Someone's been searching themselves. :banana:

Actually at that price on the 5970 I could buy one and resell it here as second hand and still make $200. But nah the distributors aren't gouging at all.

We're just trying to get to know the community. Also, we sell rims because we are an automotive store too :) . We carry various automotive brands like HKS, Neuspeed, ABD Racing, and etc. Currently we are working on adding all the car parts to site, but it takes some time :banana: .

Welcome but remember - no business advertising unless you are a paying trader.

And unfortunately, we only accept Aus businesses.

Ahahah that's hardly a fkn welcome then! :P srs, wtf is he supposed to do?

No point anyway, the only person here dumb enough to buy a card that costly was me, and my gear was already bought and paid for when I started talking in this thread...

plus that card is still like 11 feet long.. and still no waterblocks.

Yeah that was wierd, I bought from the old site and then there were wheels. There aren't too many US retailers that will ship direct to Aus. I will PM you with other places you should be and you will reward me with free stuff because I like free stuff and occasionally think about my BloodRage that went in the bin and shed a single tear.

Hmm, perhaps Australian water cooling shops are a bit behind. We have Koolance 5970 blocks, EK 5970 blocks, and soon some XSPC blocks (have to add those to the site too :down: ).

To DivHunter: can't reply yet to PM's, thanks though for the suggestions. Quite a shame that the Bloodrage went into the bin. Very nice visual aesthetics and it is a great setup if you want to only use 12GB ram. Our test rigs use 6GB ram because it provides a very nice stable overclock and is still more than enough for the majority of 64 bit applications.

ok, almost crunch time and i haven't been chasing this up anywhere near enough.

Decided to go with i7 920 as i'm happy to pay extra because my budget is now around $2000 - $2200

so if i go i7 920, i take that these are the only mobo's i can choose from?

G-B EX58-UD3R or EX58-UD5

ASUS P6T or P6T-Deluxe

If so, that kinda makes things easier as i don't have to think about a zillion options.

So going from msy prices it's..

i7 920 = $359

mobo = ~$350

If i get one of the above mobo's, does that mean i should really get DDR3 ram? Or i should just buy that anyway?

RAM = ~$180 for 6GB (DDR3 1600)

I like the idea of SSD's, should i get 1 or 2?

SSD = ~$150 for 64GB (msy says 2.5" internal notebook though)

HDD = ~ $140 for 1TB

So far we're at $1170, roughly. Still need..

-Graphics Card

-Case

-Power Supply

How much for a good graphics card if i'm not gaming?

Which cases should i look at to house all this? Don't want clear windows or any of that stuff.

Never know, might be able to fit a workstation card in there :P budget has grown since original post.

Or i could get this

http://www.boxxtech.com/products/cf_step2....tal=UpdateTotal

:blink:

i7920

UD3R if budget it tight, UD5 if not. Compare on the gigabyte website for differences, not major.

DDR3 - Mobo won't run anything but DDR3

SSD - Yes, you need a 2.5 one that is NOT notebook, then adaptor to put it into a case

Case - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_p...oducts_id=11226

or http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_p...roducts_id=3770 (i used this recently in a friends build i did, nice and cheap and super quiet)

so -$170

Leaves $1000 left.

GPU - HD5870 - $550

PSU - Corsair HX650 - $180

Perhaps someone else might be able to reccomend a workstation card 550-700 as you have that to spend. Im not really up with that area or if they are better than current run of the mill ati/nvidia offerings

you mentioned you werent gaming,

31 nismoids selection on a graphics card is 'sumptous' sorry only word i could think of, I sooooooo want one, its an amazing card BUT if you arent into gaming you could prob save $100 - $200 and get the next one down the 5850 or even the 5770. both still nice cards and should do some nice things for you.

The money you save on that you could then prob go a step up in some of the motherboards 31nismoid suggested.

had a bit of a read over at cgsociety.org and the general consensus is that even an 'OK'/mid level gamer card will do just fine for 3D work. Unless i get a workstation card (which again, from reading over there don't seem to even make a huge difference now with the some of the high end gaming cards on offer) i probably could save some money on the graphics card, and maybe get more RAM.

There's talk of graphics cards being able to do real time rendering soon, but it's not really available yet, so until that happens, maybe i should just go for a middle of the road graphics card and maybe go 12gb ram instead of 6gb?

That case that you said is super quiet sounds like the ticket. I take it it doesn't have the blue lights unless you put them in yourself?

So i take it a 'mid tower' type case is going to suffice?

You wont need more than 6GB of ram surely?

The cheaper case does have faint blue LED lighting. It's not super bright.

The Lian case from what i gather doesnt have LED's if that is what you want.

mid tower case is fine, yes.

    • I've owned a few scooters over the years, a Vespa PX oil burner was my first scooter, followed by a few others, including a little 50cc BeeWee that I used as a barracks bike, and I've had a blast on all of them, they really are the cheapest for of city/suburb transport around The only issue with scooters in Australia is lots of people look down on them due to their size,  maybe they need a big bike to make up for something else where they are lacking, unlike Europe and Asia where every man an their dog owns one, and now that filtering is legal in NSW, local traffic is never a issue Not to say I haven't owned my share of big cc bikes over the years, but they were for more blasting through the hills or Hwy riding where it needed to sit on Hwy speeds Safety wise, I ride like everyone is always trying to kill me, everyone is running a red, or running stop/give way signs, or generally asleep at the wheel, which most people are duringtheir commute, I also ride really safe, and give myself, and everyone else enough room in case I need to pull some hasty evasive actions, I've done a few rider training days over the years, which has come in handy on more than a few occasions  As for mods, there's nothing really, and yes your right about aftermarket exhaust, all you get is loud and obnoxious noises from them, like every 250-300 cc you hear with a aftermarket muffler, in saying this I did put a rear muffler from a 125 Aprilla on one of my old 125 scooters, it was horrendous and no amount of full face helmet and ear plugs would dampen that noise As for coming from the Harley, and what a overpriced POS that was, I no longer do big rides as my poor old busted joints ache after about 1/2 an hour of riding, long cruises are so much more enjoyable now in a car, so a big bike would be pointless
