Me? I would buy something like this to start with...

...and get your Skyline later with the propellers and all the fruit.

...+ the car above won't depreciate very much.

Hi im just curious, on a 1998 NISSAN SKYLINE R34 GT .

If the turbo is taken out , would it harm the car in anyway ? , some say it would conflict with the ECU.

lol you dont want to go down that path itll cost you around 2k to 3k to make it non turbo and the same again and it still wont be a non turbo car coz it came turbo from the factory meaning you modified the engine to make it non turbo. i wanted to go down the same path as you but im buying a vl or a r31 skyline till im off my ps then buying a liner with the fruit as mentioned above

Why not buy a R34 non turbo..still a great car to learn in and they look horn, then later when your bored of it and get a power upgrade you will already have great skills driving it....that is assuming you dont wreck it in 3 years

Just dont try be a hero and drag turbo skylines cause you will most definately lose.. and dont succumb to every falcodore driver, they will all try race you..

What other monetary things do i need to consider when purchasing a used car from a private seller ?

-Cost of car

-insurance , which is like 1k for >18's

-registration , which is $100 per year ?

When viewing and test driving car what can i do to check if the car is in good standing , if u cant outsource a mechanic for inspection.

-check for no funny noises when engine running

-check for dents from hail, accidents and collusions

-check for rust on interor and exterior.

-check for easy smooth steering.

-check for engin serial and see if it matches with the history of car log.

What do i look for in the bonnet of the car?

issit imperative that i get the VIN and run it online to see full history ?

wow THANKS !!

Not sure where you live, but registration is roughly $600 a year in Vic and insurance can range from $500 to $5000 depending on the finer details...

For instance, comprehensive insurance on an R33 Skyline for me was $2500 a year, 25 years old, car locked in a garage, no speeding offences and no loss of license.

just got your p's? DONT buy a skyline. please!

for a bunch of reasons, one being most people crash and bash their first cars and we dont want more damaged ones! but also they just arent the same without a turbo or two, DO NOT even consider 'de-turboing' one either, countless stories of it costing a huge amount in time and money, oh and i dont think you'd even be able to drive a de-turboed car like that on your p's anyway..

buy an r31, learn to slide it and you'll be takumi in a turboed one....

Oh please... i don't justify speeding, drifting, or taking part in any other silly illegal offences to impress others or for self satisfaction . I just want a good looking car that has nice comfortable interior, and i happen to pick the skyline model range. I don't intend to get a turbo in the future anyways, as i said point a to b ... via c.

lol i don't even spend $30 /wk but i drive mine like once a month... maybe.. lol

your gonna get raped on insurance.. brutally

if i drove my car as a daily, for fuel i'd prob be looking at $120/wk +

Insurance - Before buying any car you should check to see what you will be paying for insurance, or if you can actually get insurance. Do a few online quotes through justcars.com, aami.com etc etc to see what you can afford.

Some friendly advice from me would be to get at least 3rd party insurance, get fully comprehensive if you can't afford to loose $10,000. Keep in mind that someone may run in to you without insurance and if you're not covered you may never get your car replaced.

Fuel - For a while I was using $100 fuel a week, that was a lot of driving, but my average is $50.

Well I have 20 minutes to kill so went through just cars quote.

Age: 20yo

Car purchase price: $10,000

Accidents/infringements/fines: 0

Comprehensive cover: Yes

Non turbo: $2000

Third party:

$400

Plus close to $2000 in excess if you do make a claim.

Just get a 4cyl honda mate...
