Car Being Cased?

Maybe Im being paranoid but Im starting to worry about my car being broken into or stolen.

In the past month theres been a hyundai getz full of 7ft maoris pull up and stare at my house and car before tearing off one wheel squealing, a white R34 pull up also to look at my car and finally last night at a bit past midnite what I assume was a stolen dark coloured R33 pulled up with a guy shining a torch on my car. I noticed this while watching a movie and quickly ran outside, the r33 reversed flatout nearly leaving his bumper on my curb before crunching it into first and speeding off, could hear him bouncing off the limiter before crunching into 2nd and today I found a broken r33 doorhandle there as well (from the other car not mine). I can only garage my car 50% of the time and it has an alarm, the cars nothing special either just a stock 33 s1 gtst with maybe $300 of audio gear and a nobrand turbotimer. I do live on a busy street though

Is there anything else I can do or should do to protect my car?

its old school, ghetto and been done, but its cheap. Depends on you confidence in DIY but it may give you a lot of peace of mind. Get any old switch from dick smith or one you might have around, find one of your igniton wires and mount the switch in-line with one of the wires. hide it up under your dash somewhere it cant be seen and leave the switch off if you park it outside. To start your car obviously youll have to to flick the switch to on.

As i said, quite ghetto but its another line of defence if youre really worried. My dad told me this idea as he did it to his tarmac rally Mini Cooper S back in the day and sure it enough it was stolen, but he found it two blocks away down the hill and round the corner cos they couldnt work out how to start it.

Your car may or may not be being cased, but maybe thisll let you sleep at 4 am instead of posting on SAU

take a wheel off... or just the steering wheel.

pain in the ass but it makes the car a bitch to drive.

maybe find a way of locking the throttle body in place (havent looked at mine in a bit... wonder if a padlock somewhere could make it a sod to deal with).

All in all... if they want the contents.. they'll get it... but if you make it an arse to move they probably wont bother unless its worth a flatbed truck.

weld a boss onto the fuel tank below the 1/4 tank mark, screw a spark plug into it and wire it up to the battery via an old coil. Just make sure you NEVER run it below 1/4 of a tank of fuel

I met a guy years ago who did this because his merc kept getting stolen. Blew the shit out of 4 guys in Durban in South Africa and then promptly emigrated to WA

Get one of those trackers that alerts your mobile your car has been stolen and it can navigate where the car is.

Its been mentioned heaps of times on these forums have a search for it. There was a group buy for them.

thanks for the replies, I dont really have much money to spare so I'll probably get an ignition/fuel cut switch installed, my dad thinks it should be quite easy to do and said he has done it on his own vehicles in the past

The fuel tank suggestion seems a bit extreme haha specially with my mystery fuel guage that drops from full to empty in 100kms

I do have 3rd party fire+theft however I really wouldn't like to have the car stolen as the stupid women that did my insurance told me "r33s are worth 6.5k at most" according to redbook and I have a 3k excess so the payout would be a grand total of 3.5k woohoo.. nearly enough for me to go on boostcruising and buy a VL

If you are home most/all the time the car is there, chances are they won't be able to do it easily...garaged is piece of mind but they may try to break into the house for the keys anyway. Don't want to make you more paranoid though but that's what people everywhere have to consider.

My car isn't visible from the street, but isn't completely enclosed either. One property of my neighbors has a few people living there, and a lot of the time (midweek or weekend), they carry on partying until whatever time they feel like. I can actually hear some chick yelling randomly now...FML

But anyway, my mum was out the back late one night a couple of weeks ago just watering some plants, and when she got near the fence there was a guy standing on a chair looking over our fence. When my mum was like wtf he asked some random question, but he was obviously wanting to know what's in our backyard, and because that involves my car if I catch one of them having a look over or even trying jumping in I would go ballistic!

Just got home from work today and dad said there was a "white hyundai getz with about 6 maoris in it" pulled up in the driveway that took off when they saw him. Pretty much 100% sure now that they were there for my car

It probably wasn't 6 maoris lol but last time I saw it there were 5 big maoris packed in the hyundai like sardines

put a seat cover loosely over the top of the driver's seat, and underneath, place a few thumb tacks.

and obviously remember to take off the seat cover and tacks

but seriously, take a part off your car thats crucial for it's running every night if your stressed (the switch in the ignition wires is a great one, ive got that myself!), and if your worry is the contents, take everything with you!

man there are some pricks out there, trust me, my car's been broken into 4 times...

Silly thought but you say that it is garaged 50% of the time?? Can it get garaged more then that?

Another good thing to disconnect is the afm plug (quick and easy to do). You could always pull that but try to leave it looking connected. If they can get into the car to steal it then they can pop the engine bay so it cant look odvious. Although to be casing the place so often then flying off, by the sound of this then they dont sound very smart about what they are doing.

If theres 5 of them packed into a car, running out in the PJ's to stop them probably isnt the greatest idea in the world either unless your packing heat. Which in this country still isnt the greatest idea in the world.

Disconnect the starter motor and take some relays out.

If they want to open the bonnet and try and work it out, the alarm will sound even louder, and it'll be a little hard for them to concentrate.

Just take something little. Fuses can be replaced so don't bother with those, most thieves aren't going to bring along assorted Nissan relays just incase one is missing.

They're unlikely to have a battery or steering wheel. As an added immobilization on my daily, the ignition wires go through my CD player and take the face out when I leave the car. No face on the CD player - no start. You can run it through any accessory, or put a switch in a tight gap their giant hands can't fit.

Connect up the live wire for air bags to another live in the steering collumn - try and hotwire the car = broken nose.

Love the fuel tank / spark plug idea, I've heard that somewhere before, f**kin gold
