So I attempted to take my car over this morning. R32 GTR.

Changes from standard other than replacement items (such as Garrett turbos etc): 17" wheels, a quiet exhaust and (not too low by any means) suspension. Inspection begins and they can't find anything at all that is not allowed, no leaks, all in good condition, everything working.

Then the little gem comes out. Adjustable suspension is not allowed. Either weld it up or change it back to factory, new rules for the ACT apparently! I mean WTF? LOL! It's not even height adjustable. So I'm thinking take it elsewhere (any PMs on this would be appreciated) or take it to NSW where they are far more reasonable.

Adjustable suspension MUST be engineered at the legal ride hight, you must also have a parker (white paint is fine) that marks the adjustable componants in place at the legal ride hight.

Also you must have at least 60% I believe of original travel in suspension regardless of any engineers certs.

Lastly, the new rules for height have changed to include eye brow height (Height from center of wheel to the top of the wheel arch), on my old r32 GTR that height meant my car looked like a 4x4, but that is whats required now.

Thanks RTA!

I went over not that long ago (when I got the R34) with Nismo adjustable suspension ;) I even told them I had it...

Chris S told me that exact thing Shell!

At least the ridiculous rules are consistent? Oh wait...

Wow. My car isn't even height adjustable. I hope I don't have to go through that. Sorry to hear mate.

they are like that.

they couldn't find anything wrong with my car so they got me for not having reflective enough brake lights (as in the reflectors in the brake lights).

I just love that kind of attitude. At least some cheap reflectors are easy to put on from Autobarn, LOL!

Adjustable suspension has been a no for at least 3 years, when I first went to have my car engineered. One of the first questions I was asked was "Do you have coilovers or any adjustable suspension?"

As soon as I said "yes but no" (My rear Bilsteins have a height adjustment, but were fitted to the R31 Silhouette GTS from factory), everything was alright.

I think the issue that will get you really stuck is if (really big if) the suspension can be adjusted below the minimum legal ride height.

Sometimes you'll get an inspector that will just give you a flat out no, one or two will actually be willing to let you explain what the go is first, then probably tell you no ;)

$5 worth of reflective tape stuck onto the brake lights got it passed but they made no difference to how reflective the lights were and meant i had to book in for a 2nd inspection at a later date (it was a COMPLETELY stock VS commodore all the way down to the factory tape deck and steel wheels with hub caps)

Ridiculous TiTAN! I'm so sick of the liberties being taken away and marginalisation of certain groups by Governments in this country. Down with socialism LOL!

Far out, what a joke. I mean what difference does it make when you actually apply some uncommon sense, any one can cut the springs in their car or take the muffler off but that doesn't make springs or exhausts illegal? You can go home and make your car illegal in about 15 mins if you really wanted, no matter how standard it was, no matter what parts were fitted at the inspection.

Funny thing is that my suspension isn't even height adjustable. It just has some other adjustable stuff that's been on it the whole time it's been registered here.

I can't send PM's at work coz our proxy blocks something during the process lol, but you can either head as far south as you can get in the ACT, or just search for my thread on this matter. The station I took my line to was very easy to deal with, no stuffing me around, and the only thing I got pulled up on was 5% window tint (to which I owe hr32gts for removing it for me) rofl...I had 3.5" turbo-back, pod filter, and large FMIC.

Hell, he didn't even charge for the reinspection.

Convinient due to temporary living arrangements in Banks? lol even say "Yeah thought I'd tee it up while I'm there visiting the family ***day for lunch, might as well"

lol does it matter anyways? even say you're in the process of moving to banks/conder/gordon

But yeah, I'm in Richardson and I was still like ugh...further south? whyyyy

Gotta love the guys at Kev’s in Fyshwick, they truly know how to do vehicle inspections.....NOT!

ACT rego is beyond a joke, so glad we only have to for through it once.

LOL how did you know?!

Agree, ACT rego is seriously ridiculous. This whole country goes very far with rules and regulations, general Government interference! If I can't go ACT I'll try NSW next.

hmm, I got told I needed an aussie language owners manual, but oddly enough they said nothing about my coilovers, this was when i was getting my defect cleared.

I have one of those. :D

Kaleen Service Centre were great with the NX and I've heard other good things about them too.

They were recommended to me yesterday too! I have it booked in, he seems like a good bloke, I got no attitude merely based off type of car which is a great (and rare!) start.

If this doesn't go well I'll be seriously thinking about giving NSW my rego money, I've done it before and I'm prepared to do it again!

He was a nice guy. He passed the NX no worries and even commented to me that it was a good little car for its age.

I don't thnk they care where you are since people are all over Canberra for work and what not.

Good bloke. He did a full inspection as he should, the car passed with an advice on sticky ignition switch LOL (I had a new GTR key cut at CLASS not too long ago and it's not a perfect fit LOL).

I will definitely be going back. Some old muscle there which is handy to know for me for things I don't want to do myself.

    • All I can say Duncan is good luck and I hope that Neil did not run any E85 in Cheryl. I have recently experienced the full spectrum of fuel tank issues in my R33's that had been caused by E85 and contaminated fuel. When you take the cover off the top of the tank and have a look inside you will get an understanding of how easy it will be. Best case situation is clean fuel with minimal contamination. My GTR was like this and it was a very simple operation to just grab the fuel pump carrier bracket and slide it up and out of the tank. My three GTS_T's had different levels of fuel contamination that was probably caused by E85 in the fuel.  In the worst case all of the metal components in the tank had rusted to the point where there were pieces of rusted metal swirling around in the tank. This required the removal of the exhaust, the tailshaft, the complete rear cradle and the fuel tank. The components in the tank were that rusted that it took days to get the fuel pump carrier and the mounting brackets out of the tank. When the tank was finally cleaned, everything inside the tank had to be replaced. With the tank all back together I could then reinstall it in the car along with everything else that had to come out. Good luck and I hope that you find a clean tank.
    • It is a two door. It is black and also still has the OEM wheels and stereo. Exact model would be KR_R32RGFEL_SS According to GTR-Registry.com is a 2 Door Coupe; RB20DE; 2WD no HICAS; MT.F5; (11L) Projector Headlamps and Fog Lights; (12_) Electronic Active Full Auto Air Con (Climate Control); (13-14SS) V Selection -- Which seems to be accurate description of my variant. Will try to upload a few pictures soon. The OEM wheels look like the below image. Image is taken from the goo-net-exchange website.

    • Welcome Gabriel. At least your car has a glorious RB and not the shitty CA18. As MBS206 mentioned all the good bits can be added later. Two doors or four?
    • And half of them have been converted to turbos.
