Well iv been around the sau scene for awhile now and iv always had a place in my heart for the rb and skylines. long story short i went to a dealer today on parramatta road called cosmopolitan cars that one of our family friends recommended since he had bought a mitsu delica and had no problems and the car was in good conditions. anyways i got there today and saw this r33 series 2 mspec for $16 grand. the car sounds good and is very clean and the only things done to it is a boost controller and a turbo timer and some 18 inch advanti rims. the car is a genuie one with all the stickers still on it in the engine bay and they said to us that they only look for genuine cars and that they had the log book to prove the kms on it and so on. now the only problem i have with it at the moment is that its turbo and i cant drive it so im going to look into changing it to non turbo because its in good condition and id rather have the good condition turbo that i can turn into non turbo rather then the non turbo that i have to sell to buy the turbo. i am quite new to the skyline world but i have been looking around on the forums and reading alot about skylines. id appreciate it if people would just give me some info they might have based on what iv said and im also after anyones opinion on the car dealership if they are good , shonky etc. also i will be getting the car pre inspected upon purchase with a comp test done also

Thanks Costa

nah massive hassel to start taking turbos off and what not, but $16k for a fresh r33 series 2 is alittle steep, I got mine 2 years ago @ a better price than that, 1996 series 2, fresh as anything, had 64k on the odometer, floor mats, only cat back and pod filter at the time. everything was/is in prestine condition except ive now chaged the front bar, added some bolt onns, i'm about to do 100k service 7k early just for piece of mind, putting new split fire coils, just put new tyres, and i wouldnt be looking for $16k lol. The market isn't there for them, i put mine up a month ago at $14k when i was thinking of selling mine and didnt even get one ask even though i put near offer.... no one is buying them at the moment, quite hard to move, get the car yard to drop allot or dont get it, just sounds like its in fresh condition, but that price is too high

In my opinion that would be a huge waste of time and money, just wait till your on your blacks, by a cheap runabout if you need a car then sell it and use that money for a brake/suspension upgrade(or NOS, LOL)

My 2 cents

looked at the car, seeing whats out there, and ive just been active in the scene, i wouldn't give it more than $13500-$14000 maximum.

Used car Dealers warante isn't worth the paper its written on so dont base your decision on that, legally they only give 3 month standard (by law), they will still weasel their way out of it because they'll always be able to find evidence of abuse, especially on a 96 gtst from japan.

If i was determined to spend 16K on a r33 (which i wouldn't), i would want it already modded with the usuals (no more to spend) or something alitle different like a 40th aniversary version

But for that money i'd go for this one, 98 R34 2 door, GTT, semi auto though.... Even though the pics are crap the thing looks clean, i'd remove that ugly spiler though lol.

oh and i'm not telling you what to buy, i'm just showing you what i think are some better options for the same amount of money, things i would be looking for....

but honestly i wouldnt bother taking the turbo out of them, get something else then save up for the year or whatever you have left and then get something better....

dont be stiupid mate lol,

if you spend 16k on this car, then turn it into non-turbo then turn it back when you can drive a turboed car, the money you would waste you could buy a very clean GT-R. i was going to turbo my EF Falcon before i got my R33 they quoted me 16k for a rebuild that could handle 300-350Rwk, but if i did that i would throw away most of that on the resale.so i spent 6k + my EF and got what i have. trust me i'm glad i waited. :( Very happy.

My point, like it has been stated above, buy a run around and save your money.

since we know the people they are willing to drop the price down to $14000 with 12 months rego and its coming with 4 new tyres. my next step is to take a look at how much it will cost to make it non turbo for the 2 years. if its deep to change it ill just hold off but its going to be hard to hold off because driving it was just so good

So you want to spend $16k + extras (2-4k) for a non turbo 33???? Ahhh p platers and their crazy ideas

not really so much on the p plater bit but i just love the skylines. uncle got me into them when he had his 32. i rang my mechanic up he said its going to cost 1.5 grand all up for the conversion with the labour and shit im just rethinking this but seeing as this skylines really in good condition and all skylines out there aint going to get better in the years to come im thinking about it...

16K ... way to steep

I bought mine 4 weeks ago, its in good nick bar, a couple of little scratches in the paint, 2 small holes in the bottom of the center console, and a split in the extractors ( all of which I new b4 I bought)

its TYPE M Series 2(01/97), 3"turbo back,pod,boost controler(manual job),MOMO,ABS and a few other little bits

I paid $6500 (not a typo), yeah motivated seller (actually there's a lesson there... run ya credit card up enough and you have to sell ya baby)

actually I'll sell ya mine for 15k :) :) thats a grand off

seriously I'd say more like 10-12K these days, mind you the dealer probably paid half that.... (seen one localy for 20K, talk bout dreamn)

PS last owner of mine was offered 3k as a trade, now thats just rude...

another 2 cents

cheers

1.5k for an engine conversion.....that still probably wont be legal for you to drive....P platers cant drive modified cars...an engine swap that isnt a direct replacement is a modification...removing a turbo is a modification etc etc...my advice is buy a Getz and wait till skylines are worth what most 15year old cars should be worth...i.e Nada.

If you want your Skyline thrills now, just buy a non-turbo one and save your money in the mean time until you are legally allowed to drive a turbo-charged one. An R32 GTS or GTS25, an R33 GTS or GTS4, or an R34 GT are all options.

Seriously, a factory non-turbo car will run better than a turbocharged one with the turbo and associated hardware removed, because the non-turbo car will be built and tuned to run without it (higher compression ratio, different ECU mapping, etc.).

yeah i was looking at a r34 gt before but as the yrs go on skylines are getting more kms put on them and in worse condition i just hope i find the right one when i get off these damn ps. i know it is a waste of money to do the non turbo conversion then turbo it again but this liner is in very good condition and the engine sounds good aswell and only has 2 mods the boost controller and turbo timer. i mean if it only had them mods and no others that were removed prior to the car being sold into aus it must of had a good owner and theres proof thats visible to me that it was kept in good cond

I would try and stretch for a V35 4 door (yes... Cassbo and his crazy V35 4 door ideas :))

Pros

P plater legal

VQ35DE is more powerful than a RB25DET

VQ35DE is better on fuel than a RB25DET

Generally in better condition

Come come with some pretty cool factory options (dual zone climate control, BOSE sound system, leather seats to mention some)

Younger cars

Cons

Some people think it looks like a Maxima

Cheapest ones have CVT which are a little pricey to maintain and epicly expensive if the gearbox were to break.

Still doesn't have cruise control

If I was on my Ps and had around $20,000 to spend on a car I would probably go for the above Skyline, a naturally aspirated Aristo or a GS300 / IS200. If you can't go performance spec, go luxury spec :)
