I see alot of pictures of RB26 intake manifolds with black coating either chipping or wearing off. Even on the timing belt covers.

Is there a reason why this happens? Heat maybe?

Any recommendations to fix that? perhaps strip, clean, and repaint it.. or just strip it all off and polish it up?

I'm a perfectionist when it comes to a clean looking engine, =P so I want to figure out what I can do with it before that starts happening. The 26 will be sitting in my garage for a while so I'm going to basically dissasemble all bolt on bits and clean them up...

Usually its from the heat and the age..etc..Best way to get it back to brand new u can strip the paint off with a specific paint remover and use some thermal paint like u use for the exhaust or engine parts and it should be right. U can Sand it down so it looks all shiney and polished depends what u like.
