Whats Recomended For Tunning My Rb20 With Hks2535 Upgrade

Recommended Posts

I am getting everything ready for my rb20. it will be going into my 1990 240sx, i got a good deal on a new hks2535 kit, it seems like some people are just running them with stock ecu's and a fuel controller, which is what i planned on doing. After some research i am finding that some people are running tuned ecu's im just wondering what i should be doing to be making the numbers i want. i have 450 cc injectors, an apexi safc neo,and walbro255 lph fuel pump for tunning so far. i will be running a fmic and 3inch exhaust. i would like to be making between 300 hp and 350hp (220kw-265kw) to the wheels if thats possible. i just want to know what i should do to tune this and have a healthy running engine. if i need bigger injectors thats not a big deal, but they came with the engine, so i planned on using them

I know there are 2 or 3 workshops on the west coast of florida that can re-calibrate your stock rb20 ecu to suit more airflow, larger injectors, larger MAF etc. I'm shure there will be a workshop around NJ that can do a similar thing. Correctly re-calibrating your rb20 ecu will yield far better results than an add on fuel controller... not to mention a tune will lift the 180km/h speed limmiter, boost cut and lowish rev limmit.

If you can't find a workshop in the US that will re-calibrate your ecu, then send it to an experienced tuning shop in Aus, like Sam aka Dr Drift. They can lay down a non spesific tune to suit your mods, then use your fuel controller to fine tune your car on a dyno.

Your going to need a Z32 AFM (MAF in american) as your stock rb20 unit will run out of resolution around 210rwkw. I would also invest in a good fuel pressure regulator and guage. Other than that, you'll need a healthy engine, good set of plugs, good clutch and use the best oil you can afford.

Be nice to your rb20 gearbox at over 240rwkw...

AND DONT PUT A VENT TO ATMOSHERE BLOW OFF VALVE ON IT... you'll regret it.

oh yea i forgot to add i have an infiniti q45 maf, will that work? in know its close in size to thez32 maf b/c people always compare the two. i would like to tune it myself because of where i live. there is a tuning shop around, but i hear they are only good with subaru's and dsm's. i'll have to look more into what you guys have mentioned. i would probably send my ecu to austrailia because from the other RB guys around home, you austrailian's seem to have the sickest skylines. also how many bar of boost is recomended to run with this turbo. thanks for your input so far, keep the info coming!

well the other day i was on ebay and found a deal on a tuned ecu by JUNKY PANIC TUNE its set up for the 2535 turbo gtr fuel pump 550cc injectors and z32 maf so i hope this will work good. has anyone ever heard of this tune, they are out of japan, its the same seller i got the turbo kit from. i know i mentions i have the 450cc injectors but the safc should be able to correct that, but i will be keeping my eyes peeled for som 550's
