The RTA will still see it as a turbo car (IE, restricted) since it was turbo from factory.

IE, you still can't drive it.

IE, DON'T BOTHER!

this was not the case with my experience. :)

my girlfriend removed the turbo from her 33 gts-t and drove it for over 3 years with no worries from either a mechnical or legal perspective.

would i recommend going ahead with the process? no. we only did it because this was a few years ago and she got a great deal for the car - way under market value and the dealer organised all the removal of the turbo and tuning required - etc. all the removed parts were put in a box. we just had to pay the $700 for labour to put it back on when we were ready.

if you really want to go ahead with it - ask mark from hills motor sport about it. or james from hills is the mechanic who put the turbo back on.

hope this helps!

ah yeah i remember reading ur post about this on a thread awhile ago. do you know most of the parts that were needed to be removed so far i know the intake manifold the exhaust manifold it needs to be remapped and i forgot what else my mechanic had told me but he said it was around 2 grand in parts and he would do it for 1500 but from what i remember in the thread where you had posted you said it only cost a few hundread for the parts , also did the car run rich and was there any down sides to it?

Thanks Costa

also so everyone knows im getting the car from $15,990 down to $14,000 with 12 months rego and they said it was a m spec but im not 2 sure how to tell if its a m spec(not 2 sure if all imports do come with the free rego but im sure the dealers somehow add that to the price of the car when being sold)

Why cant you just find an example of a non-turbo which is just as clean and buy that instead?

It's like paying for Foxtel Premium and only watching free to air channels! Yeah you will watch the other channels in future, but why pay for the premium for two years before you use the channels?

Not to mention you will probably have different taste in two years time and will end up wanting to buy something newer anyway!

As someone else mentioned, you're paying $14,000 + Costs of removing hardware + Costs of replacing it to drive a non-turbo. I dont understand the logic?

M-spec I believe refers to a Nismo tuned R34 GT-R... if you found one of those for $16k I'd be telling you to snap that shit up before someone else does :)

If anything it is a Type M, but either all Series 2 GTS-ts are Type M or none of them are, AFAIK they are all the same unless you are talking about R32s or Series 1 R33s and even then it appears to be only differences to body kit

the way i see it is that theres not that many liners that are easy to find that are in good condition so i want to buy one in good condition even if i have to pay to non turbo it and then turbo it again rather then buying a non turbo one and driving it for 2 yrs then selling it to buy the turbo one. as the years go by the skyline arnt getting in better condition or with less kms there all getting kms put on them and all the good ones are the ones that are being bought and there isnt a endless ammount of good ones really. thats how i see it i might be wrong if so tell me

lol but what some of us have already said is in 2 years you should be able to pick up a v35 for the same price..... its true that the good examples of r33's are becomming more scarce, but the fact is theres still a huge amount of great examples, just not as many as there were 3 years ago...

Why don't you just get a good cond non turbo for now, then in 2 years and 4 months ish away you can pick up a V35 that would have a much better chance of being in better condition than most r33's, its faster, alot more comfortable, more fuel efficient, they come with leather, sat nav, tv's, traction controll (handy when your not wanting to atract cop attention in the wet), brembo brakes, should be a much more reliable car because it is at least 5 years younger ect ect ect....

At the end of the day its your money, but unless you LOVE the looks of the r33 over everything else, i cant see why you would get one, even 14K is too much for what that is, as i said before thats the prices of 2 years ago, and mine was in better cond (who knows what cond the turbo is in, who knows how much boost its been running on stock turbo?) All we are trying to do is give you alternative options so you don't end up regretting your choice later on...

I was like you, i rushed out and bought an r33 because i didnt want to wait an extra month to comfortably afford an r34gtt, i love the r33 but it looks alittle old, its plain, its 13 years old now, it doesnt look 13, but the r34's look alot younger than 11 and 10 years old, their interiors look nicer, alittle more power, rides allot better, little more fuel efficeient, newer ect.... if someone explained that to me when i was looking i would have gone for that... but atleast i picked a good one and had no probs with it....

i personally dont like the v35s i like the round lights. if i was to get somthing newer it would be a r34 gtt if anything but i prefer the r33. i think im going to go take a look at some non turbos and see how much the difference is in price to a non turbo and a turbo and make my choice and if i dont end up getting a 33 ill just get a vl or a r31 and just use that till i get off my ps and then go for the r33 or 34

Being serious though, I have been in your situation, and owned a non turbo 33 when i was on my red p's.. they are nice cars.

I don't believe people should be swaying you to get a different car.. if you like/want something, get it. You won't be happy unless you buy what you want.

Just be smart about it, and consider the following:

Re-sale value in 2 years and whatever many days you have when you get off your p's (if you don't put the turbo engine back in)

Insurance, rego, etc... i imagine if you are looking at 33's you have already considered this though. I know for a fact, even n/a 33's, its not cheap.

If I was in your situation, and you don't mind spending $12k or so, look at getting a n/a one for cheaper then what you are looking at now (save the headaches) and modify it to how YOU want it to look and be happy with it. Sell it when your finished and buy something newer (in 2 years you will more then likely have your eyes set on something else).

Honestly, save yourself the money, buy an N/A, and spend more time and money doing driver training and track days and improving YOURSELF first, then worry about getting a newer turbocharged car when you're older, more mature, it's more affordable for you, and it's actually LEGAL for you to drive it.

Like others have said, if you buy a turbocharged car and remove all the gear off it, it's still classed as a turbocharged and now also a modified car by the RTA and police because it was built as a turbocharged car from the factory, so essentially you're still not complying to the rules.

It seems like you're asking for advice, and then completely ignoring what advice is being given...

yeah im planning on doing advanced driving cources and also im not ignoring the advice im just trying to give the full picture of whats going on and also trying to put all the advice infront of me to see wat path im going down in the end. believe me i take in all the advice everyone gives seeing as a few have been in my place and can give me insight

All good!

I did two driver training days this year, and it's been something I'd been promising myself for YEARS now. I don't know why I waited so long - just be careful you don't get bitten by the track day bug (although that's not entirely a bad thing - better you get your high-speed thrills in the environment that's been built for it, rather than on the road)!

... if you really think its that good & you dont think youll find a better example in 2 years ... buy it at a good price ... dont drive it ... & in the meantime buy a $500 shitter ... in 2 years youve got the car you always wanted !! ... :D ...

yeah im looking forward to the driver training days because i want to be one step ahead of most people on the road and i want to know how to gain control easy when i lose control and all of that stuff. i think the government should incorporate some advanced driving courses into getting your license because i went to my uncles and aunts and my mum and saidto them do u know how to gain control of a car thats lost control and they had no idea. but yeah when i hoon around its always somewhere where no one is about and nowhere where i am in danger if somthing goes wrong. the local industrial area is good on weekends when theres no movement going on

ehh thats the thing i will most deffo find something better but why would i want to search if iv found the right one now and since i know the people at the dealership i know that i aint getting ripped off and ill do a inspection on it aswell. but the problem is it wont be staying in the garage i can guarantee u that and in the end itll cost me my licence and a 2 grand fine so im deffo staying clear of that. so im leaning towards a vl or a r1 skyline for another 2 years till i can get a turby then go for the dive

re voythie, i dont think thats the smartest thing you have said on this forum. There is NOWHERE in sydney that is safe enough to hoon around in on the streets and not have a risk of killing yourself or other drivers. Theres gutter, poles, buildings and other cars that you can hit. For your own safety and pocket (including criminal records) please don't do this.

I don't care if the execs get shitty at me for saying this, but if thats going to be your attitude, hooning around on the streets with no regard to public safty, i'll man up and say straight out that we don't want you to join this club or talk on the forum. We try very hard to change the publics view about our cars and about our club, and we don't need another hero giving the rest of us enthusiasts a bad name.

If you understand where i'm comming from (and really i dont care if you do or don't), then you can come back to sau and gain help from us if you need it, if you ignore me, then your not welcome here. Its for your safety not mine.
