Hi i have a 2000 R34 Non Turbo.

I had a basic service completed last week. I drove it home 150kms without a problem.

But the next day, the engine malfunction light came on and my car is shaking/shuddering.

It has been doing this each time i warm my car up.

I have been told by a few people it could be sparkplugs.

I dont want to drive my car back to mechanic and was wanting peoples opinion on the problem?

Mad082 - i will check my coil pack, i assume i will be able to find instuctions how to on a forum...

Moodles2 - thats the problem, im not sure exactly what they did in the service. I asked for a basic service so im assuming it was only the basics, i know they didnt change the sparkplugs as they were long life.

I have taken my car into RACV today to have it tested on the computer and 2 codes came back.

They were: Ignition Primary Code Auto and Transmission Manuel Mode Swith Code

They erased the codes, however it has made no difference to car.

Could it be sparkplugs? Can i please have other opinions?

My engine light would come up every now and again when one of my coil packs was dieing it was hardly noticeable, miss fired for a split second and then when back to normal, gradually getting worse. I got them all replaced and now a few months later it started doing it again constantly so i got new spark plugs but it didn't help at all, so i tried an injector cleaner (even after nissan had checked it and couldn't find a problem with the car) and now its running pretty sweet. Must be some shit petrol around at the moment, iv always used premium fuel so I'm guessing that water has gotten into my petrol tank or into the tanks at the petrol station?

I have since had my car tested on a DYNO and have been told it is a the crank angle sensor.

I have to wait until Feb to get one unless i pay $1000 through nissan.

2 questions!!! please help!

1 - does anyone know where in melb/vic i can get a crank angle sensor?

2 - is it an easy job to change the sensor? what needs to be done after changing? (do u need to tune it etc?)

Ring around wreckers to see if you can find one. Theres a link in the Victoria section for wreckers.

You should have the car tuned with a new crank angle sensor installed, preferably on a dyno which will give you both maximum economy and power. If you dont want the expense, just set the base timing with a timing light.

Its very easy to change the crank angle sensor but if you tighten it up in the wrong spot, it could destroy your motor after a few minutes of driving. One millimeter forward or back of where it is could cause detonantion, or pinging.

you would have to have an engine on it's last legs to let go due to a few mins of driving with detonation. plenty of people have driven round for months or even years with the engine pinging it's arse off due to being too lean from blocked fuel filters or dodgy fuel pumps.

So pinging is OK?

You're right it's unlikely to destroy itself immediately. Either is driving on a flat tyre. Both are undesirable and lead to expensive and serious damage.

no i'm not saying it's ok, i'm just saying that it isn't a "OMG my engine is going to blow up and kill me and destroy the world" type of situation. hell, a large amount of pinging goes undetected as it isn't audible inside the cabin. and anyone with a stock ecu (or a nistune) shouldn't be overly concerned as the factory ecu will back off the timing if it hears it, providing the knock sensors are working properly.

Just look on ebay or wherever, it's pretty easy to find splitfire or yellow jacket coil packs to replace your *insert car model here*
