Just realised they ran the bimmer in 3rd. Why not 4th? Its a 5 speed and has tiptronic so it would hold gears....

Because auto cars have a 1:1 ratio in 3rd gear.. As opposed to manual cars in 4th.

5-speed automatic ZF 5 HP 24 EH.

Ratios ( r : 1):

Ratio : 1

Top Speed @ 6,000 RPM

1st 3.57 39 MPH

2nd 2.20 63 MPH

3rd 1.51 92 MPH

4th 1.00 139 MPH

5th 0.83 155 MPH @ 5,500 RPM*

The manual is a 6 speed, so 5th is required for 1:1.

Dyno is about right with 500+rwhp in a 10sec car.

Sounds like the guys at Autoworx did a good job.

So we come to the conclusion Hypers n Advans dynos are out 150+ hp :( , what MPH should we be running if the 500 hp is right ???

134/137MPH. Jeffs 480rwhp 10.4 was at 136mph. Most 10sec V8s I do are from 450 to 500rwhp running GTR weight.

Really big HP Turbo cars are often slower because you need large Turbos etc giving way to much Lag needing dedicated Gearbox's etc.

Your GTR running 10s and also working well on a race track would be a very smart 500rwhp (Board power curve) with 2 people in the car.

Huge topend power does not make for a fast car, Fat Power / Torque curves do.

I chose 3rd because I wanted a roller speed between 120 and 180km/hr, in accordance with standard shoot-out proceedure. There's more to it than gearbox ratio - it's overall final drive that matters.

The GTR of the Bart only made 518hp because it was blowing the tyres off. Big deal. I ran the car in 4WD first up and it made good numbers at all 4. The dyno wasnt down. The car wasnt down. 540 or whatever it made at all corners is damn respectable, and backs up the time slips. The low figure in RWD was an issue of coupling one to the other. Do we have any other AWD dyno figures to compare it to?

They probably thought it had 1:1 in 3rd, I doubt they dyno many Beemers.

Levi, fantastic pics mate! I'll have to have a chat with you next time, grab a few tips off you! Can I grab a higher resolution picture of my car?

No problem, always happy to talk cameras.
