Hi guys,

I'm looking to purchase a new set of rims purely for track use and obviously want to put some semis on them. I just wanted to get some feedback on whether it's better to get semis that are all the same size of if going staggered (just wider on the back) is okay.

I understand that if they're all the same then you get the benefit of being able to swap wheels front to back. How much extra life could you potentially get when being able to rotate them? If it's that significant I might have to rethink my choice in wheels as the ones I'm looking at are wider on the rears.

Any feedback is much appreciated! Unfortunately I haven't had the luxury of running semis at track days yet so I'm really unsure as to how they're wear.

Cheers,

David

I have always used the same size front and rear.

When I had my r33 I just had standard r33 wheels with 225/50/16 R888's

I was running -4 camber up front so I had a bit more wear than other people, they are a directional, however you can still put them on the other side as its mainly for water dispursement. I do the same with my MX5 now for wear and tear.

What tyres/wheels you looking to get David?

Hi Chris,

I'm looking at some TE37's. 17x8 +33 front, 17x9 +40 on the rear. I have the standard R33 GTR wheels on it at the moment for track days. Trouble with them is that they're 9" wide and with anything more than about -1.5 to -2 degrees camber I have clearance issues on the front. They've been fine till now but I'm not going to slap semi's on them if I know I can't run more camber.

As for tyres.. not sure yet but I did have RE55's in mind. How much more life are you getting out of the tyres by rotating them? 1 or 2 tracks days?

Yeah I reckon rotating tyres front to back will get you 1-2 more days, and if you can swap them side to side as well maybe 1 more day. All depends on which tracks you go to, alignment settings etc etc.

so....bridgestone re55 are asymetric (can't swap sides) which makes dunlop dz03 the best bet. But dunlop know this and they tyres are veeeery expensive.

BTW gtr/gtst/whatever, in my experience they always run out of front grip first. So get the biggest tyre you can on the front, then match up the rear. If you are getting power oversteer out of corners.....that is the driver's job to fix :P
