I have no sympathy (except for the people who the fine was issued too incorrectly for and have been trying to get it sorted out)

This is literally the very last action the sheriff takes trying to recover the money. In some (probably most) cases the fines are older than 12 months and probably $1000 (I stand to be corrected on that though)

The sheriff sends letters of demand, comes to your house and gives you every possible chance to pay the fine......hell they even have payment plans!...this is AFTER the original supplier of the bill has tried all their possible means as well.

This is very true. If you can't afford to pay the fines immediately you can negotiate a payment plan with them, you can even get the fine and penalties reduced.

I recall a case where one of our clients had $20,000+ in outstanding fines, while he was at our office getting advice on what his options were in relation to these fines he parked in a loading zone... and received a fine. :D :D

Stand corrected then Rossco.

The Sherriff clamped my car many many years ago for... $175 fine... a fine i didn't even know about because council was too lazy to recheck my address.

Just spoke to a mate who is part of the operation at the moment. He drives one of those camry's daily but it doesnt have the camera in it.

Tell your mate to pass some feedback to the council he works for.

Feedback is:

They are a pack of money grabbing cvnts.

When you have Stonnington parking inspectors giving our fines @ 1:27am in the morning, it is a fken joke.

(fine was for parking on the nature strip, something you can do in other councils without any issue)

He is fully aware that what he has to do sometimes causes people to get sh!tty. As for minor things where adresses have been changed etc I believe that is just bad luck.

I think we are all fully aware that the council just love dishing out crud like that. That situation about parking fines at 1am is ridiculous. I feel bad for the person on the recieving end of the fine, and also for the sheriff that gets sent around to collect it after the recipient refuses to pay. Just a vicious cycle, caused by the council being unreasonable.

I was at Chaddy today and they are swarming the joint. I was down near Safeway and they had the Blue van and stack of Cars.. Also had on display a wheel and clamp. Media were also interviewing the Sheriff ppl...

If you have fines that you rightly earned by infringing the law seraphyn, i don't see why you should be allowed to evade the law to the point of a clamp being necessary. You know you have the fine. Go on a payment plan if its too hefty. you dont ignore it and go shopping.

I'll be in chaddy on the weekend...clean and fine free :P no boot for me!

Stonnington and City of Melbourne, Port Phillip are all the same. They probably bring in the highest amount of income of any Victoria municipality but they are still the greediest when it comes to traffic fines.

Parking on nature strips is technically an offence in all councils, but I don't know of many others that actually bother fining for it unless they get a complaint from residents.

Ill be in chaddy xmas shopping this weekend too kamikaze, and like you im also totally fine free.

Im not a city native, ive only been living in the city for around a year, where im from even parking in the CBD is free, so im just not one to agree with the amount of laws and rules there are in Melbourne to penalise people in regards to things as inane and un-important as parking (within reason of course). Disagree if you will, but its simply my opinion.

If i was one to have quite a bit outstanding, i would be smart and not take the offending vehicle to places where it could be detained.

It's getting too much...Australia's roads are becoming like prisons. I mean, enough is enough...you can't drive a sports car around and feel safe anymore...makes you go paranoid!

Dude, its not rocket science. Don't break the pretty (mostly)simple laws, don't get fines. Get fines, pay them(if you can't, get a payment plan), Don't pay the fines, get clamped.

cheriffs were at the pines shopping center just before. made a quick dash from home to get some money out, no seat belt on and no p's at the back lol shat myself

First Rye, now this post, I wonder what next...
