car somehow managed to miss its ship. It should leave on the 30th of Jan now and arrive in Oz on the 12th Feb. Not too happy about that situation but what can you do. It almost seems like it will never turn up. On a brighter note, my 18"x9.5" BBS rims turned up today. I am hoping they will look the goods on the GTR, what do you guys think? I original plan was to get a set of Bronze Volk TE37s but these came up at a good price so I bit the bullet and got them. Certainly cost me less then a new set of Volks!

edit: plus a pic of some other goodies I have collected over the last couple of months. The car better turn up soon, the wait is sending me broke!

Yeah slip, that is the plan. It won't be quite that simple though as the BBS rims are a larger diameter than the stock GTR rims but I think I have the solution. I definately wanted two sets of rims this time, one for road one for track, as the last tyres on the GTST only lasted 10months and that was only 2 trips to the track. NOT COOL.

So do you have all the other parts you need??? Let me know if you need parts... Have suspension and airbox here as well as other assorted goodies for other GTRs... I have a spare black one here too!!!! ;p

Usually, delays are inevitable. Always happens... All in all, expect another 6 weeks before you are driving it... email me if you want more info.

Thx

Because of the weather I didn't work today (its either too hot or too wet lately), which enabled me to get my first glimpse of my car. Even got to drive it from the carpark into the workshop cause it was pissing down. I am definately excited now. Its been a long time now (2months & 2 weeks) but to see it in the flesh definately makes it more real. I have included a few pics that I took while I was there (excuse the bonnet as its not closed). It is very tidy, it needs a good detail as all imports do when they arrive, but other than that it is very near perfect. Apart from the lower lip on the front bar, myself and the compliancer couldn't even pick a scratch. No marks/scratches on the interior, still got the original GTR floor mats in perfect condition. Even the plastics in the boot are unmarked. The underside of the car looks new also with that nice satin black finish on all the suspension bits and the all important active diff bits. All the origainal rims are perfect bar one that has a small scuff on it. I am super keen now!

Thought I would include a few pics of the rims after they were machine polished. I am so happy with the results, they came up like brand new. And a couple of pics of other good bits I have managed to pick up along the way.
